Bobby Sylvester’s 2020 First Base Rankings (Fantasy Baseball)

Howie Kendrick was one of the best hitters in baseball last year

Much like every other season, first base is deep and oozing with talent. While it may make sense to grab Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt or Matt Olson if they fall far enough, there isn’t a single player worth drafting above or even at their ADP at the position until the 20th round, where you will have several reliable options who also possses quite a bit of upside. My plan is to snag two of those five in the closing rounds: C.J. Cron, Howie Kendrick, Daniel Murphy, Mark Canha or Wil Myers.

C.J. Cron (MIN): 20th Round Target
Cron had 30 homers in 2018 and followed it up with 25 last year despite just 125 games played. Should he see a full season of health, 35 or even 40 is a possibility but the cost is a mediocre at best batting average. In a shortened season, there is a legitimate chance Cron leads all first basemen in homers, yet he costs virtually nothing on draft day.

Howie Kendrick (WSH): 23rd Round Target
At-bat for at-bat, Kendrick was one of the best hitters in the MLB last season despite his old age. He somehow went from a 4 home run hitter to 17 bombs (in just 334 at-bats) with a .344 batting average. It is hard to tell if it will stick around for a full year but he is well worth a late-round investment.

Other Rankings: C | 2B | 3B | SS | OF | SP | RP
