FanDuel NCAAF Lineup Advice: Week 9

FanDuel NCAAF Lineup Advice: Week 9

We are just through the halfway point of the college football season and decided it’s time to take a look at some NCAAF DFS options at FanDuel! If it is news to you that college is even offered as a fantasy option then this could be just what you have been looking for. College offers an extra level of excitement compared to the NFL as you regularly see outrageous scores and performances from college players. It’s not unusual for a quarterback like Jalen Hurts from the Sooners to cross the 40-point mark in fantasy and RBs like Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard are currently averaging around 35 PPG based on FanDuel’s scoring format. You also use the super flex roster spot standard on FanDuel’s platform.

Following college fantasy is a great way to get an early look at guys who will become fantasy-relevant in the NFL one day and is something that the most experienced dynasty and devy fantasy football crowd has been following for a while. There are some great sites out there that offer stats and coverage of college prospects like The Draft Network and The Dynasty Draft Room. You can find endless stats at College Sports Reference, the CFB version of NFL GOAT Pro Football Reference. I’ll also be looking a lot at college football odds to help choose players from sites like BettingPros.

For this article, we are going to build a lineup on FanDuel’s Saturday main slate and take a look at a few players you may want to consider incorporating in some aspect into lineups of your own this weekend. The prize pools aren’t quite as big in CFB, but you can win upwards of $5,000 for first place in FanDuel’s Wishbone contest that only requires a $9 buy-in. Let’s dive in!

Quarterback

Joe Burrow (LSU) vs. Auburn: $10,400
It’s hard to pass up on Jalen Hurts as your locked-in QB each week, but getting Joe Burrow at a discount isn’t a bad deal. Burrow is priced as the QB3 this week though his 34.14 average PPG on FanDuel ranks him as the QB2 this season. Burrow has been one of the most impressive and efficient QBs in college this season with a 29-3 TD:INT ratio. His TDs are tied with Washington State’s Anthony Gordon for most in the nation.

Burrow is coming off his lowest fantasy performance of the season last week scoring 27.98 points against Mississippi State but still threw for 327 yards and four TDs in the contest. This week, Burrow is set up for a great SEC rivalry game against sixth-ranked Auburn. This is LSU’s third matchup this season against a top-10 team and so far their other two matchups against top-10 teams resulted in shootouts (45-38 at Texas, 42-28 vs. Florida) and both were wins for LSU who currently sit at 7-0 on the season. Burrow looks locked in for his sixth 300-yard performance of the season and has a solid stacking partner we will get to in the WR section.

Also Consider:

Justin Fields (OSU): $10,300 vs. Wisconsin
Bryce Perkins (UVA): $9,200 at Louisville
Max Duggan (TCU): $7,500 vs. Texas

Running Back

AJ Dillon (BC) at Clemson: $8,800
Dillon has been one of the most impressive running backs in NCAA this season and is second in the nation behind Hubbard with 968 rushing yards over seven games. He is coming off his best performance of the season last week where he put up 223 yards and three TDs on 34 carries against NC State, good for 40.3 points on FanDuel.

This week, Dillon has a tough test against Clemson’s stout defense that has allowed an average of just 111.9 rushing yards per game. Dillon has been virtually unstoppable this season and shouldn’t be too affected by the matchup and Clemson did just allow Louisville redshirt freshman Javian Hawkins to go for 129 yards and a TD last week, albeit some of that production came against second-stringers for Clemson. I’ll take the big discount on a legitimate RB1 in Dillon this week who is priced as the RB10 this week but ranks as the RB3 with an average of 23.18 PPG on the season. He’s good enough to beat a bad matchup.

Lyn-J Dixon (CLEM) vs. Boston College: $6,400
Bear with me on this pick because things get a little risky with my RB2 selection, but adding Lyn-J Dixon into your lineups here saves a lot of cash and helps you round out the rest of your lineups with some really solid talent. Dixon hasn’t done much the last few weeks but has scored at least 13 points three times this season and is in a good spot as the change of pace back for Clemson to see some decent usage later in the game this week where the Tigers are 34-point favorites.

Dixon caught my eye last season as he ran for 547 yards on just 62 carries (8.8 YPA) and found the end zone five times as a freshman running as the third and even fourth back on the team. He has continued his efficiency this season, though not at the prolific level we saw from him as a freshman. He offers some cheap big-play ability at this price point. If you can squeeze 15 points out of him at this price, I would call that a win.

Also Consider:

Najee Harris (BAMA): $9,500 vs. Arkansas
Kennedy Brooks (OU): $8,200 at Kansas State
Cam’Ron Harris (MIA): $6,500 at Pittsburgh

Wide Receiver

Justin Jefferson (LSU) vs. Auburn: $9,400
My stacking partner to Joe Burrow this week is none other than his top wideout, Justin Jefferson. Jefferson currently leads LSU with 48 catches and 759 yards and is tied with fellow wideout Ja’Marr Chase with nine TDs. It has been a toss-up between Jefferson and Chase this season who is going to have the bigger game which is represented by the fact that they’re only separated by $100 this week on FanDuel. Jefferson has consistently been the more reliable WR of the two with at least 87 yards or a TD in every game this season whereas Chase has seen a floor of just 21 yards and a TD in a game.

