I am all about upside, especially once we get past the first few rounds. With that being said, there is still value in safe wide receivers. At the very least, knowing who they are is beneficial because while it is important to chase upside, there are plenty of instances throughout the season where you know you just need a few points from a wide receiver on a given week. It is nice to have one plug-and-play guy on your bench that you can start in a pinch. Let’s take a look at some wide receivers with high floors.

*Note: Obviously players like Davante Adams and DeAndre Hopkins have high floors. The focus here is on later-round guys.

Jarvis Landry (CLE): ADP WR27, Overall 62
With the arrival of Odell Beckham, people are forgetting about Jarvis Landry. I know Landry isn’t flashy or explosive, but he gets the job done. Landry scored double-digit fantasy points in 12 out of 16 games in 2018. Beckham’s presence may lower Landry’s ceiling, but Baker Mayfield’s expected step forward should keep Landry’s floor nice and high. The Browns are going to throw a ton and every pass is not going to Beckham.

Larry Fitzgerald (ARI): ADP WR40, Overall 98
Don’t forget about old man Fitz. Larry Fitzgerald may be pushing 50, but as the primary slot receiver in a quick-strike, air-raid offense, Fitz is poised to gobble up receptions underneath. He ran 64.3% of his routes from the slot and saw 112 targets total on the league’s worst offense. Kyler Murray should easily attempt over 100 more passes than Josh Rosen & Co. did in 2018. Fitz’s 23.6% target share could amount to over 140 targets this season.

Emmanuel Sanders (DEN): ADP WR41, Overall 103
This is all contingent upon Sanders actually being healthy. He sure looked it during his brief preseason appearance. Prior to tearing his Achilles last season, Sanders scored double-digit fantasy points all but one game (where he scored nine). He was remarkably consistent from that perspective. While Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton have emerged as legitimate threats, Sanders is still the clear WR1 and top option in the Broncos’ passing game. His age and unfathomably quick return from his Achilles tear have people worried and rightfully so. That makes Sanders cheap and affordable. He is a great guy to have on your bench.

Keke Coutee (HOU): ADP WR49, Overall 132
This one is contingent upon Coutee’s health. He’s been nursing an ankle injury for about a month. It was described as minor, but there have been no updates. Obviously, Coutee’s health must factor into your draft approach, but when he is healthy, he has proven to have a very high floor, albeit in a limited sample size. After returning from injury in Week 4 last season, Coutee made his NFL debut and immediately saw 15 targets. He only played in four full games but reached double-digit fantasy points in three of them. He also hit double digits in the Texans’ lone playoff game. He may not be ready Week 1, but whenever he returns, his target share is secure in a good offense with a top-10 quarterback.
