Monkey Knife Fight Advice: Week 13 (2020 Fantasy Football)

Welcome to Monkey Knife Fight. Monkey Knife Fight is one of the more intriguing entrants in the DFS arena. Instead of the traditional salary cap based contests, Monkey Knife Fight allows DFS players to put their fantasy football knowledge and predictive powers to the test.

They offer fantasy point and stat based contests. Perhaps the most appealing of all of their offerings is the ‘More or Less’ contests. In these contests, you can choose whether a player will fall above or below totals for a preset combination of two to 10 players. Your win probability obviously goes down with the more players you add, but you receive an increased payout multiplier in exchange.

Since Monkey Knife Fight’s fantasy point and stat-based totals are dynamic, meaning the total, total type, and pairings change throughout the week, it is important to search for favorable and advantageous total pairings to exploit on a daily basis. Ideally, when choosing a total pairing you want to feel extremely confident on one of the totals, and feel strongly enough about the other total to proceed. This week we will take a look at two of the ‘More’ options that stood out the most for Week 13. Note that these are not locked in pairings, and may no longer be offered by the time you log in to make your picks.

Brandin Cooks (WR – HOU): 67.5 receiving yards

Brandin Cooks is set to explode for the Houston Texans. With Will Fuller suspended for the rest of the season, Cooks is now locked in as Deshaun Watson‘s number one target. While Randall Cobb and Kenny Stills will also see their roles expanded, it is Cooks who will receive a number one receiver’s target share.

Cooks was already rolling before Fuller got popped for PED’s, recording 83 or more receiving yards in three of his last four contests. This line for Cooks looks like one of the best on the board at MonkeyKnifeFight. Set where it is due to Cooks averaging just 65.4 receiving yards per game on the season, Fuller averaged 73 receiving yards per contest in the aforementioned four game stretch.

Watson knows that Cooks is the best receiver he has left and the Texans as an organization have every reason to feed Cooks as much as they can. Houston will have to make a decision on whether or not to use the out in his contract this offseason. Cooks will likely be clamoring for an extension or a reworked deal with more guarantees, so ascertaining how well he can perform as the true number one will be key in their decision making.

Cooks is slated to spend most of his time lined up against sophomore cornerback Rock Ya-Sin. Ya-Sin has surrendered an unsightly 68.6 completion percentage against on the season, making the Cooks number all the more appealing. He has allowed an average of 9.4 yards per target, giving Cooks the right matchup to get loose for more than one long gain. Click ‘More’ on Cooks for Week 13.

Pick: More

Michael Pittman Jr. (WR – IND): 4.5 receptions

Michael Pittman Jr. at 4.5 receptions is a curious number at MonkeyKnifeFight. Yes, it is true that he has seven or more targets in three of his last four contests, but he has seen fewer than five receptions in all but one game this season. He has averaged just 3.75 receptions over his last four contests, buoyed by a seven reception effort against the Tennessee Titans in Week 10.

Houston will be without top corner Bradley Roby in Week 13, which means Pittman will spend the bulk of his snaps lined up against replacement level cornerback Phillip Gaines. Phillip Gaines has played more than 90 percent of the snaps just twice all season. In those two starts, he allowed three of eight targets to be hauled in for 20 yards versus the Jaguars, and five of eight targets for 61 yards and a touchdown versus the Packers.

He has been a weak link in his limited snaps and has allowed four touchdowns on the season, including being burned for 51 yards and a touchdown on just three routes against in Week 11. Gaines will likely be targeted by Philip Rivers, giving Pittman the opportunity to hit the more in Week 13.

Gaines has allowed a 60 percent completion percentage against for a whopping 11 yards per target. Pittman should see seven to 10 targets against the Texans, the question is how efficient he can be with those looks. While there are strong cases for both sides when in doubt, play the matchup.
