Now that we’ve gone through about one-third of the season, we are much more knowledgeable on what every team’s offense will look like each week. As a result, it’s now a little easier to identify which players make the best trade candidates at this point in the season. The bye weeks are usually when most deals go down since injuries and difficulty fielding a good lineup weekly push fantasy managers to make tough decisions. This year is especially challenging since the threat of games and bye weeks being moved is always looming. In a season that promises to consistently keep you on your toes, you need to be ready and willing to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself and capitalize on the best trade windows for the athletes on your squad and the players you’re targeting. With that being said, our featured experts are here to help you make the most of your trade assets. Q1. Who is your favorite buy-low trade candidate at this point in the season and who are you willing to give up for him?

Lamar Jackson (QB – BAL) 
“Fantasy managers who spent an early-round pick on Jackson are probably feeling pretty frustrated right now, which means it’s the perfect time to make a buy-low offer for him. He’s currently just 15th among QBs in fantasy points per game, but there is little reason to doubt that he can return to the 2019 form that saw him outscore the next best QB by nearly 80 fantasy points. Jackson’s weapons have only improved from last year and he certainly hasn’t lost a step. His lack of fantasy production is most likely the byproduct of a minor knee injury and an early-season schedule that hasn’t produced any close games yet. We know he has league-winning ability once he gets going, so I’d try to acquire him by packaging a QB like Ben Roethlisberger or Tom Brady with a hot-starting WR like Chase Claypool or Jamison Crowder.”

Amari Cooper (WR – DAL) 
“My favorite buy-low is somebody you may not think of right now, but makes a ton of sense. There isn’t a top-12 receiver you can get as cheap as Cooper right now. The installation of his new ball distributor (Andy Dalton) and his lackluster Week 5 performance (2/23 on four targets) could depress his perceived value to some. Dalton has thrived in Cincinnati with weapons and the weapons in Dallas are the best he’s ever had at his disposal, which could work to your advantage to make a sneaky move for Cooper. If you’ve held on to some disappointing or returning running backs like a Kenyan Drake or Raheem Mostert, a one-for-one swap could make sense to recoup some value.”

Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB – KC) 
“My favorite buy low through five games is Edwards-Helaire, who hasn’t hit his ceiling quite yet. Through five games, Edwards-Helaire is fantasy’s RB13, but he will likely finish inside the top six at the position. He’s received the fourth-most carries inside the five-yard line, but hasn’t found the end zone on any of these attempts. CEH is still tied to the best offense in football and should be a league winner down the stretch. Trade for him before he starts scoring touchdowns.”

Tyler Boyd (WR – CIN) 
“Don’t let a bad game out of the Bengals’ offense move you off Boyd. He was in what will be his toughest matchup of the season against Marlon Humphrey in Week 5, leading to a potential buy-low window. Now that we know A.J. Green is probably droppable, we must move forward with Boyd as the clear-cut top target for Joe Burrow, who should only improve as time goes on. I’d be buying Boyd as a low-end WR2 with top-12 upside for the remainder of the season. If you can get him for someone like JuJu Smith-Schuster or CeeDee Lamb, I’d be doing that.”

Chris Godwin (WR – TB) 
“Godwin’s value is never going to be lower for the rest of the season than what it is at this moment. While I don’t prefer to trade for players that are currently injured, Godwin is a different case. He is going to soak up targets when he comes back into the lineup, which could be as early as this week. When he’s been on the field this season, Brady has been regularly looking his way and he could jump right back into the top-10 WR conversation immediately. If you can sell high on someone like D.J. Moore for Godwin right now, I’d absolutely make that move.”

Q2. Who is your favorite sell-high candidate at this point in the season and what would you try to get in return?

Todd Gurley (RB – ATL) 
“Gurley is currently the RB10 on the year, but if someone in your league believes he is still the Gurley of old, it’s time to cash out. Gurley is coming off a huge game, but it came against a Panthers defense that ranks near the bottom of the league against the run for the second straight year. Big picture, Gurley is a player in decline who is averaging less than 4.0 yards per carry and has virtually no role in the passing game in Atlanta, meaning he is truly a touchdown-or-bust kind of fantasy commodity. His schedule gets considerably harder starting in Week 9, so you could wait a few weeks to trade him. But I’d gladly pull the trigger now if I could use him to buy low on someone like Michael Thomas or Chris Godwin.”

“My favorite sell high candidate at this point is Todd Gurley, who is the RB10 in half-PPR formats. His production is tied directly to his touchdown scoring, as he’s hit pay dirt five times in five games. Meanwhile, he’s seeing fewer than three targets per game and has only cleared 81 rushing yards once this season. There are also potential durability concerns as the calendar turns to November and December.”

Darrell Henderson (RB – LAR)
“We heard Sean McVay say before the season that he wanted to model his run-game after Kyle Shanahan’s. He’s certainly done that through five weeks, as the load has been split up with almost no predictability. Henderson’s touches per game have been: 3, 14, 21, 9, and 19. We had Malcolm Brown as a popular target after Week 1. We had Henderson as a popular target after Weeks 2, 3, and 5. It would not shock anyone if we see Cam Akers be a popular target in the near future. If you’re okay with the unpredictable nature, great, but most managers want someone they can trust in their lineup. With matchups against the 49ers and Bears on tap, take advantage of the Week 5 performance and sell high. I would rather have someone like David Montgomery, who will be much more predictable.”

Devonta Freeman (RB – NYG) 
“To me, there is no bigger sell-high in all of fantasy than Freeman. With a woeful offense environment that just hasn’t produced (five touchdowns TOTAL from the Giants all season) and has an upcoming five-game stretch of tough matchups (Eagles twice, Football Team twice, and the Bucs) all boasting strong defensive lines and/or tough run defenses that will further limit the Giants’ offensive upside, that combination screams “sell, sell, sell.” Strike while the iron is hot after Freeman’s Week 5, in which he put up 87 total yards and a touchdown. Try to pluck some value from RB-needy teams for guys like Kenny Golladay, JuJu Smith-Schuster, or Robert Woods.”

D.J. Moore (WR – CAR)
“Moore is coming off of a big fantasy performance, but not much changed in this Panthers offense last week. He is still the clear second option to Robby Anderson and he only saw five targets in Week 5. While he was able to showcase his talent and break away for the long touchdown, he’s not seeing enough volume to warrant the hype that he’s receiving right now. Moore is being viewed as a solid WR2 right now and he’s still a high-end WR3 in my ROS rankings. If you can flip Moore for Chris Godwin right now, who should be coming back soon, I’d make that move in a heartbeat.”
