Fantasy Football QB1 Targets: Week 10 (2020 Fantasy Football)

Fantasy Football QB1 Targets: Week 10 (2020 Fantasy Football)

There is almost always a decent crop of quarterbacks available on any given week, whether that’s your spare QB on the bench or a host of others on the waiver wire. In today’s NFL, most quarterbacks will probably be at least “fine” from a fantasy perspective, but QBs have massive scoring potential and, as such, they should get as much attention as the rest of your roster.

A few QBs are basically locked into your lineup regardless of matchup. I consider those to be Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Kyler Murray. There are a couple of guys angling to be in that tier, but for purposes of this piece, you won’t see any of the above moving forward. If you have them, play them.

Let’s take a look at a few typically solid options with overall QB1 upside, some mid-range QBs that aren’t automatic starters but may be hanging out on your bench, and a bunch of decent streaming options for Week 10.

Likely Rostered Options with Massive Upside

Josh Allen (BUF)
The Bills-Cardinals game may actually end 50-48. The points total (currently 56.5) is the highest of the weekend, and rightly so. The Cardinals have averaged the NFL’s most total yards per game at a massive 422.0. Meanwhile, the Bills have the seventh-highest passing output, averaging 277.0 per game.

The Bills are actually almost in the basement from a rushing perspective, but that’s fine for Allen’s managers. Allen has had a pretty turbulent 2020; he had at least 25.4 fantasy points in each of his first four games, but no more than 16.4 points in the next four. He had 36 in Week 9, so that means the pattern is on course for him to erupt over the next three before dropping off for the following four. That’s how that works, right?

Aaron Rodgers (GB)
Since I took over this column, there have really been two themes: 1. Justin Herbert is good, and 2. Follow the Jaguars. The Jaguars currently allow the third-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks (22.7 per game), but their offense can produce enough that it isn’t always just a massacre. That’s perfect when you have the other team’s QB. Rodgers is on a tear this season, throwing for at least three touchdowns in all but two games, and he has 11 TDs over his last three outings. Whichever way you spin it, Rodgers is in a great spot.

Mid-Range QBs That May be Available

Jared Goff (LAR)
Adding to the comment above about themes of this column, a third one may be to follow the Seahawks. They have arguably the best offense in the league, but their defense is miles away from what it was years ago in the Legion of Boom days. Their defense allows a gargantuan 455.1 yards per game, worst in the NFL by a large margin (second place is our favorite Jaguars at 418.1 yards per game). The Seahawks have allowed the most passing yards per game at 362.1 yards per game, again worst in the NFL by a large margin (second place is the Falcons at 310.3 yards per game).

The Rams are a mystery team, meaning that some weeks they can look like Super Bowl contenders and other weeks they look like contenders for the first overall draft pick contenders. Yet this should be a week that they click.

Streamers!

Baker Mayfield (CLE)
I generally try to avoid the Browns’ passing attack by all means, but the Texans’ defense is so porous that I can get on board this week. They have allowed the fourth-most total yards per game, and they let NFL-debutant Jake Luton put up 21.5 fantasy points last week, so anything is possible. Mayfield’s range of outcomes this season has been between four and 40 fantasy points, so there’s some clear risk here.

Drew Lock (DEN)
Lock has posted a solid 19.8 and 29.2 points in his last two outings, including five touchdowns. He will look to keep the momentum going this week against a Raiders defense that has allowed at least 23.4 fantasy points in four of their last five games. It seems like the Broncos’ young offense is finally clicking.

Derek Carr (LV)
In the same game, Carr is a bit of a conservative option if you’d like to go that route. He hasn’t exceeded 24 fantasy points this season, but he hasn’t dropped below 12.5 either. The Broncos have allowed at least 18.2 fantasy points in every game this season, so Carr should be in store for one of his slightly-above-average outings.

As we continue to navigate the bye weeks, these guys should provide a nice stopgap or, in the cases of Allen and Rodgers, give you a massive advantage for your crucial Week 10 matchups.
