Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 21

Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 21

Here we go with the 21st week of finding ignored pitchers turned serviceable for a day. Please take note that pitching rotations are always fluid, so most of these streaming options are projected starters who aren’t set in stone. That especially holds true for games played later in the week, so be sure to double-check the official announcements as we move closer to each date. Got it? Good!

Take note that we are looking for pitchers who are owned in less than 30 percent of Yahoo leagues. Occasionally a recommendation will exceed that threshold if they are in a particularly favorable streaming situation.

Now let’s dive into the good stuff!

Monday, August 19

Dillon Peters (LAA) at Texas (7%)
Peters was originally scheduled to make two starts this week, but he’ll instead take the bump on Monday. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the matchup corresponds nicely at Texas. The Rangers rank 21st in wRC+ to left-handed pitchers with second-highest strikeout rate (26.1%). Peters has been racking up solid outings, most recently allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts across six frames at Pittsburgh. He’ll have a chance to earn a quality start and victory in this one.

Other Options: Joe Ross (WAS) at PIT (18%)

Tuesday, August 20

Michael Pineda (MIN) vs. Chicago White Sox (34%)
Pineda is back for the Twins, who activated him off the injured list to start Thursday. He looked reasonably good in his return, allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts through five innings at Texas. Another victory could be on the horizon while facing the White Sox at home. Chicago ranks 24th in wRC+ this season with the fifth-highest strikeout rate (25.6%) to boot, so this is an ideal time to scoop up Pineda.

Other Options: Andrew Heaney (LAA) at TEX (36%)

Wednesday, August 21

Aaron Civale (CLE) at New York Mets (36%)
Civale has been extremely impressive through four starts this season, allowing just four earned runs with 22 strikeouts through 24 innings. Half of those turns came on the road against the Yankees and Twins, two of the league’s most intimidating offenses. The Mets have been surging lately, but Civale is up to the task of recording another quality start.

Other Options: Mike Montgomery (KC) at BAL (13%), Adrian Houser (MIL) at STL (12%)

Thursday, August 22

Tanner Roark (OAK) vs. New York Yankees (28%)
Let me start this write-up by saying that I’m not in love with Roark against the Yankees. In fact, no streaming options jump off the screen in this abbreviated Thursday slate. If you don’t have anything to lose, you can consider Roark while crossing your fingers that he comes through with a positive fantasy performance. Hopefully the pitcher-friendly atmosphere in Oakland will give him a boost.

Other Options: Sandy Alcantara (MIA) at ATL (8%)

Friday, August 23

Vince Velasquez (PHI) at Miami (18%)
Velasquez has been all over the place this season, but he’s coming off a solid start (5.1 IP, 3 ER, 5 K, W) against the Padres last Friday. He’s scheduled to face a Miami team that ranks dead last in wRC+ on the year. Making matters even better, the game will be played in pitcher-friendly Marlins Park, which could hide some of Velasquez’s mistakes.

Other Options: Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) at PIT (23%)

Saturday, August 24

Martin Perez (MIN) vs. Detroit (28%)
Perez has allowed a 5.35 ERA since the start of June, but his start at Milwaukee last week (6 IP, 0 ER, 3 K) has my attention for streaming purposes. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that he’s facing a terrible Detroit offense that ranks 29th in wRC+ and ties the Padres for the “honor” of baseball’s highest strikeout rate (26.0%) in baseball. I’m not expecting a pretty performance, but this is a spot where Perez can provide a serviceable line and give your fantasy squad a victory.

Other Options: Merrill Kelly (ARI) at MIL (21%), Alex Wood (CIN) at PIT (38%)

Sunday, August 25

Brett Anderson (OAK) vs. San Francisco (27%)
San Francisco’s offense has shown hope lately, but it still ranks 26th in wRC+ this season. Throw in Oakland’s pitcher-friendly environment, and Anderson can come away with a quality start. Although the A’s southpaw won’t rack up strikeouts, this is an intriguing matchup to consider if your fantasy team needs help late in the week.

Other Options: Jason Vargas (PHI) at MIA (23%)
