Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 22

Here we go with the 22nd week of finding ignored pitchers turned serviceable for a day. Please take note that pitching rotations are always fluid, so most of these streaming options are projected starters who aren’t set in stone. That especially holds true for games played later in the week, so be sure to double-check the official announcements as we move closer to each date. Got it? Good!

Take note that we are looking for pitchers who are owned in less than 30 percent of Yahoo leagues. Occasionally a recommendation will exceed that threshold if they are in a particularly favorable streaming situation.

Now let’s dive into the good stuff!

Monday, August 26

Dustin May (LAD) at San Diego (29%)
May had a bad experience out of the bullpen last week, allowing four earned runs across two innings at Atlanta. He’ll return to the starting rotation for Monday’s tilt at San Diego, and the rookie looked good over his past two starts (vs. STL, at MIA) while yielding two earned runs with 12 strikeouts through 11.1 innings. The Padres rank 19th in wRC+ with the second-highest strikeout rate in baseball (26.0%). The pitcher-friendly Petco Park certainly helps May’s cause as well.

Other Options: Gio Gonzalez (MIL) vs. STL (15%), Alex Young (ARI) at SF (25%)

Tuesday, August 27

Adrian Houser (MIL) vs. St. Louis (33%)
Houser’s ownership rate went from 12% to 33% this week, and I’m expecting it to climb more as we get closer to Tuesday’s start. The Milwaukee righty is starting to round into form, allowing three earned runs with 20 strikeouts through 18.1 innings over his past three starts. One of those came against the same Cardinals team he’ll see in this spot, and Houser pinned down the Red Birds for one earned run and six strikeouts in 5.1 innings last Wednesday. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a repeat performance.

Other Options: Andrew Heaney (LAA) vs. TEX (51%), Michael Pineda (MIN) at CWS (46%)

Wednesday, August 28

Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) at Miami (24%)
DeSclafani is no stranger to this column, as he usually holds his own in favorable matchups while getting thrashed in the tougher draws. Streamers will be happy to know that he has one of the best matchups in all of baseball this week, facing a historically bad Miami offense that is tied for last in wRC+ this season. Sure, the Marlins have had a few run-scoring outbursts over the past week or so, but their talent level still lags behind the rest of the league. DeSclafani is a quality streaming option in this one.

Other Options: Tanner Roark (OAK) at KC (30%), Aaron Civale (CLE) at DET (45%)

Thursday, August 29

Alex Wood (CIN) at Miami (36%)
People got excited when Wood made his 2019 debut in late-July. That enthusiasm waned alongside his ownership rate after a slow start. However, Wood is looking at a bounce-back opportunity against that aforementioned shoddy Miami offense. The pitcher-friendly environment of Marlins Park feeds Wood’s upside even more.

Other Options: Zach Plesac (CLE) at DET (46%), Jordan Yamamoto (MIA) vs. CIN

Friday, August 30

Anibal Sanchez (WAS) vs. Miami (39%)
How about we keep the theme going against Miami? After all, I’m a huge proponent of taking the path of least resistance, and the Marlins represent one of the worst hitting teams in baseball. Sanchez should step in as a sizable home favorite while carrying momentum from his last start (8.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 6 Ks) at Friday against the Cubs. He should be able to easily handle the Marlins.

Other Options: Tony Gonsolin (LAD) at ARI (15%), Logan Webb (SF) vs. SD (28%)

Saturday, August 31

Joe Ross (WAS) vs. Miami (25%)
Four in a row! I want to take this time to apologize to Marlins fans; rebuilding can be a painful process, but hopefully things get better in the coming years. As for now, we’ll keep picking on Miami with Ross, who returned from a comebacker earlier this week for a shaky outing (4.1 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 4 BB) Saturday.

Other Options: Martin Perez (MIN) at DET (36%)

Sunday, September 1

Dustin May (LAD) at Arizona (29%)
Let’s finish this article where we started, as May checks all the boxes as a viable streamer with two potential starts next week. Of course, this turn at Arizona isn’t a given, as Monday’s performance will likely dictate whether he stays in the rotation. Go ahead and snag May for his next start at San Diego on Monday, and scan the news feed to see if he comes back for a double-dip at Arizona.

Other Options: Michael Pineda (MIN) at DET (46%), Eric Lauer (SD) at SF (10%)
