Week 6 Swap Meet: 5 of the Most Traded Players This Week (2019 Fantasy Football)

Week 6 Swap Meet: 5 of the Most Traded Players This Week (2019 Fantasy Football)

In what looked to be a waste of time, the New York Giants and New England Patriots kicked off Week 6 with a game that was surprisingly competitive. It was a strange way to start off what is expected to be an interesting week already. Besides the Thursday game, we have the rare must-lose game between the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins, where anything could happen. Whether it finishes with a score in the 50’s or as a 0-0 tie, nothing from that game would be a surprise.

To add to this chaos, this will also be the first week of the season with four teams on bye, with the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and Oakland Raiders off. This could lead to headaches when setting your lineups, causing an increase in trades to make things work.

These are five of the most-traded players from this week. If you do find yourself involved in trades with these players in them, I will give you a few names of relatively equal value that you can consider or at least gauge the player’s value off of. All values given take half-point PPR scoring into consideration.

Le’Veon Bell (RB – NYJ)
Bell’s start to the season has disappointed fantasy owners. He is only the RB14 in fantasy points per game, with only players who have played four or more games considered. It struggles come from the talent surrounding him, which is pretty terrible. The offensive line is bad, and defenses have not needed to respect the passing game, with Luke Falk at QB. With Sam Darnold back, it will open up running lanes a little bit and put the offense in more positions to score.

To add to the optimism surrounding Bell that could make him a buy-low candidate for owners in a position to take on this risk, his workload is out of control. He is on track for 392 touches, which comes to 24.5 per game. When the offense around him improves, the value of each touch improves with it. The Jets’ upcoming schedule also gets easier, with a stretch of Miami, Giants, Washington, Oakland, Cincinnati, and Miami coming up. Whether you’re looking to win now or you want to buy low on Bell, these are three names that can be included in trades as similar value.

  • Leonard Fournette: A big workload and high efficiency have propelled Fournette into the top 10 of RBs this season. He finally found the end zone last week, and there should be many more trips to the end zone this season.
  • Mike Evans: There may not be a more frustrating receiver in fantasy this season. Ranking as WR12 on the year, he only has had two weeks that have been worth starting him. He was held without a catch last week, but also has a three-touchdown performance this year. We have seen both the ceiling and floor within a month.
  • Tyreek Hill: Hill was injured in Week 1, but is close to making his return from a shoulder injury. His ceiling is that of a WR1, so he is a terrific player worth trading for, if possible.

Phillip Lindsay (RB – DEN)
Lindsay has put together two good weeks in his last three games, which has elevated him to RB13 on the season. He is outplaying fellow Broncos RB Royce Freeman, which has allowed him to get more touches. However, there’s a chance that this will not be the case every week, and the Broncos have been clear that they will ride the hot hand during the game.

Still, Lindsay is the more talented back of the two, possessing a shiftiness that Freeman doesn’t have. He’s also a more skilled receiver out of the backfield. These factors should keep him in the RB2 conversation for the rest of the season, but the possibility of inconsistency has caused owners to try and sell high recently, which is understandable. Here are three players that are being valued similarly to Lindsay right now.

  • Devonta Freeman: It has been a struggle running the football for Freeman. His production through the air is the only thing keeping him relevant right now, so it’s a good thing he does that well.
  • Courtland Sutton; A fellow teammate of Lindsay, Sutton is quietly having an incredible season. Ranking as WR9, he has been Joe Flacco’s favorite target, and it doesn’t look like that will change any time soon.
  • Darren Waller: The athletic TE has been a big part of the Oakland offense. Ranking as TE6 on the season, this is no fluke, and he will continue to see a high percentage of targets as a mismatch for defenses.

Odell Beckham Jr. (WR – CLE)
The season has not started the way Browns fans thought it would. The same can be said for owners of Odell Beckham Jr., as he ranks only as WR35 through five games. Averaging 8.6 targets per game, getting looks from Baker Mayfield is not the issue. He simply isn’t able to convert these targets into catches, whether it be inaccuracy or drops from his end.

Now, OBJ was known for starting seasons slow with the Giants, but that doesn’t really feel like the issue here. Instead, it’s a combination of QB play and a lack of chemistry between the first-year teammates. As the Browns schedule lightens up, this offense will begin to click and find more confidence in what they do. So while OBJ has been frustrating, he is a strong buy-low candidate for fantasy owners in the position to take on a player that is clearly struggling. Here are the names of three other players that are valued similarly and have also caused headaches to their owners.

  • Mike Evans: He has been incredibly frustrating and inconsistent, despite ranking as WR12. A frustrated owner of either Evans or OBJ may be looking to sell right now.
  • Todd Gurley: Gurley’s production has picked up recently, but he still hasn’t looked like himself and only ranks as RB14. The increased production has also led to missed practices, with him already questionable this week despite the extra days of rest.
  • Kerryon Johnson: Having already served his bye week, Johnson ranks as RB24 on the season. He started the season slow, but his last outing saw Johnson exploding on the ground, essentially matching his first three games in one day. Johnson will hopefully build upon that after his bye.

JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR – PIT)
While JuJu has not been as bad as OBJ, he possibly has caused more headaches and stress for fantasy owners. He will be on his third QB of the season this week after the injury to Mason Rudolph against the Ravens. It’s yet to be seen if it will have a negative impact on JuJu, but it’s just another variable added to what already has been a disappointing start to the season.

JuJu has failed to hit 100 yards in a game this season, but he was able to hit this mark in half of his games last year. Some of this has been due to being the top receiving option on his team. It is also affected by worse QB play and a more ineffective offense overall, with the running game really struggling. Still, JuJu has been consistent, totaling 75+ yards in four of his five games. The concerns are that he has seen only three receptions in two of the games, and he has found the end zone just twice.

Once a QB is able to establish himself in this offense and get comfortable, the stats for JuJu should begin to pick up. But if you’re unable to wait for that to happen, here are three similarly-valued players that are producing well right now.

  • D.J. Chark: The name value isn’t there with Chark, but there is no doubting his production this season. Through five weeks, he has been WR5, scoring a total of five touchdowns. While he is likely to regress a little bit, he should hang around the same value as JuJu going forward.
  • Josh Jacobs: The rookie ranks as RB11 through five games, and he has been involved in the passing game a little more over the past two weeks. As long as he stays healthy, he is a terrific option for the rest of the season.
  • Zach Ertz: After finally scoring a touchdown last week, Ertz ranks as TE7 on the season. He has yet to put up a big performance, but his consistency has been solid, proving how high his floor is.

Will Dissly (TE – SEA)
The TE from Seattle has been one of the best pickups of the fantasy season. Dissly ranks as TE5 through five weeks, putting up double-digit fantasy points in each of the past four games. This high level of play, combined with consistency, is a luxury at the TE position. On an offense that lacks pass catchers, Dissly has emerged as one of Russell Wilson’s favorite receivers after originally being brought in as a blocking TE.

Now, if he is so good, then why is he being traded? There are a couple of reasons. First, some people are looking to sell while his value is high, but he should be a top-10 TE for the rest of the season. The other big reason is that Dissly was almost definitely picked up off waivers in your league, meaning someone could already have an established top TE option and Dissly on their bench, so the TE-needy teams are looking to make trades.

The following names carry similar values to Dissly, which should show you how much weight name-value actually holds. Dissly is not the biggest name out there, but he soon will be.

  • Aaron Rodgers: Starting the season as QB19, no Rodgers owners are happy. However, some of this has been because the running game is working, and he does not need to pass in the red zone. Another part is his schedule up to this point: Chicago, Minnesota, Denver, Philadelphia, Dallas.
  • David Montgomery: Montgomery ranks only as RB27, but there is no doubting his talent. He breaks tackles nearly every time he touches the football, and he is now getting a solid workload. The issue for Montgomery has been touchdowns, or rather the lack of them. Of his 78 touches, he has scored just twice.
  • A.J. Green: Green has begun practicing this week, which means there his a legitimate chance he makes his season debut next week. We all know of the upside that Green brings, but his health concerns recently are holding him back from being a top-tier wideout.
