The NFL season is flying by this year, and we’re already over one-quarter of the way through the 2020 fantasy football season. With games postponed or moved around due to COVID-19, this year has been unpredictable to say the least. On top of that, the crazy amount of injuries we’ve seen has made this year even stranger for fantasy football. Either way, it’s time to look at some players and decide whether to buy, sell, or hold them in your dynasty leagues.

Jamison Crowder (WR – NYJ)
The first guy I’m looking at this week is Jamison Crowder of the New York Jets. Crowder is 27 years old and is in his sixth NFL season. He’s currently ranked as the 55th wide receiver according to our FantasyPros dynasty and keeper league rankings. Despite missing two games so far this year, Crowder is the WR22 in PPR leagues and WR20 in standard-scoring leagues. Crowder is averaging 22.7 points per game in PPR scoring, but he continues to be overlooked. The Jets are seriously lacking offensive weapons right now, and Crowder is more than likely going to lead this team in targets as the best fantasy player on this offense.

I’m definitely holding onto Crowder if I roster him in a dynasty league. Even if you’re not competing this year, the return you’ll get back likely won’t warrant selling him. If you’re looking to make a run this year, I’d try to acquire him. Even after another big week, there’s a good chance his manager isn’t sold on Crowder from a long-term perspective. Based on our dynasty and keeper rankings, he’s a cheap player to buy who will more than likely give you some nice fantasy production for at least the 2020 season.
Verdict: Buy/Hold

Ronald Jones (RB – TB)
Next is Ronald Jones of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who is coming off one of the best games of his NFL career and his second straight game with 100+ rushing yards. Not only did he have one of his best showings against the Bears with 106 yards on 17 carries, but he should’ve had a receiving touchdown as well. Jones has run the ball very well this year and definitely has improved off of his first two seasons in the NFL.

Currently the RB20 in PPR scoring and the RB23 in standard-scoring leagues, Jones has flourished this year. Given the way he’s played, the Buccaneers will have to keep him involved. That said, Leonard Fournette has missed the last two weeks with an ankle injury. On top of that, rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn has been active in just two games this year, and he left last week’s game with a chest injury after taking a massive hit. Once Fournette is healthy and as Vaughn gets more involved in the passing game, Jones’ usage is absolutely going to go down.

If rostering Jones, I’m using this opportunity to sell high where I can. Jones has never been great in the passing game and is currently tied for the most drops in the NFL. Vaughn has already shown he’s a more natural pass-catcher, so I believe he’ll continue to get more reps as he develops and sees the field more often. Not to mention, Fournette is a proven NFL running back coming off a 2019 season in which he caught 76 of 100 targets. Overall, I simply don’t expect Jones to be a lead workhorse in this backfield. It will be a committee moving forward.
Verdict: Sell High

JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR – PIT)
JuJu Smith-Schuster of the Pittsburgh Steelers has been off to a fairly slow start this year. It wasn’t long ago that we saw him as an elite fantasy wide receiver, but he’s fallen off since. Smith-Schuster definitely not been the same as he was, but that could have been largely chalked up to Ben Roethlisberger’s absence last year. This year, the receiver has dealt with a knee injury that has limited his playing time to an extent. He has played roughly 75% of the offensive snaps, versus his typical 90% or more.

Furthermore, rookie Chase Claypool just blew up for four touchdowns, and Diontae Johnson has also looked good this year when on the field. Smith-Schuster, however, is just 23 years old and has a ton of football left in him. He’s currently the WR10 in our dynasty and keeper league rankings, but thanks to his slow start and the hype surrounding Pittsburgh’s other wide receivers, he’s someone to potentially buy low right now. When a rookie explodes the way Claypool just did, it’s easy for fantasy players to get excited. However, I’m still very confident in the talented Smith-Schuster.
Verdict: Buy/Hold

Robert Tonyan (TE – GB)
Robert Tonyan exploded onto the fantasy scene recently. In Week 4 against the Falcons, he blew up for three touchdowns, catching all six of the targets thrown his way for 98 yards. This isn’t the only time we’ve seen Tonyan produce this year, as he’s currently the TE5 in PPR scoring leagues and the TE4 in standard-scoring leagues.

Aaron Rodgers isn’t exactly known for targeting the tight end position, and he hasn’t really made one too fantasy-relevant since Jermichael Finley back in 2012. Yet Tonyan has been extremely efficient this year, catching 13 of 14 targets for 173 yards and five total touchdowns. With how good Rodgers has played this year and the lack of weapons in Green Bay, I’m in on Tonyan. It will be interesting to see what happens when Davante Adams is back on the field and healthy, but Rodgers is playing at an elite level, and the Packers need pass-catchers.

If rostering Tonyan, you more than likely either had him on your taxi squad or were lucky enough to grab him off the waiver wire. Either way, he appears to be a favorite target of Rodgers, so I’m looking to acquire him if possible. I’d assume most managers are going to try and sell high on Tonyan after his ridiculous Week 4 performance, and I’d be happy to buy. Don’t go out of your way to overpay, but there’s a good chance the team rostering Tonyan is willing to move him.
Verdict: Buy/Hold

Jameis Winston (QB – NO)
I’m sure plenty of dynasty players will see the name Jameis Winston and immediately roll their eyes and scroll on, but hear me out. As of right now, Winston is not even a name on anyone’s radar. But after the last few games we’ve seen out of the Saints and Drew Brees, I’d look to acquire Winston now.

If you’re in Superflex or 2QB leagues, quarterbacks — even high-end backups like Winston — are extremely valuable. Andy Dalton is a perfect example of this, as he’ll likely be a starting option in these leagues for at least the rest of the 2020 season. I’m not saying Brees is washed or is getting replaced anytime soon, but Taysom Hill clearly is not the long-term answer in New Orleans, and Winston is currently the QB30 in our dynasty and keeper league rankings. Even if Winston isn’t an NFL starter anytime soon, he’s still young (26) and has shown more than enough on the field as a major fantasy producer, even with his turnovers. Since he’ll likely be cheap, I’m targeting Winston in Superflex and 2QB leagues where I can.
Verdict: Buy Low
