Week 6 Fantasy Football Trade Chart (2020)

Week 6 Fantasy Football Trade Chart (2020)

As most fantasy managers expected that it would be, depth is of critical importance this year in fantasy football. With games being postponed, bye weeks being moved, and injuries continuing to pile up, fantasy managers are desperate for bodies to plug into their starting lineup.

A running back who will get double digit touches? Gold. A wide receiver with a clear path to targets? Perfect. The “stack your bench with high upside options” maxim is not relevant any longer. It’s about putting out a full lineup, hopefully one with a decent floor.

With so many rosters being decimated by various developments, fantasy managers have been desperately seeking out relief in the trade market. And before you make any deal, make sure to consult our trade chart below, which provides trade values for every format and each position.

A reminder that the numbers presented are not FAAB dollars, but rather a way to measure the trade value of any player. Just add up the totals on both sides of the trade in the proper format, and judge whether a deal makes sense in a vacuum.

Dak Prescott’s unfortunate season-ending injury accounts for the addition of Andy Dalton. Relevant in only two-quarterback leagues, Dalton does have a top-5 fantasy finish on his ledger, albeit that was eons ago, and has plenty of weapons at his disposal. He’s a must-add in two-quarterback or superflex leagues, and will be a streamable option most weeks in single-quarterback formats.

Other than that, just some minor movement. Cam Newton looks to be close to returning to health and is past his bye, Ryan Tannehill continues to be efficient and is past his bye, and Tom Brady’s performance on Thursday night was actually fairly impressive given his lack of weapons, other than, you know, the whole fourth down thing. With Chris Godwin on his way back, Brady can be considered a low-end QB1.

Chris Carson is such a bizarre case this season. He’s tied for 18th among running backs in carries with 61. He’s tied for seventh among running backs in targets with 23. He suffered a knee sprain that looked serious and was supposed to keep him out of action for at least a week or two. And he’s the fifth-ranked running back on the season. By hook or by crook, Carson is getting his fantasy points, and his 21 receptions and six touchdowns through five games shows both his high floor and high ceiling.

Ok, so maybe Kareem Hunt IS going to morph into a 20-25 touch back without Nick Chubb. That was the only question – the workload. D’Ernest Johnson barely even factored in until the end of the game when Hunt was getting stretched out. He’s a locked-in RB1 and would have an even higher value if Chubb were lost for the season.

Raheem Mostert showed not only that he was healthy, but that he’ll get nearly all of the running back touches when he is, despite Jerick McKinnon‘s effectiveness. And without Jordan Howard, Myles Gaskin takes his usual high-floor role and combines it with goal-line touches. There’s a lot to like.

Adam Thielen and D.K. Metcalf are strong WR1s. They’re the top two receiver in half-PPR format and it’s not fluky. You can buy high on both.

I would be concerned about trading for Steelers receivers. Despite Diontae Johnson leaving multiple games early with injuries, JuJu Smith-Schuster is seeing six targets per game. That’s fewer than Greg Ward, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and T.Y. Hilton. And the Steelers are winning, so it’s not clear that there’s any reason to change their philosophy. And Johnson’s back injury, and his general inability to stay on the field, is concerning.

But most of all, the genie is out of the bottle with Chase Claypool, to take a turn of phrase from Mike Tagliere. I understand that it appears, on the surface, that Claypool needs an injury to either Johnson or James Washington to see enough snaps to make a difference. But sometimes, I think fantasy managers just need to accept that coaches, particularly smart ones like Mike Tomlin, will understand what’s best for their football team. And there’s no way he can look at Claypool’s performance in Week 5 or his raw talent and think that he belongs to sit out the majority of the game. You can still trade for Smith-Schuster or Johnson, just lower your expectations.

Tight End

Hunter Henry 8 7 +1 10 9 +1 11 10 +1
Zach Ertz 6 8 -2 8 10 -2 9 11 -2
Robert Tonyan 5 N/A +5 7 N/A +7 8 N/A +8

There’s a bit more movement than usual in the tight end trade chart. It appears that everyone other than Kyle Yates greatly underestimated Jonnu Smith heading into the season. Although I still expect some regression, it’s impossible to ignore what Smith is doing this season. He’s a step below the truly elite options, but it’s not a huge one.

I still expect Zach Ertz to rebound. Unless he’s hiding an injury, he’s too talented, and the track record is too long, to accept that this will be his performance for the remainder of the season. The schedule lightens up a bit after Week 6, and as the rest of the Eagles’ pass-catchers get healthy, defenses won’t be able to focus as much on Ertz. His value has certainly declined from where it was, but he’s still someone who I’m willing to roll out in lineups.

As is Robert Tonyan. Aaron Rodgers needs a second option in the passing game, and it’s not looking like Valdes-Scantling is the answer. It’s difficult to find a reliable tight end this year, and Tonyan is as close as any option outside the top seven.
