FantasyPros Over/Under Challenge Advice: Week 3 (2020)

FantasyPros Over/Under Challenge Advice: Week 3 (2020)

It’s been a tumultuous first two weeks of the NFL season, especially if you happen to be a fantasy superstar. With Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, Davante Adams (doubtful), George Kittle, DJ Chark, Courtland Sutton, AJ Brown, LeVeon Bell, and Raheem Mostert to miss Week 3 and beyond for a few of the aforementioned players, fantasy owners have been forced to scramble and replace them in their lineups. If your fantasy roster is damaged beyond repair, why not dip your toe in the FantasyPros Over/Under Fantasy Challenge presented by BetMGM?

Each week FantasyPros will compile a list of 10 players, accompanied by their projected point total (half PPR). All you need to do is choose if the individual player will go Over or Under the projected point total. Sounds easy enough, right? Ready for the best part? Each week, the top performers will walk away with prizes courtesy of FantasyPros and/or BetMGM. Read more about the contest here.

Let’s dive into my picks for Week 3 of the Over/Under Fantasy Challenge.

Russell Wilson (QB – SEA) vs DAL – Over 22.3
This is the easiest pick of the week. Wilson is playing at such a high level right now and the Cowboys have a roster that is tailor-made for shootouts, forcing the opposing offense to keep the foot on the gas for 60 minutes. Translation: music to Wilson fantasy managers everywhere.

Carson Wentz (QB – PHI) vs CIN – Under 19.0
Conversely, the Wentz struggle bus just keeps chugging along here in 2020. Remember when Wentz was playing at an MVP-level back in 2017 before suffering a season-ending ACL injury? Me neither. The Eagles Pitchfork Brigade comes out in full force after Joe Burrow goes into Philly and earns his first career victory, thoroughly outplaying the former North Dakota State signal-caller.

Jerick McKinnon (RB – SF) at NYG – Over 13.9
McKinnon hasn’t needed more than six touches in either of the first two games in order to score double-digit fantasy points. With both Mostert and Tevin Coleman sitting out Week 3, McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. appear to be the leaders in Kyle Shanahan’s backfield clubhouse in their contest against the Giants in the Meadowlands. I fully expect McKinnon to eclipse 70 scrimmage yards with at least a couple of grabs, as well as a third consecutive week where he finds pay dirt.

Jonathan Taylor (RB – IND) vs NYJ – Over 15.8
As we all saw last week when the Indianapolis Colts dominated the 0-2 Minnesota Vikings (26 carries, two receptions), Frank Reich has no problem whatsoever with sticking the ball in Taylor’s gut and letting him churn out yardage while milking the clock. In a game that screams positive gamescript, Taylor should be force-fed touches with the game well in hand.

Kareem Hunt (RB – CLE) vs WAS – Over 12.0
The Nick Chubb/Kareem Hunt running back duo in Cleveland is the best tandem that the league has to offer right now. With Hunt averaging nearly 15 touches per week so far in 2020, there will be plenty of meat on the bone against the lowly Football Team in Week 3 for both Chubb and Hunt. Personally, I’d like to see new Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski utilize Hunt’s skillset in the passing game a little bit better, as Hunt only has 24 receiving yards on six catches on the year.

CeeDee Lamb (WR – DAL) at SEA – Over 10.0
If you haven’t had a chance to watch the Cowboys’ star-studded rookie receiver out of Oklahoma, I strongly encourage you to tune into the late afternoon game on Fox this Sunday. It’s no secret that Lamb has already passed third-year receiver Michael Gallup in the Cowboys’ pass-catching hierarchy. With offensive coordinator Kellen Moore continuing to scheme Lamb open, I’m predicting that Lamb scores his first career touchdown this week. Hammer the over.

Julio Jones (WR – ATL) vs CHI – Under 14.6
We’ve been down this road too many times before. With Julio being a true game-time decision for Sunday, it’d be irresponsible for me to expect Jones to hit the over in Week 3. While I wouldn’t be surprised to see Julio give it a go, I’m expecting him to take plenty of plays off, tending to his nagging hamstring while the offense marches on without him.

A.J. Green (WR – CIN) at PHI – Under 10.1
Gone are Green’s days of dominating opposing NFL secondaries. In a matchup against 2017 All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay, the 32-year old injury-plagued former Georgia Bulldog will see his 2020 struggles continue. Despite ranking fourth in the NFL with 22 targets, Green has only managed to haul in eight receptions on the year.

Jerry Jeudy (WR – DEN) vs TB – Under 9.0
With Jeudy forced to make do without his starting quarterback, Week 3 will be tough sledding for the highly touted rookie receiver. With Sutton out for the year, Jeudy is now the unquestioned public enemy number one for opposing defenses’ scouting reports. Throw in Jeudy’s rib injury and it’s a mighty big ask for Jeudy to make a sizeable impact against Tampa Bay.

Jonnu Smith (TE – TEN) at MIN – Over 8.8
Smith is quickly establishing himself as one of the best young tight ends that the league has to offer. With three touchdowns already under his belt through two games, Mike Zimmer and the Vikings will have their work cut out for them against Smith. With household name Mo Alie-Cox from the Colts carving up the Vikings defense in Week 2 to the tune of five receptions and 111 yards, the Vikings have no shot at limiting Smith’s inevitable impact on Week 3’s contest inside US Bank Stadium.
