Early Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 16 (2019 Fantasy Football)

Early Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 16 (2019 Fantasy Football)

What a week! We’re down to the nitty-gritty now guys, and for many of you, the fantasy finals are coming up in Week 16. For those playing at any time over the next two weeks, you’re likely reading because you’re still alive in your matchups. For that, I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations after what has been a crazy and unpredictable 2019 fantasy season. Well done! There are plenty of great options available, and this week’s pickups include a Minnesota stud’s replacement, a new No. 1 option in Tampa Bay’s receiving corps, and an unlikely hero in Philly’s banged-up group of pass-catchers.

Each Sunday night during the season, I’ll be bringing you early waiver wire suggestions to help you get a jump on the competition! Thanks for joining me as we hit the wire with players who can help you out for Week 16 and beyond. Best of luck in your playoff matchups! Now let’s get to it!

Note: All players have less than 30% ownership in Yahoo leagues.

Wide Receiver

Breshad Perriman (TB): 8% owned
I featured him in this article last week, and if you were bold enough to pick him up and plug him into your lineup, you were rewarded with one of the best wideout scores of the week. Perriman balled out for 113 yards and three scores while picking up the slack left behind by Mike Evans. Chris Godwin made an early exit Sunday with an apparent hamstring injury, leaving even more targets available in Tampa Bay’s receiving corps moving forward. As the de facto No. 1 option for the gun-slinging Jameis Winston, Perriman is sure to be a highly popular add this week, so grab him if you can. The next two weeks present favorable matchups for the Tampa Bay receiver, and he could prove to be a league-winner.

Next two weeks: HOU, ATL

Greg Ward (PHI): 1% owned
Ward was masterful on Sunday, as he caught the game-winning touchdown against Washington with just under 30 seconds remaining in the game. He finished the afternoon with a healthy 7/61/1 line on nine targets, and he was the only wide receiver to catch a pass (seriously) on the day. Alshon Jeffery hit the IR, and Nelson Agholor has been dealing with a knee injury, freeing up plenty of looks for Ward. A practice squad member just weeks ago, he’ll look to build on this impressive showing in Week 16 against the Cowboys.

Next two weeks: DAL, @NYG

Anthony Miller (CHI): 26% owned
Miller is another guy that will look familiar from last week’s article, but he still (somehow) remains under 30% owned in Yahoo leagues. He’s settled in as a primary weapon for Mitch Trubisky, producing some quality stat lines over the last three weeks. At just 26% owned, Miller is likely hanging around on your waiver wire and can be plugged into lineups next week against a vulnerable Chiefs secondary.

Next two weeks: KC, @MIN

Running Back

Mike Boone (MIN): 1% owned
Dalvin Cook left Sunday’s game after re-aggravating his shoulder, and he didn’t return. With Alexander Mattison (ankle) banged up as well, it was the Mike Boone show against the Chargers, as he racked up an impressive 13/56/2 rushing line on the afternoon. With neither of Cook or Mattison a lock to suit up for Week 16, Boone is a must-add ahead of a prime matchup with Green Bay. If you’ve been holding onto your FAAB, now’s the time to drop some coin on the hottest pickup of the week.

Next two weeks: GB, CHI

Quarterback

Mitch Trubisky (CHI): 23% owned
Yes, it’s the fantasy playoffs for many in Week 16, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Trubisky’s 2019 season has been a rollercoaster, but prior to this week’s dud against Green Bay, he had strung together three-straight huge performances. In fact, from Weeks 12-14, Trubisky trailed only Lamar Jackson in total fantasy points at quarterback. He faces a generous Kansas City defense in Week 16 and has a potential divisional shootout in Week 17. It’s tough to find a signal-caller with so much upside this late in the season, despite his many deficiencies. If you need help at the position, you could do a lot worse.

Next two weeks: KC, @MIN

Gardner Minshew (JAC): 15% owned
Minshew was a fantasy stud to start the season, finishing as the QB12 from Weeks 1-8. Now that he’s back under center as the starting quarterback, he’s in a good position to have a big game in Week 16 against an underwhelming Falcons secondary. If you’re looking for help at quarterback, Minshew Mania is making a late-season surge, and it’s time to jump back on the bandwagon.

Next two weeks: @ATL, IND

Tight End

Jonnu Smith (TEN): 13% owned
Smith hasn’t seen a ton of looks this season, but he’s certainly made the most of his limited opportunities. He’s scored or gone for 100 total yards in his last two games, and the Titans offense is rolling late in the year. Smith is hyper-athletic with plenty of big-play ability, and the upside is undeniable in Weeks 16 and 17 against New Orleans and Houston — two exploitable matchups.

Next two weeks: NO, @HOU

D/ST

Denver Broncos: 23% owned
This Broncos unit has been an up-and-down squad all season long, but they’ve been playing solid football as of late and remain owned in less than a quarter of Yahoo leagues. A matchup at Mile High against a struggling David Blough sets up Denver for plenty of success in Week 16, making this D/ST a great streaming option.
