FanDuel NFL GPP Lineup Advice: Week 3 (2019)

FanDuel NFL GPP Lineup Advice: Week 3 (2019)

The NFL season is cruising along as we enter Week 3 already. This week it is time to get a little bit freaky with our stacks in GPPs including an unconventional “bring it back with” option. It is also a good time to zig when the rest of the DFS community zags as everybody thinks they have the NFL figured out after two weeks of action. There are also plenty of potential low-owned value options worth taking a flyer at running back and wide receiver.

So, with that let’s stack’em up for Week 3.

Stacking Options

Jameis Winston (QB – TB): $7,300 / Mike Evans (WR – TB): $7,100 / O.J. Howard (TE – TB): $5,800
Oh, what to do with Jameis Winston who is in another good spot this week at home against the Giants? While it is tempting to play him in cash game lineups, hopefully, we all learned from Week 1 that is probably not a wise move. So instead, I’ll get me exposure in GPPs as a stack with a pair of his pass-catchers.

The Giants pass defense ranks 31st Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) according to FootballOutsiders after two weeks while allowing 329 passing yards and 2.5 touchdown passes per game. Chris Godwin has done most of the damage so far this season, which means it is a perfect time to pivot to Mike Evans and O.J. Howard at reduced salaries.

Bear with me on the “bring it back with” player by using the Giants defense against my stack. Winston has been very turnover prone during his career and has three interceptions including two returned for touchdowns this year. Quick scores by the Giants defense or special teams will, in turn, result in Winston and the Buccaneers offense needing to put up more points. It is an unorthodox game stack but could pay dividends with just one defensive score.

Bring it back with: Giants D/ST: $3,700

Matthew Stafford (QB – DET): $6,900 / Marvin Jones (WR – DET): $5,400
The Lions passing game had been clicking in the first two weeks averaging 315 yards and 2.5 scores through the air. Next up for Stafford and the Lions is an Eagles defense that has been shredded up by opposing passers for 350 yards and three touchdowns per game. In a matchup with one of the higher Vegas totals and the Lions expected to play from behind, Stafford should continue to chuck the ball at least 30 times. Which receiver to pair him with can be up for debate. Kenny Golladay seems like the obvious option but that means it is the perfect time to pivot to his running mate, Marvin Jones. Jones always has a couple of big games every season and does present a solid floor of about five catches for 50 yards with the upside for more in this matchup.

Bring it back with: Zack Ertz (PHI): $6,900

Marlon Mack (RB – IND): $7,000 / DEF Indianapolis Colts: $3,600
Pay close attention to the injury status of Marlon Mack before jumping in on this stack. Assuming Mack gets in practice on Friday and plays on Sunday, expect him to be a lower-owned option despite a solid matchup and potentially positive game script. With the Colts playing at home as a small favorite, they will look to lean on the running game against the Falcons who have allowed 107 rushing yards and one score per game to running backs this season. Mack has averaged 22.5 carries through the first two games of the season. On the other side of the ball, the Falcons have turned it over three times in each game while allowing 2.5 sacks per game while the Colts come in with a cheap price tag.

Low-Owned Stud

JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR – PIT): $7,500
Smith-Schuster seems to have a lot of negativity surrounding him heading into this week. He has underwhelmed as the Steelers number one wideout with Antonio Brown out of town. Then this past week he lost his starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger which promotes Mason Rudolph into the starting lineup who has an instant connection with another Steelers wide receiver James Washington who Rudolph played with in college. See, even you don’t want to play Smith-Schuster now. While the Rudolph to Washington connection could have some big games this season, this is a week to pivot away from that connection and focus on Smith-Schuster who should see reduced ownership but has more skill, will get more targets, and a better individual matchup working out of the slot than Washington has on the outside.
