FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday 2/11

Feb 11, 2020

Zucker is now with Pittsburgh and is a great play tonight

The chase is on in the Atlantic division. Can the streaking Tampa Bay Lightning catch the Boston Bruins? Can Toronto finally grasp a playoff spot? With the loss of Seth Jones, can Columbus hang in this race? Out west, it seems like the Oilers avoided disaster with Connor McDavid only bruising his knee. Vancouver remains on top of the Pacific. Calgary and Winnipeg hold the wild card spots, but closely trailing are the Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, and Chicago Blackhawks.  Let’s take a look at some DFS options in another busy Tuesday night in the NHL.

Center

Brock Nelson (NYI): $5,900 vs PHI
Tonight the Islanders will welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to town with major standings implications. The Flyers currently trail the Islanders by just one point in the division (New York has two games in hand). The Flyers will return starting goaltender Carter Hart who has missed his last 9 games with an abdominal injury. Brock Nelson has been red hot of late, with 12 points in his previous 10 games. Last night he posted three assists on the road in Washington. Nelson will center Anthony Beauvillier and Josh Bailey, as well as center the top power playgroup. The Islanders have been scoring more of late, and if Carter Hart shows any rust, I expect Nelson and the Islanders to capitalize.

Wing

Jason Zucker (PIT): $5,400 vs TB
Zucker will likely be a popular play this evening, and rightfully so. He is expected to start his tenure in Pittsburgh riding shotgun alongside Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist. In 45 games this season, he has 14 points, 15 assists, for 29 points. He has shot the puck an alarmingly low 75 times. As a comparison, his career year was 64 points in 82 games, where he shot the puck 222 times. Zucker is a good player, I expect him to flourish in this situation.

Andre Burakovsky (COL): $5,200 vs OTT
Burakovsky is having a career year. Through 51 games, he has 17 goals, 23 assists, for 40 points. His career season prior to this was 38 points back in 2016. He will certainly smash all of his career totals in 2020. For a while, he was a beneficiary of the injuries Colorado had sustained to their top group, which promoted him into a role alongside Nathan MacKinnon. However, since the Avalanche got healthy, their second line of Nazem Kadri, Valeri Nichuskin, and Andre Burakovsky has been rock solid. Burakovsky had a six-game point streak snapped on Saturday against the Blue Jackets. Over that span, he had recorded 12 points. I expect him to get it back going tonight against an Ottawa team that surrenders the third most goals against in the league.

Defense

Damon Severson (NJD): $4,400 vs FLA
I’m going back to the well on Damon Severson.  His point streak has extended to six games, and yet his price has remained firm. He’s logging upwards of 30 minutes a night for the Devils, paired with Andy Greene, and quarterbacking the top power play unit. Despite their large offseason investment in goal, the Florida Panthers have surrendered the fourth-most goals against in the league this season. I expect them to turn to Sergei Bobrovsky tonight, who has given up 12 goals in his previous three games. The Devils should be on the board tonight, and with the was he is playing, I expect Severson to be involved.

Goalie

Mike Smith (EDM): $7,900 vs CHI
Smith has played well of late, winning 7 of his last 8 games. In January alone, he posted a .920 save percentage, and he earned points in every game he played. Tonight, the Oilers welcome the Blackhawks to town for their second game of the Western Canadian road trip, after losing 5-2 on Sunday in Winnipeg. The Blackhawks are struggling to find offense; they have scored just 11 goals in their previous five games.  The Oilers are tentatively favored at -125 right now, but all eyes will be on Connor McDavid who sounds like a game time decision after bruising his knee on Saturday. I expect McDavid will go, and I expect the Oilers will win this one.
