Quarterback & Tight End Streamers: Week 13 (2019 Fantasy Football)

Quarterback & Tight End Streamers: Week 13 (2019 Fantasy Football)

Week 12 was a big letdown offensively. Eight out of 13 games played before Monday night’s affair failed to reach a combined total of 40 points. So if your team did not seem to get a lot of points, you will most likely notice many others didn’t either. Despite the lack of offense, my quarterback streamers from last week fared well. Sam Darnold, my alternate steamer, registered the third-most fantasy points. He was just behind Ryan Tannehill, of all people. My top streaming recommendation, Jacoby Brissett, was a solid QB16 even though he only registered around 12 fantasy points. Even QB13 Jeff Driskel, who put up a measly 9 points, finished ahead of Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, and Matt Ryan. My tight ends were serviceable but not magnificent. Jacob Hollister had a quiet evening, which seemed to be consistent with the entire Seahawks’ offense not named Rashaad Penny. Penny is only 18% owned, and I would be surprised if any of his owners actually started him. Ryan Griffin, who happened to cash in on a contract extension just days before his game, managed to get in the end zone to save his day. Dallas Goedert continued to roll. He had seven receptions but for a meager amount of yardage and no touchdowns. His teammate, Zach Ertz, led all tight ends. Even though Griffin and Goedert did not have stellar weeks, Griffin was TE7 on the week, while Goedert was TE10. So despite a quiet week all around, my recommendations were solid.

Now it’s the crunch time. It’s the make-0r-break week. You are fighting to make the playoffs. Every point seems to count more this week than any other. Which players are less than 40% owned that you can trust the most to keep your season alive? Ryan Griffin, Jacoby Brissett, and Jacob Hollister are no longer streaming options due to their increased ownership. The picking is slimmer than ever, but here’s my list of the best of the rest.

Quarterback Streamer of the Week

Sam Darnold (NYJ) at Cincinnati Bengals
It’s now the time of the season not to get too cute. You need to win and get points. Sam Darnold is the type of quarterback who seems to work in streaks. He tends to have a few games in a row that’ll make you wonder if he is really a first-round caliber prospect. Then he seems to put all the pieces together and redeem himself. He’s on a hot streak, and I don’t see it waning this week. He plays Cincinnati, who has been much better in their past two games. They only allowed 17 points to Oakland two weeks ago, and this past week, they limited the Steelers to 16 points. However, I remain optimistic. Darnold was able to tear apart Oakland in Week 12. Oakland also is in an offensive rut, scoring only three points. Pittsburgh was limited because of quarterback play. Darnold is better than Derek Carr, Mike Glennon, Mason Rudolph, and Devlin Hodges combined. The Cincinnati defense was porous before the past two weeks, allowing over 23 points per game. I think Darnold and the Jets will continue to roll.

Alternate Quarterback Streamer

Ryan Tannehill (TEN) at Indianapolis Colts
The only reason I don’t have Ryan Tannehill as my streamer of the week is the matchup. He’s been great in most of his games this season since taking over from Marcus Mariota. However, I still think that the trip-up game is due. Even if it isn’t this week, I do believe his ceiling is lower than Darnold’s. Indianapolis is in the hunt with the Titans, so look for this game to be more defensively-minded with teams trying not to make too many glaring mistakes to give their opposition the advantage. I still think Tanny is a good streaming option this week, but I expect more of a conservative amount of points as they continue to rely on Derrick Henry and the impressive running game.

Dark Horse Quarterback Sleeper:

Kyle Allen (CAR) vs. Washington Redskins
I really don’t know what to make of Kyle Allen. Lately, he has been all over the map, and his results have not been matchup-dependent. He played well against the Titans and Packers, two decent defenses. Then he was abysmal against the Falcons, who have been dominated for the most part this year. Last week against the New Orleans Saints, one of the better defenses, Allen put up solid fantasy numbers. Carolina will not make the playoffs, but Allen is playing for his future. This week he is against the Redskins. They have been erratic themselves on defense. Allen has the potential to light it up as much as he has the potential to self-destruct. I am hoping for neither — just a pretty average game that will be enough to keep your team alive.

Tight End Streamer of the Week

Dallas Goedert (PHI) at Miami Dolphins
Right now, we are looking for consistency. Despite Zach Ertz’s rejuvenation of late, Dallas Goedert has not disappeared. In fact, Goedert has not had fewer than four targets in his past six games. He has failed to reach 32 yards only once in those games. On that occasion, he only had 22 yards but scored a touchdown. In fact, in the past six contests, Goedert is averaging a touchdown in every other game. His ceiling might be capped by Ertz, but his floor is safe. He is the tight end left on waivers most likely to get you double-digit fantasy points. And that’s what you need to keep your season alive. He’s also against the Miami Dolphins this week, so Goedert looks like the player to add to your roster and plug into your lineup and not look back. It’s not the time to overthink it.

Alternate Tight End Streamer

Mike Gesicki (MIA) vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Despite the tough matchup this week, Mike Gesicki has been relatively consistent. In fact, since Miami’s fifth-week bye, Gesicki has averaged 5.6 targets, 3.6 receptions, and 39 yards a game. That might not seem prolific, but it does average out to over seven points per game. In his past three games, Gesicki has not had fewer than six targets. He even scored the first touchdown of his NFL career last week against the Browns. Maybe this is a sign of better things to come for the über-athletic tight end. If Fitzmagic continues to call the plays, expect some more of the same from Gesicki.

Dark Horse Tight End Sleeper

Noah Fant (DEN) vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Remember when many thought the Los Angeles Chargers would be a Super Bowl contending team with an elite defense? That seems like a long time ago. Noah Fant has had a pretty disappointing rookie campaign in many respects. He’s a first-round rookie that was only averaging 36 yards receiving per game heading into Week 12. In Week 12, despite seeing five targets, he only caught three of them for 14 yards. Believe it or not, he had the third-most receiving yards on the Broncos. I believe that Fant has been better than statistics suggest. He has had two below-average quarterbacks (Joe Flacco and Brandon Allen) throwing him the ball. He’s outperformed former teammate T.J. Hockenson, who was drafted before him. In fact, he’s the best rookie tight end of 2019. Not bad considering it is a position that usually takes time to develop. He has had no fewer than four targets since Week 7, and in the week he had only four targets, Fant had over 100 yards and a touchdown. His floor is low, but there is at least a floor. If he can force a missed tackle, Fant has proven that he can run it to the house. If you can’t get Goedert and have been burned by Gesicki in the past, you might want to consider Fant. The Chargers are a team in disarray, and Fant is only getting better.
