Q3. What is your general strategy tip for Round 13?

Outside of Lourdes Gurriel Jr, this group of players doesn’t really excite me. Upton is coming off a serious injury and is almost 33 years old, and that’s not the type of player I typically invest in. Boyd and Fried are decent pitching options at this point in the draft. I don’t trust the Rays bullpen, and would not spend draft capital trying to nail their closing situation.
– Jarad Evans (@Jarad_Evans)

At this stage of the draft, team needs and personal preference should matter more than someone else’s rankings. With that said, plenty of these players pop off the page. Fried and Boyd are two of my favorite starting pitchers to target in the double-digit rounds. Neris and Anderson might be the best reliever options for drafters who like to wait as long as possible. The lack of Gurriel is surprising, and Encarnacion remains an excellent source of cheap pop.
– Andrew Gould (@AndrewGould4)

This is the part of the draft where some very cheap, high-upside pitchers become available. Max Fried and Matthew Boyd are two of the more interesting later-round starters who showed the ability to pitch like aces last year. They both have some progression to make before realizing their potential, but it would not surprise me if either of these two posts a top 20 SP season, I would love to have one or both of them on my team.
– Jon Anderson (@JonPGH)

We are now reaching the point of the draft where the availability of certain players is unpredictable. Usually, Max Fried would not be around by now. Based on the format of your league, the same might be true for Kyle Tucker. Know that, if your league-mates haven’t started taking chances, they will now. Be prepared to start deviating at an increasing pace.
– Mario Mergola (@MarioMergola)

The lack of studs and busts in this round indicates that this round is fairly valued in my eyes. I’m probably taking my first closer in this round, as all three closers here either have elite ratios or good job security to trust as your first closer. More importantly, if there are players that you are higher on that haven’t been taken yet, start pouncing on them. It only takes one person to be higher on someone for you to lose your guy and you start to lose focus.
– Carmen Maiorano (@carmsclubhouse)

Before COVID-19 likely shortened the season, Kyle Tucker was absolute gold in this round, but now he may only play 50% of his team’s games rather than 80%, so I’m turning my full attention to Lourdes Gurriel Jr, who was one of the best hitters in baseball from the time he was called back up in May. If I can’t get him, Nick Anderson has the upside to be one of the best closers in baseball.
– Bobby Sylvester (@bobbyfantasypro)

It’s really an uninspiring round at this point, where most picks lack either a high upside or a solid floor. Here is where I am often willing to take the gamble on Kyle Tucker, who could be a league-winner if he starts over Josh Reddick. Alternatively, I usually jump for Nick Anderson, who should be even more valuable with the delay when more situations should look like committees. Other than that, I’m passing on the players in this round entirely.
