FanDuel NFL GPP Lineup Advice: Week 17 (2019)

FanDuel NFL GPP Lineup Advice: Week 17 (2019)

While building a GPP lineup is always like telling a story of how you expect game scripts to play out, Week 17 is the ultimate test of storytelling. There is a wide variety of stories that could be told this week, including teams resting players, teams fighting for the playoffs, players trying to reach milestones, and teams just playing out the season without anything at stake. There are a few storylines to consider below, but in Week 17, there are plenty of stories to tell.

So, what is your story for Week 17?

Stacking Options

Matt Ryan (QB – ATL): $7,800 / Julio Jones (WR – ATL): $8,500
My first story is about two teams who have high-flying passing offenses that face off in a game without consequences for either team — except for piling up stats. Matt Ryan has thrown for over 300 yards in three of his last four games, while also tossing multiple touchdowns in three of his last four. Both should occur again on Sunday against a Buccaneers defense that is stout against the run but has allowed 286 passing yards (30th) and 1.9 touchdown passes (25th) per game this season. Pair Ryan with his top wideout Julio Jones who has been peppered with 35 targets over the last two weeks, which have resulted in 23 receptions for 300 yards and two scores. Bring it back with Breshad Perriman, who has turned into the top Bucs receiver with back-to-back 100-yard efforts without Mike Evans and now Chris Godwin.

Bring it back with: Breshad Perriman (WR – TB): $7,600

Patrick Mahomes (QB – KC): $8,600 / Tyreek Hill (WR – KC): $8,200
I expect the Chiefs’ story for Week 17 to be one of redemption, in which they get their passing game on track for the playoffs against an inconsistent Chargers team. Mahomes has thrown for two touchdown passes in back-to-back games, and he might have to keep his foot on the gas in this one with Philip Rivers on the other side of the field, potentially playing his last game as a Charger. After not catching a ball in the previous meeting with the Chargers, it could only take a couple of long balls for Tyreek Hill to provide elite production in a redemption spot. Bring it back with the Chargers’ best big-play option, Mike Williams, who has also scored in two of the last three games.

Bring it back with: Mike Williams (WR – LAC): $6,300

Derrick Henry (RB – TEN): $8,800 / Titans D/ST: $3,800
The story for the Titans is to ride the back of Derrick Henry straight into the playoffs. After missing last week, Henry will return in Week 17 in a “win-and-in” game for the Titans against the Texans who likely won’t have anything to play for when the game starts. We all know what Henry has done down the stretch the last couple of seasons, including a four-game stretch this year with at least 100 rushing yards in each game — and a whopping seven touchdowns. A game with 100-plus yards and at least one score seems likely, and we could get a little bit of suppressed ownership with some concerns about his hamstring after he missed last week’s game. Pair him with the Titans defense, which could be facing the Texans’ second-stringers.

Nick Chubb (RB – CLE): $7,900
Nick Chubb’s story heading into the last game of the season is to pile up enough rushing yards to secure the NFL rushing title. With Christian McCaffrey and the aforementioned Derrick Henry chasing him, the Browns should be feeding Chubb to build up an insurmountable lead. Chubb has the right matchup to make it happen against the Bengals, as they rank 28th Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) against the run according to FootballOutsiders. They’re also giving up 115 rushing yards (26th) per game to running backs over the last five weeks.
