Bobby Sylvester’s 2020 NFL Mock Draft 4.0 (Three Rounds with Trades)

Bobby Sylvester’s 2020 NFL Mock Draft 4.0 (Three Rounds with Trades)

We are now less than ten days away from the biggest sports event in months; the NFL Draft! Every year, there are players who drop much further than forecasted or are reached for higher than expected. You’ll both happen in my mock along with a handful of trades that could very well happen. Let’s go 100+ picks deep to take a look at how the 2020 NFL Draft may end up. Along the way, I’ll explain each of the first round picks along with several other options at that draft spot. Here we go!

Draft Contest: Enter for FREE to Win a FantasyPros Subscription partner-arrow

#1 – Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow (QB – LSU)
While there are rumors that the Bengals could trade down and still draft Justin Herbert while acquiring three+ first round picks, Burrow is almost certainly going to Cincinnati. He may be 24-years old with a shorter history of dominance, but Burrow just put together the single best season in NCAA football history. He is as sure of a bet as you’ll find at 1.01 for a quarterback, and most likely, the Bengals will end up with a plus-plus football IQ signal-caller who is both accurate and mobile. Think of an amped-up version of Tony Romo.

Other options:

  • Trade down to 1.05, 1.18, 1.26, 2.07 with MIA
  • Trade down to 1.06, 2.05 and two future 1sts with LAC
  • Trade down to 1.09, 1.20, 2.10 and future 1st  with JAX
  • Trade down to 1.12, 1.19, future 1st and Derek Carr with OAK

#2 – Washington – Chase Young (Edge – Ohio St)
Washington has plenty of needs, but first and foremost, they need someone to get after the quarterback. It just so happens that the best edge rushing prospect in about a decade will be sitting there for them at 1.02. It seems too good to pass up, but if a team offers a boatload to move up for a quarterback, Washington may not be able to resist a huge package of good picks. It is possible, too, that they have already given up on Dwayne Haskins as the franchise QB and take on Tua or Herbert with this pick. Most likely, though, Young comes off the board to Washington here.

Other options:

**Trade Alert** — Detroit trades 1.03 to LA Chargers for 1.06, 2.37 and 2021 LAC #3

#3 – Los Angeles Chargers (via DET) – Tua Tagovailoa (QB – Alabama)
If Detroit stands pat, they’ve apparently been looking at quarterbacks but it seems like a smokescreen to drum up interest in the pick. More than likely, they’d take Okudah or Simmons rather than a quarterback, but I don’t think we will see that happen, seeing as this is the most likely team to trade back in the first round. If they offer it up, the Chargers, Dolphins, Jags and potentially the Raiders could all have interest and enough juice to jump up to #3 for Tua or Herbert.

Other options:

  • Detroit trades the pick to MIA for 1.05 and 2.39
  • Detroit keeps the pick and takes Jeffrey Okudah (CB – Ohio St)
  • Detroit keeps the pick and takes Isaiah Simmons (LB – Clemson)
  • Detroit keeps the pick and takes Tua Tagovailoa (QB – Alabama)

**Trade Alert** — NY Giants trade 1.04 and 2.36 to Jacksonville for 1.09, Yannick Ngakoue and 4.116

#4 – Jacksonville Jaguars (via NYG) – Jeffrey Okudah (CB – Ohio St)
We’ve been hearing that the Giants are locking in on Simmons at #4. If they don’t take him, they could fill any number of needs from offensive tackle to corner or even a top-tier wide receiver prospect. It is also quite possible that they trade out, and the recent word has been that they are aggressivly pursuing 25-year-old stud edge rusher, Yannick Ngakoue. In order to acquire him, they’d likely have to move back five picks in the first while trading their early second round pick while picking up one of the Jags’ #4s in this draft.

