FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday 11/14

It’s a fun eight-game slate this evening in the NHL. Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon will duel it out in Edmonton. San Jose travels to Anaheim, which is always fun. The Rangers will look to keep some momentum going in a tough test at Tampa Bay. Let’s take a look at some DFS options for tonight.

Center

Connor McDavid (EDM): $8,800 vs. COL
I know it’s chalky. Hopefully, if you’ve read this article before, you know that I don’t usually go for the top choice players. Everyone knows what Connor McDavid is capable of on any given evening. I simply can’t lay off of him tonight. The Avalanche have lost both Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz to injury. Vegas has taken this game off of the board due to the uncertainty Colorado has in goal. I expect a lot of goals to be scored in this showdown between McDavid and MacKinnon, which I expect will ultimately be the Hart trophy conversation in April.

Wing

Martin Necas (CAR): $3,600 at BUF
Hurricanes fans must be happy with what they’ve seen from Necas so far this season. Their highly regarded prospect has chipped in for 12 points in 18 games despite playing on the third line and averaging 14 minutes a night.  He has six points in his previous six games. The Hurricanes will travel to Buffalo to take on a Sabres team that has lost five straight and is returning from a weekend in Sweden. Look for Necas to stay hot tonight.

Matt Calvert (COL): $3,900 at EDM
Colorado has been decimated by injuries, but it has created a nice opportunity for Matt Calvert, who finds himself skating with Nathan MacKinnon in the top group. Calvert has four points in his previous three games, and in his last game skating alongside MacKinnon, he tallied two points, four shots, and three blocks. He’s riding shotgun again tonight, so I think this is a fair price to pay.

Joonas Donskoi (COL): $4,900 at EDM
Since I’m paying up for Connor McDavid, I wanted a piece (or two) of Nathan MacKinnon as well. Joonas Donskoi rounds out the makeshift top group in Colorado along with MacKinnon and Calvert. He has six points in his previous three games. Unlike Calvert, in addition to skating on the top group, he is slated on the top power-play unit as well. Two of his last three games have been massive, and I expect him to make it three of four as they visit Edmonton tonight.

Defense

Keith Yandle (FLA): $5,600 vs. WPG
After starting slow, Keith Yandle is red hot again. He tallied a three-point night on Tuesday, and he has nine points in his last seven games. He’s going to play over 20 minutes tonight and continue to quarterback the top power-play unit, which is seventh in the league in efficiency. This game features an over-under goal total of 6.5, the highest available on the board. Expect goals to be scored, and expect Yandle to be involved.

Goalie

Jacob Markstrom (VAN): $7,400 vs. DAL
Usually, on a night like tonight, I would recommend using Andrei Vasilevskiy. The Lightning are a massive home favorite to the Rangers, by far the biggest choice in the sportsbooks.  However, the price is appropriately adjusted for that, as Tampa is just returning from Sweden, and the Rangers have played well of late. I’m going to turn to Jacob Markstrom here instead. He is yet to be the confirmed starter, but should it be Thatcher Demko, I would use him as well. The Canucks had hit the skids for a bit, but they bounced back nicely against Nashville on Tuesday. Dallas is on the backside of a back-to-back, having played in Calgary last night. This game features the lowest over-under goal total available this evening at 5.5 with the under juiced at -135.