As mentioned in the write up for Burrow, this should be a highly competitive game here with both teams needing to push the ball all day. Auburn has also given up some big games to wideouts on ranked teams this season as Florida WR Freddie Swain put up 6-146-1 against them, Texas A&M WR Jhamon Ausbon managed 8-111, and Oregon WR Johnny Johnson III put up 7-98. In his two contests against top 10 ranked teams this season, Jefferson put up lines of 9-163-3 against Texas and 10-123-1 against Florida. With most people likely honing in on the big names like CeeDee Lamb and Jerry Jeudy, Jefferson remains a solid option. You’re paying top dollar for a WR1 as Jefferson is priced as the WR3 this week but his 23.17 PPG ranking as WR2 makes him worth the fair price.

Darrell Stewart Jr. (MSU) vs. Penn State: $8,600
Darrell Stewart Jr. has been the victim of some rough QB play this season but has still managed to shine. As noted in FanDuel’s news post, “Stewart has seen at least 10 targets in every game and caught no fewer than five catches and 56 yards in a game.” He is far and away the team’s leading receiver with 683 yards and four TDs this season. The next best option on offense has just 333 yards. This offense is funneled through Stewart and that is the kind of dependability I love when looking for WR2s. Stewart isn’t just a safe volume play, though. He has shown a big-game ceiling like his 10-185-1 line against WMU that was good for 30.18 points on FanDuel.

Penn State is coming into this game with a 7-0 record, but are only 6.5 point favorites at the moment. You cannot run on them and most teams haven’t really tried as Penn State has had a big lead often. Still, they have allowed just 2.1 YPA on the ground which ranks best of all NCAAF teams and also average just 76.7 rushing yards allowed per game. They do give up 228.3 passing yards per game, however. They’ve also allowed decent production to some WRs on non-ranked teams like Pittsburgh WR Taysir Mack who managed a 12-125 line and Buffalo WR Antonio Nunn put up 5-113. Game flow should work in Stewart’s favor this week and he presents great value averaging 16.38 PPG this season.

Tarique Milton (ISU) vs. Oklahoma State: $7,300
A WR2/3 type I am targeting this week is Iowa State’s Tarique Milton. At WR3 in college, I don’t mind going after someone who offers a bit of boom/bust appeal. Milton gives you just that as he is averaging 22.2 YPR this season which as Alex Halsted has noted on Twitter is on pace to match Hakeem Butler’s school record of 22 YPR.

Milton started the season off hot with two big games going for 8-144-1 against Iowa and following that up with a 3-142-1 performance against ULM. He had been rather quiet after that before coming back strong last week with a 4-98 line against Texas Tech. Next up, Milton has a matchup against an Oklahoma State team who has dropped three of their last four games and ranks 103rd out of 130 in the nation allowing 275.7 passing yards per game. They allowed 45 points to both Baylor and Texas Tech in their last two games. Baylor tore them up with big plays as WR Josh Fleeks put up 3-126-1 (42 YPR) and Tyquan Thornton put up 2-96 (48 YPR). They also gave up 22 YPR to RB JaMycal Hasty in that game who had three catches for 66 yards. You can beat them deep and that is just what Milton does.

The over/under for this game is set at 63.5 right now which ranks as the sixth-highest O/U total of the week when looking at college football odds and sets this up for a high-scoring affair with Iowa State listed as 10.5 point favorites. All the pieces are there for Milton to have a great game making him a solid WR2/3 option.

Super Flex

Ian Book (ND) at Michigan: $9,000
The super flex option makes for a high variance factor in CFB lineups at FanDuel and just like in the NFL, you want to roll with a QB here pretty much every time. A player I have keyed in on for a decent value at your QB/SF spot is Notre Dame signal-caller, Ian Book. Book is priced just outside the top 10 QBs this week at QB12 even though his 24.26 average PPG on FanDuel ranks him as QB9 on the season. It’s a small value but one I will take in my SF spot.

Book is coming off a somewhat disappointing game as a passer last week as he put up just 165 yards and one TD vs. USC. Luckily, he added an additional 49 yards rushing and a rush TD to boost his fantasy performance to a respectable 21.5 points. Book has rushed for over 40 yards with a rushing TD in half his games this season but has also offered a high ceiling as a passer at times with five passing TDs in a game twice. His best performance came against UNM where he had 360 passing yards and five TDs with 46 rushing yards and an additional rushing TD.

Book gets a road date against Michigan up next this week who have actually been fairly tough against the pass allowing just 163.5 yards per game. They did give up three TDs to Penn State QB Sean Clifford last week, though, and 260 scoreless yards to Iowa QB Nathan Stanley, so they aren’t invincible. This is basically a pick’em when it comes to betting with just a one-point spread, and an over/under total of 51 points make this an attractive game for fantasy purposes.