Other options:

#5 – Miami Dolphins – Justin Herbert (QB – Oregon)
The Dolphins are apparently infatuated with Burrow, and why not, of course? They have the ammunition to make it happen, but they also have so many holes on their team and could still get a probable franchise quarterback in Tua or Herbert if they just sit and wait. If they do that, they could keep all of their picks and surround their new team leader with a better offensive line, defense and some skill position weapons.

Other options:

#6 – Detroit Lions (via LAC) – Isaiah Simmons (LB – Clemson)
I mentioned previously that Detroit is the most likely team to trade back, and if they do, they’ll still likely end up with Okudah or Simmons. If the Chargers hold the pick, they’d probably end up with a quarterback but likely the third one off the board, and it may not be their preferred option. The Chargers have many needs so it wouldn’t be a shock if they waited for Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts or Jake Fromm in the 2nd or 3rd round and grabbed a near-certain pro-bowler like Okudah with pick #6.

Other options:

**Trade Alert** — Carolina trades 1.07 to NY Jets for 1.11 and 3.68

#7 – New York Jets (via CAR) – Tristan Wirfs (OT – Iowa)
Carolina has seemed like the easiest team to peg the entire off-season with Derrick Brown almost certainly available at their pick. He would fill their most pressing need but may still be there even if they trade back three or four picks. With five teams needing an elite offensive tackle and only four to go around, this 7th overall pick could be quite the hot commodity. If they don’t trade it to the Jets, Raiders, Bucs or Brown, their only other options are to “reach” for Kinlaw, who might be the best interior defensive linemen, or to grab the first corner off the board.

Other options:

  • Carolina keeps the pick and takes Derrick Brown (iDL – Auburn)
  • Carolina keeps the pick and takes Jeffrey Okudah (CB – Ohio St)
  • Carolina keeps the pick and takes Javon Kinlaw (iDL – South Carolina)
  • Carolina keeps the pick and takes C.J. Henderson (CB – Florida)

#8 – Arizona Cardinals – Jedrick Wills (OT – Alabama)
Now that the Cardinals went out and made a move for DeAndre Hopkins, it seems even more likely that they’ll select one of the top-tier offensive linemen with pick #8. Which one it will be is anyone’s guess, but among the four, Wills may not have the highest ceiling but he is a plug and play polished asset who should protect Kyler Murray right from the get-go. If they don’t go with a tackle and Carolina passes on Brown at #7, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see them go with the interior defensive lineman.

Other options:

#9 – New York Giants (via JAX) – Mekhi Becton (OT – Louisville)
If the Giants hang onto pick #4, Simmons seems to be a lock as their selection, but if Dave Gettleman knows what’s good for him, he’ll trade down and grab an offensive tackle while collecting additional picks. If the Giants don’t end up at #9, Jacksonville could go any number of directions but would likely trade back unless Okudah, Simmons (somehow) or Derrick Brown fell. Tampa and the Jets are prime candidates to trade up to this spot.

Other options:

  • Jacksonville keeps the pick and takes Derrick Brown (iDL – Auburn)
  • Jacksonville keeps the pick and takes C.J. Henderson (CB – Florida)
  • Jacksonville keeps the pick and takes Javon Kinlaw (iDL – South Carolina)
  • Jacksonville trades the pick to Tampa Bay (OT) and lands 1.14, 3.76, 2021 #4

#10 – Cleveland Browns – Andrew Thomas (OT – Georgia)
Three months ago, Thomas was thought to be in a tier all alone as the top offensive tackle in the class. Shinier new objects have apparently passed him up but this is still a high floor, high ceiling prospect that any team in need of a tackle would love to add. The Browns will almost definitely be going with a tackle here unless they can pull off a trade for Trent Williams with Washington. If that happens, they would either trade back, reach for a safety or perhaps even grab the top wideout on the board if this Odell Beckham Jr. trade rumors has any legs.

Other options:

#11 – Carolina Panthers (via NYJ) – Derrick Brown (iDL – Auburn)
If the Jets don’t move up to secure their preferred offensive tackle, they might have to fall back to taking a wide receiver here. It’s a need, but missing on the clear-cut top four tackles would be a punch to the gut.

