OwnersBox Week 4 (2020 Fantasy Football)

OwnersBox Week 4 (2020 Fantasy Football)

Welcome to OwnersBox. OwnersBox provides a unique fantasy sports experience that offers contests that run for a full week or more. This can lead to some interesting strategy sessions, as you are often no longer planning for just one game. Engaging and entertaining, Weekly Fantasy Sports could very well become the next big thing in fantasy football. For more information on the OwnersBox platform, check out our Introduction to OwnersBox here.

For Week 3 we keep our focus to one of OwnersBox’s most interesting contests, the eight-person NFL drafts. The eight-person leagues span three weeks, with the pool of drafted players being eight quarterbacks, 16 running backs, 16 wide receivers, eight tight ends, eight kickers, and 24 IDP players.

The 16 person leagues are also highly intriguing, but may not generate enough initial interest from those not comfortable with their depth of player knowledge (32 wide receivers, 32 running backs, and 48 IDP players are drafted in those contests). For the purposes of this discussion, we will focus our energy on players that can be had late in eight-person drafts, or even as swaps. Since there are only eight quarterbacks, tight ends, and kickers drafted, and our recommendation is to fill your running back spots first. This week we will also touch on some exciting news from OwnersBox.

Things to remember

  • Contests span different lengths depending on size. Two-person contests last one week. Four-person contests last two weeks. Eight person contests last three weeks. 16 person contests last four weeks.
  • Drafts start as soon as full. If you are no longer available to draft, leave the draft lobby for a full refund.
  • Two lineup swaps per contest (injured or reserve/COVID players can be swapped with no restrictions).
  • You can draft a team for Week 4 games up until kickoff on Sunday.

Scheduled drafts are here!

Previously at OwnersBox, drafters would sign up for tournaments that would draft as soon as they filled. This caused some issues for some fantasy managers who were away from their device when the draft finally filled. This sometimes caused entire teams to be auto-drafted. We (the users) expressed our concerns about having ‘draft starts when filled’ only options, and our friends at OwnersBox have listened. One of the best things about OwnersBox is the responsiveness and willingness to apply feedback, and this is just another instance of these qualities materializing with action.

OwnersBox now offers scheduled drafts. You can set up your own private or public draft, and set it to the draft time of your choosing. Conversely, you can also choose to join a scheduled draft in the OwnersBox lobby. Here is a quote from our friends at OwnersBox.

“In response to great feedback from our users, we’re introducing a new feature to make sure you don’t miss a draft: SCHEDULED PUBLIC CONTESTS. Access this new feature from the Lobby by clicking the “Schedule Public Contest” button at the top. You can then select your sport, entry fee, and # of entrants. Once you have the contest setup the way you want you choose the time you’d like to draft. Once the contest is generated, other users can join it from the Lobby. With the introduction of this feature we have added a “Draft Start” column to denote the scheduled draft time. Important Note: If the scheduled contest does not fill by the chosen draft time the contest will disband and entry fees are refunded”.

This is truly a gamechanger for both OwnersBox, and for us, their users. The ability to draft when wanted as opposed to having to worry about being close to your device when the drafts finally fills is a huge benefit. This is especially true for those of us who have missed a draft and had started to resort to leaving drafts when we knew we would be away from the keyboard for a certain period of time. Be sure to check out the new feature this weekend.

Week 4 Strategy

With all the injuries at the running back position, the suggestion is to spend two of your first three picks on running backs, with the other being an elite tight end or wide receiver. The Seahawks stack of Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf can still be had in the third and fourth rounds in some draft rooms and may be where energies should be focused this week. Questionable elite receivers like Michael Thomas, Julio Jones, and Davante Adams can all be drafted at a massive discount.

At the IDP positions, Devin White has fallen down OwnersBox projections and can be stolen near the end of drafts. Blake Martinez is still an elite option as his solo tackle to assist ratio if going to correct itself sooner rather than later. One of the top IDP players on the planet, he can still be had for a steal. Finally, Jaylon Smith is also lasting unusually late in drafts this week. Abuse the fact that most of your rivals will rely on the default projections and target these three LB1’s at a value.
