FanDuel NFL GPP Lineup Advice: Week 8 (2019)

FanDuel NFL GPP Lineup Advice: Week 8 (2019)

There are a lot of good upside options to consider stacking and as one-off plays on the 12-game NFL Fanduel slate on Sunday. There are five games on the slate with a Vegas total over 48 points which is more than we have seen in recent weeks. This will help spread out ownership percentages, so that we can go with some good, fairly obvious, stacks that might still have a little less ownership than they probably should. Also, watch for a bonus stack hidden in the GPP fliers section of this week’s write up.

So, with that let’s stack’em up for Week 8.

Stacking Options

QB Matthew Stafford (DET): $7,700 / WR Kenny Golladay (DET): $6,700
It was a Lions stack of Stafford and Marvin Jones that was one of the top combinations last week. It is time to go right back to the Lions passing game again this week playing at home against the Giants. The Giants pass defense that ranks 28th Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) according to FootballOutsiders and has allowed 8.92 yards per attempt (31st) this season. The loss of running back Kerryon Johnson to injury could also shift a little bit more of the offensive game plan to the passing game. Stafford has excelled at home this season averaging 300 passing yards and three touchdowns per game in three games. Pair him with Golladay this week, who has had at least eight looks in every game this season, except last week. He’ll face a very beatable Giants secondary that has allowed an average of 13.1 receptions (21st) for 189 receiving yards (27th) and 1.1 touchdowns per game (23rd) to wide receivers this year. Golladay also has the eighth-most air yards in the league this season, so there is plenty of big-play potential. Bring it back with Saquon Barkley who is another week removed from his injury and has a great matchup against a weak Lions run defense.

Bring it back with: Saquon Barkley (NYG): $8,600

QB Derek Carr (OAK): $6,900 / WR Tyrell Williams (OAK): $5,900
The more popular way to stack the Raiders/Texans matchup will be to use Deshaun Watson with one or more of his wide receivers and bringing it back with Darren Waller for the Raiders. So, I’m going to pivot off the chalk stack to a lower-owned option that still gets pieces of a matchup with great fantasy appeal. The Raiders might be forced to pass more often than usual this week with running back Josh Jacobs is out or limited and if they fall behind early to the Texans. The Texans have allowed an average of 295 passing yards and 2.1 touchdown passes per game this year. While stacking Carr with Waller is more than acceptable, I’ll look to get the less popular Tyrell Williams who is expected to get back on the field this week. On the Texans side, bring it back with Kenny Stills who big-play potential will see increased targets with Will Fuller out.

Bring it back with: Kenny Stills (HOU): $5,700

RB Todd Gurley (LAR): $7,400 / DEF Rams (LAR): $5,000
In theory, Gurley should have a lot of ownership go his way this week playing as a big favorite against the dreadful Bengals run defense. However, I think he will get less attention than he should as DFS players and analysts talk themselves out of playing him due to his recent injury history and potential workload concerns if the game becomes a blowout. I’m not one of those analysts who is going to talk you out of playing him as he has seen at least 14 carries in five out of six games played this season and the Rams will be without their primary backup and goal-line vulture Malcolm Brown this week. Couple that volume of carries and goal-line opportunity with a superior matchup against the Bengals who have allowed 128 rushing yards (31st) and 1.0 rushing touchdowns (24th) per game to running backs this season. Pair up Gurley with the high-priced Rams defense which should get after the Bengals offense which has allowed 3.4 sacks and 2.2 turnovers per game.

Low-Owned Stud

Le’Veon Bell (RB – NYJ): $7,000
I’m not sure why but it doesn’t seem like Le’Veon Bell is getting much attention this week. Maybe it is because of a lack of faith in the Jets offense after they were dismantled by the Patriots defense on Monday night or the bias that people think the Jaguars still have a good defense. Whatever the reason, Bell will come in lower owned than he should for a back that gets the kind of volume of touches he gets in what is a very favorable matchup. He will face a Jaguars run defense that ranks 32nd DVOA and just lost one of their best run stuffers, Marcell Dareus, to injury. The Jets might also shift to a more run-heavy game plan this week to protect Sam Darnold. By the way, it will be an epic fail by the Jaguars fans this week if they don’t all dress up as ghosts.