Other options:

  • NY Jets keep the pick and take Jedrick Willis (OT – Alabama)
  • NY Jets keep the pick and take Jerry Jeudy (WR – Alabama)
  • NY Jets keep the pick and take Andrew Thomas (OT – Georgia)
  • NY Jets keep the pick and take CeeDee Lamb (WR – Oklahoma)

#12 – Las Vegas Raiders – Jerry Jeudy (WR – Alabama)
The Raiders could defensive tackle here, but this is the most likely team to take the first wideout off the board.

Other options:

#13 – San Francisco 49ers (via IND) – Henry Ruggs III (Alabama)
San Francisco is a prime candidate to trade back but with a big need at wide receiver and three quality wideouts at the top of this class, it seems more likely that they’ll trade out of 1.31.

Other options:

**Trade Alert** — Tampa Bay trades 1.14 to Minnesota for 1.22 and 2.58

#14 – Minnesota Vikings (via TB) – CeeDee Lamb (WR – Oklahoma)
Tampa would love to move up and grab an offensive tackle but with all four already gone, they might move back to a wide receiver hungry team like the Vikings, Eagles or even the Saints.

Other options:

  • Tampa Bay keeps the pick and takes Jedrick Willis (OT – Alabama)
  • Tampa Bay keeps the pick and takes Andrew Thomas (OT – Georgia)
  • Tampa Bay keeps the pick and takes Mekhi Becton (OT – Louisville)
  • Tampa Bay keeps the pick and takes D’Andre Swift (RB – Georgia)

#15 – Denver Broncos – C.J. Henderson (CB – Florida)
Denver is another candidate to trade up for a top-three wide receiver and is the most likely landing spot for Ruggs. If none fall, though, that means Henderson or an offensive tackle should still be on the board which is a great consolation.

Other options:

#16 – Atlanta Falcons – Javon Kinlaw (iDL – South Carolina)
The Falcons are in a great spot because they don’t have any desperate needs to have to trade up and should be able to grab the best player available who falls. In this case, it’s Kinlaw who could sneak into the top ten.

Other options:

#17 – Dallas Cowboys – Kristian Fulton (CB – LSU)
Dallas is much like the Falcons in that they don’t have any one specific need that you can pinpoint them to in the first. You can bet it will be on the defensive side of the ball, however, and likely a defensive back.

Other options:

#18 – Miami Dolphins (via PIT) – Xavier McKinney (S – Alabama)
If the Dolphins don’t trade this pick, it could go any number of directions depending on what they do at 1.05. Is this where Jordan Love goes or the first RB in the draft? Maybe, but they’ll probably add to their young defense instead.

Other options:

#19 – Las Vegas Raiders (via CHI) – Kenneth Murray (LB – Oklahoma)
Although there are other options below, I have a hard time believing anything else is possible with this pick. Gruden is all about building culture and there is no one better in this draft, perhaps, than Murray, who also fills a need.

Other options:

#20 – Jacksonville Jaguars (via LAR) – Grant Delpit (S – LSU)
The Jags’ defense has all kinds of holes, primarily in the secondary. Even if they go corner at 1.09, it’s possible that they double down with another defensive back. The dream scenario would be Kinlaw falling to them at 1.20, though.

Other options:

#21 – Philadelphia Eagles – Justin Jefferson (WR – LSU)
Much like the Raiders with Murray, you can almost write this one in ink. The Eagles are wide receiver needy and Jefferson fits their opening in the slot perfectly. He should perform as a JuJu-lite type of receiver that Carson Wentz desperately needs.

Other options:

#22 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via MIN) – Isaiah Wilson (OT – Georgia)
After the Bucs miss out on the top four tackles, they trade back and reach a little on a mauler up-front to make sure they don’t miss the boat again. If Minnesota stays here, wideout is their most likely option.

