Week 13 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2020 Fantasy Football)

Week 13 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2020 Fantasy Football)

With Week 12 coming to an exciting conclusion on Monday Night Football, fantasy football managers have quickly set their sights on improving their rosters ahead of Week 13. With waivers set to run tonight in most leagues (some are delayed due to the Baltimore and Pittsburgh game being moved to Wednesday), we will jump right into some of the top waiver wire adds for those of you that are lucky enough to play in IDP leagues. You truly don’t know what you are missing until you try it. Let’s dig in.

Linebacker

A.J. Klein (LB – BUF): 4% rostered on Yahoo!
A.J. Klein has been on an absolute monstrous tear lately. Since Matt Milano was placed on injured reserve, Klein has gone full beast mode, racking up 4.5 sacks in three games, as an inside linebacker. He has totaled 10 solo tackles twice and is playing at an LB1 level. He was excellent in Week 12, racking up 10 solos, four assists, three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and one pass defended. He is a must-start, and thus a must-add as long as Milano, who is out indefinitely, is sidelined. If your team needs to make a final push to make the playoffs, Klein is the type of impact IDP addition that can put you over the top.

Tyrell Adams (LB – HOU): 18% rostered on Yahoo!
Tyrell Adams somehow fell down to the 18 percent mark after a Week 11 performance that saw him total a replacement level four solos and two assists. Adams has been an excellent IDP asset (especially for someone who came of the wire) since Bernardrick McKinney went down for the season. As mentioned, he did have a down Week 11 but recorded at least five solos in each of his other starts. He had his best week yet in Week 12, racking up 14 solos, three assists, two forced fumbles, and one pass defended against the Detroit Lions. Playing on the national stage means that he has also entered the national consciousness, so if you happen to find yourself in one of the leagues where he was inexplicably dropped, add him now, even if it is just to block your rivals. Adams is a weekly LB2 option with proven LB1 upside. Prepare your bids accordingly.

Troy Reeder (LB – LAR): 1% rostered on Yahoo!
As expected, Troy Reeder popped off again with Micah Kiser sidelined. Kiser is out at least two more weeks, which makes Reeder a must-have IDP asset. He was elite in Week 12, recording 12 solos, three assists, and one tackle for loss. Reeder is a better IDP asset than real-life contributor due to his weakness in coverage, so he will go back to close to zero defensive snaps when Kiser returns. While the hope is Kiser returns by Week 15, nothing is set in stone yet, which means Reeder should be starting for the bulk of the remainder of the fantasy season. Remember, Reeder went off for eight solos, three assists, three sacks, two tackles for loss, and three QB hits the last time he started for Kiser, so massive outbursts like this are to be expected. Add him as an LB2 with proven LB1 upside.

Cole Holcomb (LB – WAS): 1% rostered on Yahoo!
Cole Holcomb jumped back up to 83 percent of the snaps in Week 12, racking up six solos, four assists, 0.5 sacks, one tackle for loss, and one QB hit. He has been excellent since he moved past Kevin Pierre-Louis on the depth chart and has produced at an LB3 level. Holcomb is likely to stick as a starter due to his plus ability in coverage, so there should be no worry about KPL. Holcomb is not as prolific in the solo tackle department as one would like, but is a sturdy asset fantasy managers can turn to in the final bye week of the season. Keep him stashed in deeper leagues as, unlike someone like Nicholas Morrow from Las Vegas, Holcomb appears locked into a role that calls for him to see 80 percent or more of the snaps on a weekly basis. Add him where needed.

Ja’Whaun Bentley (LB – NE): 1% rostered on Yahoo!
Bentley continues to produce but continues to be disrespected by IDP managers. Bentley was strong again in Week 12 recording six solos and seven assists. He now has five or more solos in three of his last five contests. He has proven to be more of an LB3 option now that the byes are all but over (two teams in Week 13) but is a solid asset who shows up in plus matchups. He may not have the LB1 upside others boast but seems to have an LB3 floor. Add him wherever needed.

Defensive Back

Vonn Bell (S – CIN): 6% rostered on Yahoo!
Vonn Bell was excellent again in Week 12, racking up seven solos, three assists, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. That makes two DB1 outings in a row for Bell, who is making good on his upside. The former second round pick has been inconsistent this season, and for the better part of his career, but needs to be rostered in more than just six percent of leagues. He is an attractive DB2 option as long as he is playing at a high level and will revert back to DB3 status once he calms down. Ride with Bell while he is hot, and figure out the rest later. Add him wherever possible.

