FanDuel NCAAF Lineup Advice: Week 14

FanDuel NCAAF Lineup Advice: Week 14

It’s the final week of regular-season play for college football before we start getting into conference championships. It’s also a big rivalry week which will feature some players you will definitely want to target in games that will likely get heated. We also have a lot of teams still trying to fight for seeding in the CFB Playoffs so there’s a lot going on!

For this article, we will be building a lineup and featuring players to consider in the Saturday main slate “CFB Wishbone” contest at FanDuel. This is their biggest money contest for CFB where a $9 buy-in could win you $7,000 for first place. For this contest, you build a team with a total salary allowance of $60k for a seven-player lineup ($8,571 per player). Your lineup must consist of QB (1), RB (2), WR/TE (3), and a Super FLEX (QB/RB/WR/TE). The Super FLEX you basically want to utilize as you would in NFL where a QB is essentially a lock there.

For player selections, I will be looking at a few sites heavily for their stats such as Expand the Boxscore who offers some of the best in-depth player data you’ll find for CFB, Team Rankings who also offers endless team stats, CFB Sports Reference (the CFB version of Pro-Football-Reference), and we will be looking a lot at betting odds and expected totals over at Betting Pros. Let’s dive into some Week 14 action!

Quarterback

Brock Purdy (ISU): $10,300 at Kansas State
I feel like every time I feature a QB not named Jalen Hurts I have to give the obligatory “he’s the best fantasy QB in CFB” disclaimer, but at $12,000 it’s not always easy paying up for him. This week I am stacking a few ISU players because I like their matchup against Kansas State and first up is QB Brock Purdy. Purdy is the fourth-highest priced QB this week but ranks third with 28.88 PPG on FanDuel just behind Hurts and Joe Burrow. He’s coming off a five total TD performance against Kansas where he threw for over 350 yards for the fourth time in his last five games.

Kansas State has been just average against the pass this season but they gave up 334 yards and two TDs to Texas Tech QB Jett Duffey last week and let West Virginia QB Jarret Doege throw for three TDs in the game before that. Purdy’s tear should continue and with the Cyclones averaging a robust 36.3 PPG this season, he should pay off at this price.

Also Consider:

  • Justin Herbert (ORE): $9,200 vs Oregon State
  • Skylar Thompson (KSU): $8,400 vs. ISU

Running Back

Chuba Hubbard (OKST): $10,500 vs. Oklahoma
If I am fading Hurts this week, then you have to at least go with Chuba Hubbard in your lineup as your high-priced difference-maker. Hubbard has been a beast this season as he comfortably leads the nation with 1,832 rushing yards while ranking second with 20 rushing TDs. That’s 147 yards more than the next-best, Jonathan Taylor. In PPR scoring formats, Hubbard ranks as the fourth-highest scoring player this season in fantasy as well. He’s averaging 32.08 PPG on FanDuel and has only scored under 20 fantasy points once, but just barely as he notched 19.7 points against ISU.

This week, Hubbard gets a date against rival Oklahoma who has given up 148.4 rushing yards per game this season. They’ve been known to be more stingy against the pass this season which could easily set Hubbard up for another high-volume, high-performance game. Oklahoma has seen some soft rushing offenses the last two weeks but got tagged for 143 yards from scrimmage by ISU RB Breece Hall before that, which leads me to my default RB2.

Breece Hall (ISU): $8,800 at Kansas State
I feel like a broken record with Hall, but he is again priced under the $9k mark this week and has done nothing but impress since taking over lead back duties for ISU. He’s managed over 100 yards from scrimmage in six straight games and has been well utilized both on the ground and through the passing game. His last performance was against Kansas where he had 97 yards rushing with one TD on the ground and two catches for 40 yards and another TD, good for 26.7 fantasy points. His ceiling this season so far has been near 40 points.

Kansas State also just ranks middle of the pack against the run this season having allowed 162.9 rushing yards per game. Iowa State are currently 4.5 point favorites in this game which should set Hall up nicely for another big outing.

Also Consider:

  • Kennedy Brooks (OU): $7,600 at Oklahoma State

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Johnny Johnson III (WR – ORE): $7,400 vs. Oregon State
Another rivalry game we’ll target this week takes place in the Pacific Northwest where Oregon State will host Oregon and a wideout I like in this game is Johnny Johnson III. Johnson is coming off a monster game where he put up career highs with 10 catches for 207 yards and two TDs against ASU last week. That came on the heels of a 4-89-1 line against Arizona just the week before as well.

The matchup is great this week against Oregon State who ranks top 10 in most passing yards allowed this season with 302.8 YPG allowed. They’re coming off a huge shootout that saw them lose 53-54 against Washington State. Anthony Gordon put up insane numbers in that game throwing for 606 yards with six TDs and three INTs. The Ducks should be salivating at the potential scoring opportunity here as 19-point favorites and the fact that you can get the team’s leading receiver this cheap feels like a steal.

La’Michael Pettway (WR – ISU): $7,200 at Kansas State
The last ISU player I am featuring this week will be a bargain stack partner to Brock Purdy, and that’s WR La’Michael Pettway. A big part of the attraction with this pick is the fact that the team’s leading receiver, Deshaunte Jones, had to leave last week’s game with a shoulder injury and is questionable for this week. If he misses time, that would set Pettway up as the leading man in a potent offense. With Jones out last week, Pettway showed up big with six catches for 96 yards and two TDs. He also managed eight catches for 100 yards in the game before that, so it’s not all about the injury here either.

With Purdy throwing over 350 yards regularly and the Wildcats just an average opponent, Pettway could find himself in the endzone again easily this week with another solid yardage output as well.

Brant Kuithe (TE – UTAH): $6,800 vs Colorado
This is the first time this season I have officially featured a tight end in CFB and I feel pretty comfortable about it. Maybe it has to do with the fact that Kuithe helped me win in my season-long league last week to push me into the championship game. He had four catches for 81 yards last week but was also given two carries near the goal line which he converted both into two rushing TDs. In the game before that, he had five catches for 132 yards and one TD as well. He’s scored over 20 points in back-to-back weeks as one of Utah’s best receiving options and now gets a plush matchup against Colorado who rank inside the top 10 for most passing yards allowed at 299.5 yards per game. Kuithe is a cheap buy I will gladly slide into my WR3 slot this week.

Also Consider:

  • Jerry Jeudy (ALA): $8,800 at Auburn
  • Dazz Newsome (UNC): $8,300 at North Carolina State
  • Trevon Grimes (UF): $6,800 vs. Florida State

Super FLEX

Kyle Trask (QB – UF): $8,800 vs. Florida State
With $9k remaining in our salary allotment I am tempted to take LSU WR Justin Jefferson, but I have a hard time not rolling with a QB here. That’s especially true when you can get a hot hand in Kyle Trask just under Jefferson’s price point. Trask is coming off a solid game where he threw for 282 yards with two TDs but has shown us a higher potential ceiling recently when he threw for 363 yards with three TDs and added a rushing TD to boot the week prior against Vanderbilt. An outcome like that could be more likely again this week against Florida State who has allowed 274.2 passing yards per game this season.
