Early Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 14 (2020 Fantasy Football)

Early Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 14 (2020 Fantasy Football)

Welcome in, folks! We’ve made it through the bulk of Week 13 action, and it’s that most wonderful time of the evening once again. Sunday night gives fantasy owners time to reflect on the week’s triumphs or losses and take stock of their roster heading into the new week. It’s a time for reflection and a time to assess potential waiver wire options. Each week, I’ll be highlighting a handful of low-rostered options you should consider when making waiver wire claims. Each player’s upcoming three-game schedule will be noted, including strength of matchup. This is particularly helpful if you need a streaming option or a temporary replacement to get you through the tough times.

We’re headed into the first week of the fantasy playoffs for most leagues, and if you’re reading this, chances are you’ve secured a postseason berth. Well done! For those who play in leagues that go to Week 17 or are just looking to run the table in the consolation bracket, we’ve got you covered. This week’s options are pretty bare, but we can still offer at least one back, receiver, and quarterback as well as a pair of tight ends and defenses to help you fill in the gaps for Week 14.

Best of luck in all of your leagues moving forward! If you’ve got any questions about the week’s waiver wire options or anything fantasy football, hit me up on Twitter @ZaktheMonster.

Note: Most players are rostered in 30% or less of Yahoo leagues

Wide Receiver

Keke Coutee (HOU): 26% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
@CHI @IND CIN

__________

Coutee went for a game-high and career-high 141 yards, hauling in eight of his nine targets in the Texans’ Week 13 loss. Brandin Cooks went down hard in this one and was forced out of action for a spell, though he was ultimately cleared to re-enter the game. He has a history of concussions, so his health is worth monitoring this week. With Will Fuller suspended for the rest of the season and Houston lacking playmakers in the receiving corps, Coutee should continue to see an increased workload for the rest of the season. He’s a priority pickup for those in need of WR help for the fantasy playoffs.

For those in much deeper leagues, Chad Hansen went 5/101 on seven targets and can be added as a desperation dart throw.

Running Back

Ty Johnson (NYJ): 1% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
@SEA @LAR CLE

__________

Frank Gore was knocked out of the Jets’ Week 13 matchup with the Raiders on his first carry of the game due to a concussion. That left Johnson and Josh Adams (a worthy pickup in deeper leagues) to pick up the slack, and it was the former who led the way. He went off for 104 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries and tacked on 13 receiving yards on two receptions. The Jets’ backfield continues to deal with injuries, and if Gore is unable to go in Week 14, Johnson could make an interesting flex for the first week of the fantasy playoffs.

Quarterback

Jalen Hurts (PHI): 2% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
NO @ARI @DAL

__________

Hurts stepped in for the struggling Carson Wentz in the third quarter of Philly’s Week 13 tilt with Green Bay, and he had a solid showing. Hurts made it happen through the air and with his legs, and if he indeed replaces Wentz as the Eagles’ starter moving forward, he’s worth a play in the fantasy postseason for those in need of help at quarterback – a position that is surprisingly thin on the waiver wire.

Mitchell Trubisky (CHI): 13% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
HOU @MIN @JAX

__________

Trubisky has been downright bad in his two recent starts, though that doesn’t matter much for fantasy purposes. He posted a respectable line against Green Bay, and though he had a letdown against Detroit, he has a favorable fantasy playoff schedule that includes Houston, Minnesota, and Jacksonville. As long as he continues to start, he can be a serviceable option for fantasy managers, garbage time or not.

D/ST

Tennessee Titans: 32% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
@JAX DET @GB

__________

The Titans’ defense just got roasted by Baker Mayfield, but a trip to Jacksonville in an important divisional tilt offers a huge bounce-back opportunity in Week 14. Follow that up with a home game against Detroit, and you’ve got a quality streamer for the fantasy playoffs. Tennessee D/ST is just over 30% rostered in Yahoo leagues.

Carolina Panthers: 5% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
DEN @GB @WAS

__________

Prior to the Week 13 bye, Carolina came up huge in two straight contests. This unit gets a chance for another big day against Denver in Week 14. The Broncos have been the second-best matchup for opposing D/STs this season, and Carolina is almost universally available on the waiver wire.

Tight End

Jordan Reed (SF): 25% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
WAS @DAL @ARI

__________

The tight end landscape is barren, and if you’re in need of one for the fantasy playoffs, Reed is available in three out of four Yahoo leagues right now. He’s drawn six targets in each of his last two games prior to Week 13.

Dalton Schultz (DAL): 19% rostered

WEEK 14 WEEK 15 WEEK 16
@CIN SF PHI

__________

Cincinnati has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season, and if you need a streaming option at the position for the first week of the fantasy postseason, you’re in luck. Schultz is available in more than 80% of Yahoo leagues, and he faces the lowly Bengals defense in Week 14. Add where needed.
