Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 13 (2019)

Welcome to the dreaded injury report. Professional football is a violent game, and your fantasy players are going to miss time because of it. Hopefully, you don’t have many names on this list.

Amari Cooper (WR – DAL)
Back on Thanksgiving, Amari Cooper took a shot to his knee and missed a few snaps. He underwent precautionary tests and will be good to go for Thursday night’s matchup with the Bears.

Jeff Driskel (QB – DET)
The Lions’ backup quarterback popped up on the injury report with a hamstring issue early in the week. He was active purely in an emergency capacity, but it’s clear he couldn’t have played even if needed as he was placed on IR over the weekend. The Lions signed Kyle Sloter, who will backup David Blough next week. Matthew Stafford is not going to play again this season. Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones both were just fine with Blough under center, but he’s still a downgrade from Driskel.

T.J. Hockenson (TE – DET)
One of, if not the last play of the Lions’ loss to the Bears, T.J. Hockenson suffered a knee injury and was spotted on crutches after the game. He is not going to play again this season. With the Lions down to their third-string quarterback, it’s hard to like anyone on this passing game not named Kenny Golladay.

Zach Ertz (TE – PHI)
Despite not appearing on last week’s injury report, Zach Ertz apparently strained his hamstring at some point earlier this season. He only got in one limited practice and looked like he wasn’t going to play against the Dolphins. He was able to talk his way onto the field but was clearly hindered. He did not play his full complement of snaps. Hopefully, a week’s worth of rest gets him back at full health. Dallas Goedert is an elite TE1 if Ertz is out.

Baker Mayfield (QB – CLE)
Just before halftime, Baker Mayfield’s follow-through connected with the helmet of a defender. He got X-rays on his right hand during the break and played the entire second half. Mayfield is fine.

Greg Olsen (TE – CAR)
Late in the Panthers’ embarrassing loss to the Redskins, Greg Olsen took a shot to the head that knocked him unconscious. The defender was promptly ejected. Olsen obviously suffered a concussion and will go through the protocol. If he cannot get cleared, Ian Thomas will start at tight end and is on the streaming radar.

Kalen Ballage (RB – MIA)
To be clear, I never root for or cheer injuries. So the fact that Kalen Ballage getting hurt was a boon for Miami’s offense is just the reality of the situation — not something to get excited about. The worst running back in NFL history sustained a knee injury that looks serious enough to end his season. It would not surprise me if Ballage played his last down in the NFL on Sunday. Patrick Laird and Myles Gaskin formed an uninspiring committee following Ballage’s exit. If you’re interested in a Dolphins’ running back, Laird is the guy you want.

Trey Quinn (WR – WAS)
The Redskins’ slot receiver suffered a concussion on Sunday. He will go through the protocol. He is not fantasy relevant.

Darrel Williams (RB – KC)
It was a simple outside run when Darrel Williams suddenly pulled up lame with an obvious hamstring strain. It would be shocking if he played next week. With Damien Williams still nursing his injured ribs, LeSean McCoy and Darwin Thompson will form a committee. Both are worth rostering.

Chester Rogers (WR – IND)
Rogers suffered a knee injury and didn’t return to the game against the Titans. Even with Indianapolis’ depleted receiving corps, Rogers wasn’t fantasy relevant.
