FanDuel NFL Value Plays: Week 2 (2020)

This piece is part of our article program that features quality content from experts exclusively at FantasyPros. For more insight from Geoff, head over to GoingFor2.com.

Week 1 is in the books, and despite everyone’s trepidation around the lack of preseason, it was a relatively clean week. Few penalties, offenses looked to be in sync, and for the most part, no major injuries or positive COVID tests. It was a win-win all around for the NFL, now let’s hope Week 2 is a winning one for our DFS lineups…

Quarterbacks

Jared Goff (LAR) $7,300 at PHI
The Eagles’ defense struggled last year against the pass (15th in DVOA), but it was one of the best defenses against the run (third in DVOA). The Week 1 game against Washington was not a good barometer on how good (or bad) they are this season, but I don’t think it’ll matter against this Rams offense. The Rams looked really good against the Cowboys in Week 1, including running back Malcolm Brown. If the Rams have a legitimate rushing threat in the backfield, it opens up the play-action pass and some chunk yardage plays for Goff. At $7,300, Goff is underpriced.

Running Backs

Benny Snell (PIT) $4,600 vs. DEN
Snell gets the Monday night treatment for Week 2. What that means is, because he played Monday night — after FanDuel had already put up their pricing — they could not adjust his price to account for the James Connor injury. He becomes an instant value if he does indeed get the start this week. The Broncos held Derrick Henry in check, more or less, but at $4,500, Snell doesn’t have to be “Derrick Henry” to hit value.

Jerick McKinnon (SF) $4,900 at NYJ
McKinnon played the second-most snaps among the running backs for the 49ers. His 31 percent snap share was second to only Raheem Mostert’s 60 percent, and it was markedly higher than Tevin Coleman’s 10 percent.  His five targets tied for the team lead, and he averaged six yards per carry on his three carries. I expect him to be even more involved this week as the 49ers slowly work him into their gameplan after missing the last two seasons.

Wide Receivers

Darius Slayton (NYG) $5,300 at CHI
Slayton is another player that could not be adjusted due to playing on Monday night. In fact, after his 31 point explosion, his price is exactly the same as it was last week at $5.3k. The Bears are a tough defense, but so were the Steelers, who Slayton lit up last week. Slayton will be locked into a lot of my tournament lineups.

CeeDee Lamb (DAL) $5,200 vs. ATL
Lamb is the biggest benefactor of the season-ending injury to tight end Blake Jarwin as Lamb works the same area of the field as Jarwin would have. Lamb played on 82 percent of snaps in Week 1, and he is the cheapest option in the passing game if you want some exposure to this game, which has the highest over/under on the week at 54.

Tight Ends

Mo Alie-Cox (IND) $4,000 vs. MIN
Starting tight end Jack Doyle has yet to practice at the time of this article, which leaves Mo Alie-Cox as the defacto starter if Doyle misses Week 2. We know how much Philip Rivers likes to throw to his tight ends, and at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, he is a huge red zone threat and will only need to catch one touchdown to hit value. Obviously, if Doyle plays, this whole point is moot.

Defense

New York Jets $3,500 vs. SF
There isn’t an obvious value at defense like there was last week, when I took Washington in 80 percent of my lineups, but give me the Jets against an offensively challenged team dealing with injuries.