Johnathan Abram (S – LV): 15% rostered on Yahoo!
If I could write about Abram every week I would. Abram has been more inconsistent than one would like this season but has still been a solid DB2/DB3 option. He was strong again in Week 12, recording five solos, one assist, one interception, and one pass defended. Abram has now recorded five or more solos in four straight weeks and is inching closer to the DB1 level many had hoped he would produce at in his redshirt rookie season. He is rostered in 15 percent of Yahoo leagues already, but a good portion of that number is likely due to dynasty. Be sure to check your wire to ascertain if Abram is somehow still available.

Adrian Phillips (S – NE): 8% rostered on Yahoo!
Former All-Pro safety, Adrian Phillips continues to impress as a Patriot. He was strong again in Week 12, totaling five solos, one interception, and one pass defended. Phillips has been steady as an IDP asset and has recorded four or more solos in five of the last seven weeks, and in seven of his 11 contests overall. He is going to have his down weeks, but he is on more often than not. Phillips has a plus ‘revenge game’ matchup in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have allowed the 13th most fantasy points to the safety position, giving Phillips DB2 upside in a DB3 shell. Add Phillips where needed as a steady DB3 level contributor.

Donovan Wilson (S – DAL): 1% rostered on Yahoo!
Wilson was strong again in Week 12 and needs to be added where available. He saw his highest solo count of the season against Washington, recording nine solo tackles and one assist. He has been terribly inconsistent since forcing his way onto the IDP radar, but most of his down weeks have come when he has dipped below 80 percent of the snaps, something that has happened just once in the last four weeks. Wilson has a plus matchup against what could be a severely depleted Ravens team on tap for Week 13, a matchup that will be happening even if Wednesday afternoon football between the Steelers and the Ravens is postponed. Add Wilson where needed as a bye week filler or as bench depth. He continues to produce and will be someone to turn to if injuries strike elsewhere on your roster.

Defensive Line

Randy Gregory (DE – DAL): 0% rostered on Yahoo!
Don’t look now, but Randy Gregory is back. Gregory showed exactly why he continues to get chance and chance in the NFL, recording three solo tackles, two sacks, and two tackles for loss in Week 12. He took full advantage of the plus matchup and has another one on tap for Week 13 against the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore has relinquished the 11th most fantasy points to the defensive end position and could gift another strong performance to Gregory. Gregory was dropped in many leagues after failing to notch a sack in his first four contests back with the Cowboys, but adding him was always more of a long-term play. He appears to be rounding back into form and football shape and is someone to plug into your lineup as a DL3 with DL1 upside in plus matchups.

Chase Young (DE – WAS): 17% rostered on Yahoo!
Young got back on the sack sheet in Week 12, recording two solos, one sack, and two tackles for loss against the Dallas Cowboys. He now has two sacks in the last four weeks and may be ready to make good on the all-world promise he boasts with his combination of tools, ability, and raw talent. Young is going to be a DL1 mainstay eventually but just has not had the same impact following the groin injury he suffered in Week 3. However, he is more than capable as a DL2/DL3 and should be rostered even if it is just as bench depth. The fact that he has fallen below the 19 percent rostered threshold to make this column is not surprising based on his recent play, but Young has already proven that he can be a dominant force in the NFL. Add Young wherever possible, even if it is just to block your rival managers.

Chase Winovich (DE – NE): 9% rostered on Yahoo!
Winovich was strong again Week 12, recording five solos, one sack, and one tackle for loss. He has not been a sack artist, this was his first since Week 4, but is a defensive end with a rare motor that has allowed him to record five or more solo tackles in two of the last three weeks. Sacks are hard to project, making defensive linemen with weekly tackle upside all the more valuable in IDP leagues. He should already be rostered in most competitive leagues but made his way back to the wire in some spots after a Week 11 dud against Houston. Check your wire to make sure he is not somehow available in your league, and add him where possible.

Quinnen Williams (DT – NYJ): 4% rostered on Yahoo!
Williams was strong again in Week 12, racking up four solos, three assists, 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, two passes defended, and three QB hits. He now has 2.5 sacks across his last four contests and seems to finally be inching closer to becoming the dominant force he was drafted with visions of. Williams is an obvious must roster in DT leagues but has worked his way into weekly DL consideration as a DL3. Start Wiliams with confidence if you got him, if you don’t, deep-league managers should make the add and plug him in going forward. He can be counted as a DL2 option for a great Week 13 matchup against a Las Vegas Raiders team surrendering the second most fantasy points to the defensive tackle position.
