Quarterback & Tight End Streamers: Week 2 (2020 Fantasy Football)

Quarterback & Tight End Streamers: Week 2 (2020 Fantasy Football)

First of all, what a week! A lot of surprises as always. Jacksonville, the supposed worst team in the league, came from behind to beat the Colts. The Washington Football Team stunned the Eagles by dominating in the second half. With regards to fantasy, running back Nyheim Hines and Malcolm Brown were two of the top five. We even got to see the re-re-emergence of Sammy Watkins.

As for my streamers, it was not a majestic week by any means but it wasn’t a disaster either. My Indy stack consisting of Philip Rivers and Jack Doyle was disappointing considering the nice matchup but produced nevertheless. Rivers managed to get around 20 fantasy points in PPR scoring, finishing 15th among quarterbacks. Two of my other quarterback recommendations finished as QB1s. Gardner Minshew was 11th and my long shot, Mitchell Trubisky continued his dominance over Detroit by finishing sixth. Doyle was less impressive as he failed to garner the targets I expected. He only had four targets but converted three of them for 49 yards. He finished as a top-20 tight end, which was better than Tyler Higbee, Mike Gesicki, Hayden Hurst, Austin Hooper, and Rob Gronkowski.

For streaming this week there are a lot of decent options but there isn’t one that stands out above the rest. I like the potential for six quarterbacks. The four I am not including as my finalists are Dwayne Haskins, Philip Rivers, Teddy Bridgewater, and Kirk Cousins. I really like Haskins’ matchup against Arizona but I still need to see more from him to go all in. Philip Rivers seems rusty and perhaps could be done entirely despite playing against Minnesota this week, whose defense seems the most porous it has been in years. Teddy Bridgewater is a safe bet as he plays Tampa Bay. However, I do think the Buccaneers’ defense is better than it appeared last week against the Saints, one of the most formidable offenses. Also, Bridgewater is showing more and more that he lacks the upside I would want to win my week. Kirk Cousins most likely would be my third choice this week. Indianapolis’ defense is not dominant. I just think that Minnesota’s offense needs a bit more time to gel in the post-Diggs era. Adam Thielen is “all that” but Justin Jefferson, Olabisi Johnson, and other receivers need to carve out roles. The tight end battle between Irv Smith Jr. and Kyle Rudolph was silenced in Week One. Minnesota will get strong – just not yet.

Quarterback Streamer of the Week – Ryan Tannehill (TEN) vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Despite waiting until the final minute to beat Denver, Ryan “Tannethrill” Tannehill looked good for the most part. Remember, Denver has always had a great defense and this year is no different. Last week’s game wasn’t really close. Tennessee’s kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed three field goals and an extra point. Tannethrill and the boys moved the ball well despite missing that inside the 20 punch. Against the Jaguars I think they can overcome it and potentially double their point total. Corey Davis, a player I targeted like mad this offseason in dynasty because of his diminished price tag, looks to be fighting hard for his next contract. Most likely he’ll be moving on from the Titans but it was exciting to see his 7/101 box score. A.J. Brown had a quiet game but did pick it up in the second half. Jonnu Smith is living up to the hype as he was busy and found the end zone. Adam Humphries is also a factor that many have forgotten. Finally, Derrick Henry had a tough day but still managed to get over 100 yards rushing. More importantly, he was targeted three times, which is a sign that he will most likely be used more in the passing game. Tannethrill has the weapons and also brings mobility. He’s got a high floor which is what we love in streaming QBs. He also has high-ceiling potential. He plays Jacksonville. All arrows pointed up.

Alternate Streamer of the Week – Gardner Minshew (JAX) vs Tennessee Titans

I’m going to stay with the same game. I love choosing players who are playing division rivals. There is something about division matchups that inspire everyone to step it up a notch. If you follow me on Twitter @Masterjune70, you’ll already know that my name is MinshewBroFist, therefore you know that I am a Minshew truther. I feel that (especially in the first half of this season) Minshew will be in my streaming mentions more often than not. Jacksonville’s schedule is favorable in the first half and I just think that Minshew has the “it” factor that will help him be their quarterback next season as opposed to the Jaguars tanking for Trevor Lawrence. In only 13 starts, Minshew has four comeback victories when the Jags were trailing at halftime. This included last week’s game against Indianapolis. To put this into perspective, Dak Prescott has only three comeback victories in 68 total starts. Minshew might not be the most talented quarterback out there but no one can dispute his tenacity and desire to win. Every start he has a fire lit under him and despite all the rhetoric about him being a quality backup, he’s the real deal to me. Last week he was über-efficient completing 19 of 20 passes. He’s accurate and makes few mistakes when under pressure. His touchdown to interception ratio last season was 6:1. Incredible how he keeps being undervalued. I think Minshew is a great high floor play with some upside. His weapons are not elite (yet) but are deceptively better than most think. The rise of Laviska Shenault last week is inspiring. D.J. Chark is a beast and Keelan Cole is a great possession receiver than needs love because when he does play, he produces. In many ways, he is the Minshew of wide receivers. And like Tannethrill, the “Stashe” is not afraid to add fantasy points to his total by rushing to get that first down. I like this game to be high scoring with both quarterbacks benefitting.

Tight End Streamer of the Week – Logan Thomas (WFT) vs Arizona Cardinals

He was my long shot last week that paid off and now I’m all in. I’m looking for 2020’s Darren Waller. It’s not going to happen with old men like Greg Olsen or Jimmy Graham. I’m not sold on Dawson Knox. O.J. Howard‘s great Week One could easily be Gronk’s great Week Two. I feel like even if I am wrong, it is time to plant the flag and be right early in case Thomas does take off. Remember a good tight end week gets 10-12 points versus a bad week of < 7. That is not a huge point differential and is therefore the risk I am willing to take to snag him. He was relied upon heavily last week when Washington was trailing. In fact, he led the Washington Football Team in targets with eight. More than Terry McLaurin, Steven Sims, and any of the team’s solid receiving running backs. And Washington will be trailing a lot this season including this game. He also found the end zone which is always a bonus. Sometimes you just have to go for it, knowing it might not pan out. And if it doesn’t come to fruition, there’s plenty of Olsens, Grahams and Knoxes to sift through next week. You got to live in the moment and the moment is now for Logan Thomas!

Alternate Streamer of the Week – Jordan Reed (SF) vs New York Jets

The process for this one is simple. George Kittle isn’t going to play. He’s the team’s alpha receiver. Deebo Samuel is out. Brandon Aiyuk might play but has never played a snap in the NFL. Kendrick Bourne. Trent Taylor. Dante Pettis. Maybe new perennial WR3 Mohamed Sanu plays. This does not leave much apart from the 49ers’ running backs, who I think will dominate. However, San Fran needs more. Jordan Reed when healthy is one of the most dynamic and dangerous tight ends in the league. Guess what? He’s healthy. And guess what? He plays the Jets. ‘Nuff said.

Important Note:

If George Kittle does end up playing then go with C.J. Uzomah for the Bengals. He’s the go-to tight end on Cincinnati and is only 1% rostered. He is playing against the Cleveland Browns who were second-worst against tight ends last week. He might not give you the ultimate upside but he’s usually good for five or six targets and has the ability to get in the end zone. Last week he was tied for second on the team with five targets. Joe Burrow looked good despite the low scoring affair. The LA Chargers have a much better defense than the Browns and Burrow is ready to take that next step. The Cincinnati/Cleveland game should be a wide-open scoring affair.
