Some don’t think about their fantasy baseball drafts until March. Others began prepping the second after the Nationals won the World Series. Even if you’re not ready to select an actual team, now’s as good a time as ever to start formulating 2020 rankings.

A few disclaimers before diving into my list: These rankings are catered to rotisserie leagues with standard five-by-five categories. It’d be a big mistake to go blindly by them if playing in a points league or format using different stats. They’re also designed for needing just one starting catcher, but five outfielders with a corner and middle infielder. Eric Hosmer will compile his way to a respectable ranking, but there’s no reason to draft the pedestrian first baseman in a 10-team mixed league with only nine starting hitter slots.

These rankings don’t yet reflect changes to positional eligibility incurred in 2019. For example, Yoan Moncada is listed at second base, but he now only qualifies for third. Some relievers (Drew Pomeranz, Ryne Stanek) are listed as starters with the opposite holding true for Adrian Houser. Others outside the overall rankings (Evan White, John Means) weren’t available in the positional categories.

Also, it’s still early! These are more a current snapshot than a finished product. There are still dominoes to fall through free agency and trades that will affect rosters and lineup projections. More research will also lead to plenty of tweaking before Opening Day.