Other options:

**Trade Alert** — New England trades 1.23 and 4.125 to Detroit for 2.35 and 3.67

#23 – Detroit (via NE) – K’Lavon Chaisson (Edge – LSU)
Every draft someone tumbles down the board for one reason or another. Almost every time, the fall ends with someone trading up. We know New England likes to trade back and has reason to this year with no second round picks, so this is a match made in heaven.

Other options:

  • New England trades the pick (and 3.100) to BAL (Patrick Queen) for 1.28, and 2.60
  • New England keeps the pick and takes K.J. Hamler (WR – Penn St)
  • New England keeps the pick and takes Jalen Hurts (QB – Oklahoma)
  • New England keeps the pick and takes Cole Kmet (TE – Notre Dame)

#24 – New Orleans Saints – Brandon Aiyuk (WR – Arizona St)
This selection may seem like a reach to many of you but there are many with great ties who are suggesting Aiyuk will be gone by the end of the first round. New Orleans is an ideal fit to plug in opposite of Michael Thomas. Queen is a near-perfect pick here too.

Other options:

#25 – Minnesota Vikings – Jeff Gladney (CB – TCU)
The Vikings have two firsts and will almost certainly nab both a wideout and corner with these picks unless someone much better like Chaisson falls or one position runs dry, in which case the first guard could be plucked off boards at #25.

Other options:

#26 – Miami Dolphins (via HOU) – D’Andre Swift (RB – Georiga)
The Dolphins have so many picks that they may have the luxury of pulling the trigger on a running back in the first round. If not Swift, there are many other options who would fill big holes on this depleted roster.

Other options:

#27 – Seattle Seahawks – Cesar Ruiz (iOL – Michigan)
Seattle is apparently considering trading this pick for Yannick Ngakoue and a 4th. If not, trading back is very possible as well, otherwise you can expect them to build around the lines at #27 as they often do.

Other options:

#28 – Baltimore Ravens – Patrick Queen (LB – LSU)
With the Saints and perhaps the Eagles eying this NFL-ready linebacker, Baltimore may be trading up to secure Queen, who perfectly satisfies their needs. If not, we may see them add a skill player for Lamar Jackson to work with.

Other options:

#29 – Tennessee Titans – A.J. Epenesa (Edge – Iowa)
The Titans have the most complete roster in the NFL so they should be picking the best player available here. In this revision, Epenesa is the one who falls, giving them always useful depth on the defensive line.

Other options:

#30 – Green Bay Packers – Ross Blacklock (iDL – TCU)
Packers fans will be clamoring for a wideout to be selected here after all the years Green Bay prioritized defense early in the draft, but they should be thrilled if Blacklock is the pick. He is a wildly underrated plug and play prospect and there are wideouts galore who will be available in Round 2.

Other options:

**Trade Alert** — San Francisco trades 1.31 to Pittsburgh for 2.49, 2021 PIT #3 and 4.124

#31 – Pittsburgh Steelers (via SF) – Jalen Hurts (QB – Oklahoma)
If Gladney is still on the board, I expect the 49ers to keep this pick, but otherwise they are a prime candidate to trade back, seeing as they don’t have a 2nd, 3rd or 4th round pick. Big Ben’s days are running out and Hurts is both extremely accurate and a great runner.

Other options:

  • San Francisco keeps the pick and takes Jeff Gladney (CB – TCU)
  • San Francisco keeps the pick and takes Jalen Reagor (WR – TCU)
  • San Francisco keeps the pick and takes Ross Blacklock (iDL – TCU)
  • San Francisco keeps the pick and takes Cesar Ruiz (iOL – Michigan)

#32 – Kansas City Chiefs – Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB – LSU)
With Jonathan Taylor on the board, the Chiefs shock the football world, grabbing the #4 back on most people’s boards (see Rashaad Penny and Sony Michel the past few years as similar cases). CEH is a perfect fit for Andy Reid’s offense and by grabbing him in the first, Kansas City gets an extra year on the rookie contract.

Other options:
