Q3. What is your general strategy tip for Round 16?
I like this round quite a bit, with a mix of upside and dependable players to fit whatever your roster needs at this point in the draft. Tanaka and Odorizzi are reliable starting pitchers while Manaea provides big upside (particularly with a shortened season limiting number of games missed to injury). Robles is a great value closer at this point of the draft. Hosmer and Ramos are both established veterans with predictable production.
– Jarad Evans (@Jarad_Evans)
There’s nobody here I’m actively avoiding, but the only guys I regularly draft are Voit, Weaver, and (the often cheaper) Choo. Although this could also be your last to snag a quality catcher, I don’t mind waiting in a mixed league where only one starter is required.
– Andrew Gould (@AndrewGould4)
Things are getting ugly here. These rounds are really all about what your team looks like at the time. A few of these guys should be fine additions to the back-end of your pitching staff, but there is no one you should have very high expectations for. This is the time to grab category-specific players to strengthen your team where it needs it.
– Jon Anderson (@JonPGH)
If Sean Manaea or Luke Weaver are available at this point, I’m definitely buying. Assuming they’re not, I’m probably reaching ahead a round or two to grab the next pitching sleeper on my list. It’s a fair assumption that, if you’re in a league that values Manaea and Weaver higher than the standard, then the same is true for the next tier of pitchers. Read the room and take a hint from your opponents.
– Mario Mergola (@MarioMergola)
Give me some Salvador Perez here! He is fantasy baseball’s biggest market inefficiency at catcher. If he’s off the board, I’m targeting Scott Kingery. I love his positional flexibility and his prospect pedigree. I won’t take my fifth starting pitcher just yet, so my plan is to target the offensive categories I need. That includes Choo, who produces year-in, year-out. If I’m comfortable there, Hansel Robles at this price makes sense.
– Carmen Maiorano (@carmsclubhouse)
While I’d love to grab Scott Kingery or Luke Weaver here, this round is all about getting that last reliable catcher before the bottom drops out at the position. I wouldn’t even call it going from one tier to another. Rather, after Salvador Perez and Wilson Ramos, it goes immediately from second-tier catchers to fourth-tier so grab whichever is still available at your pick.
– Bobby Sylvester (@bobbyfantasypro)
There are a lot of intriguing players in this round, starting with Scott Kingery, who offers a solid power-speed combination with upside. Whether it be the perenially undervalued Wilson Ramos, the bounceback potential of Luke Weaver, or Masahiro Tanaka being able to use his splitter again, fantasy owners have tons of choices. Truth be told, there are no bad picks in this round, so just do the best for your roster.
