We asked our writers to name their top waiver-wire targets at running back and wide receiver for the week. Here’s what they said.

Who’s your top running back pickup of the week?

Derrius Guice (WAS)
Derrius Guice is designated to return from the injured reserve and should be back for Sunday’s Week 11 matchup against the Jets. Adrian Peterson continues to lead the Redskins’ backfield, but once Guice returns, the split between the two running backs could be 60/40. The Redskins want to see what they have in Guice and will ease him back into action. The former second-round pick has all the physical tools to be the team’s feature back. Guice’s main problem is that he hasn’t been able to stay healthy in his first two seasons. He has a lot of upside and is worth stashing if you have the roster space. I would rather take a chance on Guice than Kalen Ballage, who may have the Dolphins’ backfield to himself, but has produced little with the opportunity. With the Redskins in rebuilding mode, the team will give Guice every opportunity to showcase his talent.

There is not a lot at running back available this week, and Guice is on bye, so he is not going to help you in Week 10. He is on track to return Week 11, and Washington has a great matchup against the New York Jets at home. If you are looking to have a jump on Guice, you could pick him up now and hope that you have an RB3 in Week 11 on a team that is going to be playing young players to close out a lost season. If you need to add a running back for this week, you could roll the dice on Miami Dolphins running back Kalen Ballage being able to make the most of his starting job with the suspension of Mark Walton. If you want to play the matchup game, Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards could be in play this week. The Bengals allow the second-most points to fantasy running backs, and he could see some garbage time running the ball in the second half of a lopsided game. He does not have the same appeal, though, for the rest of the season that Guice or Ballage offer as weekly starters. Both are worthwhile adds depending on what you need, but I like Guice to have the most fantasy value the rest of the way.

Gus Edwards (BAL)
There aren’t really any running backs with low ownership who are worth spending for this week. One upside play worth stashing is Gus Edwards. Baltimore currently has one of the most dynamic offenses in the league, and an injury to Mark Ingram would catapult Edwards into solid RB2 territory. Alexander Mattison is another great stash, but I’d lean toward Edwards because he has a shot to return some flex value this week in Cincinnati.

Kalen Ballage (MIA)
I say this with the caveat that the upside here is low, and there is a compelling argument to be made that potential league-winning handcuffs like Reggie Bonnafon, Alexander Mattison, Darrell Henderson, and Tony Pollard are better roster stashes. However, none of those players have a clear path to playing time right now, and Ballage becomes the lead back in Miami with news of Mark Walton’s suspension. Admittedly, it’s debatable how much value any rusher in Miami truly has, but Ballage should get all the carries he can handle and was already receiving goal-line work to boot. During bye weeks, the key is often having depth that will play enough snaps to contribute while your starters are resting. For running backs, opportunity is king, and Ballage should get more of it than the rest, including Derrius Guice, who still has Adrian Peterson in the mix. Miami’s upcoming four-game schedule is not kind (Indianapolis, Buffalo, Cleveland, Philadelphia), but the favorable Week 12 rushing matchup with Cleveland could lead to enough positive results to help you survive a bye week crunch.

Who’s your top wide receiver pickup of the week?

Zach Pascal (IND)
Pascal caught five balls for 76 yards and a score despite Jacoby Brissett going down and Brian Hoyer taking over against the Steelers. Parris Campbell fractured his hand, and T.Y. Hilton continues to battle an injury as well, making Pascal the de facto top-receiver in Indianapolis. Already becoming a reliable WR3, Pascal could have low-end WR2 value moving forward with the uptick in looks and target share. He already has four scores on the year and three games with over 70 yards receiving, and that was with more competition for targets. The upcoming schedule (Miami, Jacksonville, Houston, Tennessee, Tampa Bay) makes him a perfect acquisition for those in need at wide receiver.

With T.Y. Hilton expected to miss at least three weeks, Zach Pascal will take over as the Colts’ number one wide receiver. He recorded five receptions on six targets for 76 yards and a touchdown in Week 9 against the Steelers. Pascal led the team in targets, receptions, and yards Week 9. He also showed a rapport with both Jacoby Brissett (knee) and Brian Hoyer. In the next few weeks, the Colts have plus matchups when they face Miami, Jacksonville, and Houston. Pascal will be the number one target for the Colts with Hilton sidelined and is a must-add in all league formats.

Devante Parker (MIA)
Devante Parker is the top season-long add for me. Parker has had at least 50 yards and/or a touchdown in six consecutive games and should see more looks with Preston Williams out for the year. Yes, Parker plays for the Dolphins, but it’s not as if Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn’t produced elite fantasy receivers in the past. I’ll take Parker over Zach Pascal due to his rest-of-season role and the fact that in Weeks 13 through 16 he faces the Eagles, Jets, Giants, and Bengals. However, if you’re in dire need for short-term reinforcements, go for Pascal.

It was very unfortunate to see wide receiver Preston Williams have his best game of the season last week only to tear his ACL and be lost for the year. Williams was one of the good stories in what has been a lost season for the Dolphins. That news could be good for Parker’s fantasy value. He no longer has to split targets with Williams, and he could see his targets increase to double-digits on a team that is often playing from behind. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been an improvement for this team’s passing game, and if he can keep up his improved play in the second half of the season, Parker could end up being a volume-based WR3 with upside.
