FantasyDraft MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (8/2)

FantasyDraft, the only site offering 100% rake-free contests, allows for a lot more freedom when it comes to MLB lineup construction. Two pitchers, three infielders, three outfielders, and two utility players makes building your lineups a lot of fun.

Get ready for another rake-free night of MLB DFS action on Friday’s 12-game main slate. I’m taking a different approach with this slate by prioritizing hitting over pitching with so many good spots for bats, including a game at Coors Field. Pitching will be a crapshoot tonight, so, fill out your hitting with your favorite mid- to high-priced bats and then take whichever mid-priced pitchers fit your build.

As always, be sure to pay close attention to the lineups when they are released and monitor the weather leading up to game time. For reference throughout the season, be sure to bookmark our overview of MLB Park Factors and how to Use Weather to Your Advantage in MLB DFS.

Hitters

David Dahl (OF – COL): $9,700 vs. SF
I’m even flipping around the sections from the typical format to list the hitters first to drive my point home to prioritize bats on this slate. If we are loading up on hitters, then we will certainly want plenty of exposure to the game at Coors between the Rockies and Giants. Dahl is my top hitter recommendation for the Rockies. He has been swinging a hot bat as he currently rides a nine-game hitting streak. Dahl has a .388 wOBA and .241 ISO at home versus righties and will face Giants righty Shaun Anderson who has given up a .354 wOBA and 1.59 HR/9 to lefties in his rookie campaign.

Bryce Harper (OF – PHI): $8,600 vs. CWS
Harper hasn’t had a great season at the plate, but he has been at his best when playing in front of the home crowd as he will on Friday night against the White Sox. Harper has posted a .365 wOBA and .255 ISO at home versus righties this season and has had success against righty Ivan Nova going 6-for-13 with two doubles and two homers during his career.

Cavan Biggio (IF – TOR): $8,100 @ BAL
The Blue Jays put up 11 runs against the Orioles on Thursday and should continue to pound Orioles’ pitching on Friday night with righty Aaron Brooks on the hill. Brooks has allowed five runs in each of his last two starts, and left-handed hitters have put up a .350 wOBA and 2.20 HR/9 off him this season. Biggio had a pair of hits last night and has posted a .341 wOBA and .236 ISO versus righties this year.

Brandon Belt (IF/OF – SF): $7,600 @ COL
The Giants side of the game at Coors Field may actually be the more attractive option as some of the Giants bats are underpriced for the positive game environment. Belt offers position flexibility and has mashed righties on the road this season with a .386 wOBA and .241 ISO. He’ll face the Rockies young right-hander Peter Lambert, who as you would expect has struggled pitching at home including a .433 wOBA allowed to lefties. Double down on cheap Giants with the newly acquired Scooter Gennett, assuming he makes his Giants debut on Friday night.

Pitchers

James Paxton (NYY): $16,700 vs. BOS
I know Paxton just got shelled by the Red Sox for seven runs, including four homers, in four innings during his last start. However, the strikeouts were there with nine, and he didn’t walk a batter. Paxton has pitched better at home in Yankee Stadium than on the road this season, and he has shown his upside in an early-season meeting at home against the Red Sox when he threw eight shutout innings with 12 punch outs. Paxton’s floor is high enough for me to roster him at his depressed salary in hopes of him reaching his upside despite the matchup.

Steven Matz (NYM): $15,600 @ PIT
While I am banking on Paxton reversing his fortunes from his last start, I’m looking for Matz to duplicate his performance. In his last start, he twirled a complete-game shutout of the Pirates while recording seven strikeouts. He’ll get the Pirates again on Friday night, this time in Pittsburgh. While I don’t expect another complete game shutout, he should continue to silence the Pirates’ bats as they have struggled against lefties over the last 30 days with a league-low .267 wOBA and a 64 wRC+ (29th). My next favorite option from the list below is actually Alex Wood, who scores very well in my model despite a matchup against the Braves that you typically wouldn’t think to attack.
