DraftKings NFL Lineup Advice: Week 15 Saturday Slate (12/19)

This week, we’re treated to two NFL games on Saturday, and that means a daily fantasy slate available over at DraftKings. Because it’s just a two-game slate, the layout of this piece looks a tiny bit different than my normal lineup advice piece. There isn’t a favorite stack featured. Frankly, Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen — not necessarily in that order — are the easy top options at quarterback and will garner a ton of attention from gamers. Allen’s a bit cheaper, and that helps swing the pendulum in his favor for my preferred roster builds, but both have merit for usage. Having said that, it’s their respective top wideouts who get the nod below. They’re joined by a do-it-all back and a minimum salary contrarian play for GPPs.

Favorite Studs

Davante Adams (WR – GB): $9,400 vs. Panthers
Adams is playing like a man possessed this year. His 33.2% target share is the highest in the NFL this year by a whopping 4.2%, per Sports Info Solutions. Save for his Week 2 game in which he was injured and left early, Adams has been targeted nine times or more in his other 10 contests played.

Remarkably, he’s riding an eight-game touchdown streak with three multi-touchdown efforts during his heater. He’s also bested 100 receiving yards in three of his last four games. Adams is a must-play in cash games and the top receiving option in GPPs, too.

Stefon Diggs (WR – BUF): $7,900 at Broncos
If you clicked on the link to the Sports Info Solutions leaderboard for target share, you might have noticed the player in second behind Adams with a target share of 29.0% is Diggs. He and Allen have developed chemistry instantly, and Diggs is balling out in his first season with the Bills.

For the season, Diggs ranks second in targets (134), first in receptions (100), second in receptions per game (7.7), fourth in receiving yards per game (89.8), and has hauled in five touchdown grabs. The former Viking has posted back-to-back 10-reception games and three in his last four. He’s also totaled at least 92 receiving yards in five of his last six games. He’s on fire and clicking on all cylinders with Allen at the moment. Like the aforementioned Adams, he’s a must-play in cash games and a strong play in GPPs as well.

Upper-Mid Tier Play

Mike Davis (RB – CAR): $6,500
The running back pool on this two-game slate isn’t particularly exciting. Davis’ opposition, Aaron Jones certainly has a high ceiling. However, Jones flubbed a smash spot last week, frequently cedes touchdowns to Rodgers and the passing attack, and also is hindered by sharing backfield work with Jamaal Williams. Jones is certainly a defensible play in all game types, but I’d much prefer spin down $800 to Davis.

Davis is a game-script proof back thanks to his receiving prowess and abilities as a ball carrier. Speaking to his receiving usage, he’s caught three or more passes in four of his last five games and is averaging 4.4 receptions and 28.5 receiving yards per game this season. His receiving ability could be especially useful in this matchup in particular.

Green Bay’s yielded the ninth-most receptions (74), most receiving yards (660), and is tied for the second-most receiving touchdowns (five) coughed up to backs on the season. They’re no great shakes defending them on the ground, either, ceding 4.50 yards per carry to backs this season, per Pro-Football-Reference.

Favorite GPP Value Play

Isaiah McKenzie (WR – BUF): $3,000 at Broncos
In order to jam Adams, Diggs, either of their stud quarterbacks and the aforementioned Davis onto the same roster, you’ll need to find some value plays. Additionally, utilizing one who’s on a small percentage of rosters could be a differentiator in GPPs if they’re able to contribute some fantasy points.

On a normal slate, McKenzie fits the profile of a showdown contest option that doesn’t offer enough juice for a standard contest lineup. However, two-game slates aren’t a normal slate, and the value he provides in salary relief to roster the top studs can’t be overstated.

Of course, there are other minimum salary players, too, but McKenzie offers some touchdown potential most of his minimum salary peers lack. The jitterbug receiver is way down the pecking order strictly as a receiver and will be down even further if John Brown, who was activated from Injured Reserve, is back this week.

McKenzie isn’t just used as a traditional wideout, though. He’s a gadget player who the Bills will give carries to on jet sweeps, use as window dressing to setup plays to others, and he even has a touchdown pass to Allen on a trick play on his ledger this season. His shiftiness and unique usage have helped him earn reps in scoring territory, and he’s rewarded offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and the Bills for that usage with three receiving touchdowns and the previously noted passing touchdown this year.

The Bills are six-point favorites in a game with an over/under total of 49.5 points, per the consensus line at BettingPros. A little quick and dirty math reveals that leaves the Bills with an implied total of 27.75 points. If things go according to the betting lines, there are touchdowns to be had for Bills players, and McKenzie has the potential to reach pay dirt.
