DraftKings NFL Value Plays: Week 8 (2019)

DraftKings NFL Value Plays: Week 8 (2019)

Welcome to Week 8 of the NFL season. We only have two teams (Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens) on bye this week. Each team has important fantasy players, but none that should affect the quality of the slate this week.

Each week, I will provide a recap of the prior week’s picks. The cheaper the player, the higher the value you are hoping to get. The ultimate goal is to get three-to-four times the price of each player. The higher the value, the better the play.

Quarterback: Jacoby Brissett– 31.64 points (5.65x), Gardner Minshew II – 21 points (3.89x)
Running Back: Kerryon Johnson – 2.3 points (0.45x), Josh Jacobs – 19.4 points (3.88x)
Wide Receiver: T.Y. Hilton – 19.4 points (3.29x), Cole Beasley – 10.6 points (2.26x)
Tight End: Hunter Henry – 15.7 points (3.93x)

The Brissett to Hilton stack paid off well as Hilton had 74 yards and found the end zone. Even though the Oakland Raiders fell behind to the Green Bay Packers, they continued to feed Jacobs the ball, which made him a great play. Kerryon Johnson’s efficiency continued to struggle even before he got injured which resulted in him being placed on IR. Hunter Henry was clearly too cheap last week for his usage and that showed in his results.

The goal of this article is to provide daily fantasy football advice for DraftKings value plays. Implementing a few value plays in your lineups allows for the opportunity to play the top-tier studs. The key with a value play is to find a player with a high floor that also has the opportunity for a breakout game. These value plays will be for DraftKings’ main slate each Sunday. Non-tight ends under $6K and tight ends under $4.5K will be considered value plays.

Quarterback

Ryan Tannehill (TEN): $5,100 vs. TB
In Tannehill’s first start of the season, he provided a much-needed spark to the Tennessee Titans. I’m surprised it took the Titans this long to figure out he is better than Marcus Mariota. He ended up with 23.2 DraftKings points, which would pay off his salary this week. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are allowing over 300 passing yards per game and have turned into one of the biggest pass funnel defenses in the NFL. It may be tough for Derrick Henry to get going this week, but it should be no problem for Ryan Tannehill.

Derek Carr (OAK): $5,000 @ HOU
Going up against the 25th ranked pass defense, Carr might be set up for his best performance of the year. Likely trailing for most of the game, he will be forced to throw more than usual. Deshaun Watson and the Houston offense will have no issues moving the ball forcing Carr to make plays to keep them in the game. Even with limited receiving options outside of breakout tight end Darren Waller, Carr should put up solid numbers this week.

Running Back

Devonta Freeman (ATL): $5,500 vs. SEA
Looking at Freeman’s game log can be deceiving since he was ejected early last week for throwing a punch at Aaron Donald. Prior to last week, he had reached double-digit DraftKings points in four straight games. Being rather inefficient in the running game, Freeman has been making up for it in the passing game. The Atlanta Falcons traded Mohamed Sanu to the New England Patriots this week, which could provide Freeman with a few extra targets out of the backfield going forward. If Alvin Kamara is ruled out this week, Latavius Murray ($5,800) is a near lock at this price and would be recommended for all lineups over Devonta Freeman.

Ty Johnson (DET): $4,900 vs. NYG
DraftKings has done a great job of pricing backup running backs recently. Historically, we would get backups in the $3,000 range, but that is not the case anymore. After Kerryon Johnson left the game last week, Ty had 10 carries and four receptions. Not the best of stats, but Minnesota’s defense is very good. Ty Johnson will be Detroit’s main runner and obviously has the ability to catch a few passes as well. In a plus matchup against the New York Giants’ defense, Ty Johnson makes for a great play this week.

Wide Receiver

Kenny Stills (HOU): $4,700 vs. OAK
I love the Houston Texans this week. A home matchup against a defense that doesn’t put a lot of pressure on the quarterback sets Deshaun Watson up for a huge performance. Aaron Rodgers threw for over 400 yards and five touchdowns against this same defense. Stills will have added opportunities since Will Fuller V left last week’s contest after the first drive. He ended up with four catches for 105 yards. Have full confidence in Kenny Stills.

Corey Davis (TEN): $4,400 vs. TB
Ryan Tannehill has brought Corey Davis back to fantasy relevance. He reached double-digit DraftKings points once with Marcus Mariota over the first six weeks, but he scored 20 DK points last week with Tannehill. Davis saw seven targets, a season-high. As I mentioned with Ryan Tannehill above, Tampa Bay’s defense is susceptible to the pass.

Tight End

Dallas Goedert (PHI): $2,800 @ BUF
Goedert is not safe enough for cash games this week, but he will provide a ton of salary relief for your tournament teams. After battling injuries early, he has had at least four catches in each of the past two games along with a touchdown last week. Rarely do we have a player under $3,000 that has the upside to score at least 15 DK points, but Goedert is that guy this week.
