It’s opening weekend! That means it’s the time of year where everyone who thinks that they know what NFL coaches are thinking will embarrass themselves. If you played full slate, I hope you weren’t in on the Geronimo Allison or Anthony Miller hype trains. But let’s not get distracted licking our wounds. This year, I’ll be covering the top-five players in projected ownership at every position, and you can access the full list here. Ready? Let’s go!

Quarterback
Player | Matchup | Salary | Ownership % |
Carson Wentz | vs. WAS | $5,700 | 25.6% |
Jacoby Brissett | at LAC | $4,400 | 22.3% |
Kirk Cousins | vs. ATL | $5,500 | 7.2% |
Kyler Murray | vs. DET | $5,600 | 7.0% |
Lamar Jackson | at MIA | $6,000 | 6.7% |
Together, these five quarterbacks make up over half of this week’s starters. Carson Wentz’ QB13 price, his revamped receiving corps, and matchup against the unproven Redskins secondary are all big draws for the quarterback. That said, I would fade Wentz this week. The Redskins will struggle with Case Keenum behind center since Jordan Reed, Chris Thompson, and Paul Richardson are his only receiving options with much NFL experience. Although the Redskins have six wide receivers on their roster, without Richardson, the group boasts only nine receptions between them. This game won’t be close, and Wentz shouldn’t need to pass the ball that often. I’d also pass on Kirk Cousins against a now-healthy Falcons defense in Kevin Stefanski’s run-first offense and on Kyler Murray’s rookie debut. I’d roll the dice with a bargain-bin Jacoby Brissett while you have a chance. Lamar Jackson rounds out the top five, and he’s squared up against a defense that cannot defend the run. His $6,000 price tag might be a lot, but rushing yards do count for more points than passing yards.
