DraftKings DFS NBA Strategy: Wednesday (1/13)

DraftKings DFS NBA Strategy: Wednesday (1/13)

NBA DFS has always been crazy with scratches and injuries, but this is nuts with the COVID stuff. I had three minimum priced guys in my primary lineup yesterday, and that shows you just how wild things are right now. It certainly tests us as DFS managers, though, and the ones who keep a close eye are the ones who will be successful. That’s why I’m here because I want to help you guys make some dough!. With that in mind, let’s get into this Wednesday slate!

Please note that the Utah Jazz-Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics-Orlando Magic matchups have been postponed.

Value Plays: Point Guard

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Luka Doncic (DAL) at CHA $10,800 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low
Dennis Schroder (LAL) at OKC $6,200 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Delon Wright (DET) vs. MIL $4,800 ⭐⭐⭐ High

  • Doncic is one of the best plays on the board, and we’ll discuss that in the studs section.
  • Something tells me that either LeBron James or Anthony Davis will rest here. If that’s the case, Schroder is an excellent option.
  • Wright has played at least 33 minutes in back-to-back games. As long as he does that again, he should be a $6,000 player.

Shooting Guard

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Devin Booker (PHO) vs. ATL $8,300 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low
Eric Bledsoe (NOR) at LAC $5,800 ⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Luguentz Dort (OKC) vs. LAL $4,000 ⭐⭐⭐ High

  • Booker has dropped at least 40 DK points in back-to-back games and that should continue against a 27th-ranked Hawks defense.
  • Bledsoe is too good of a player to be this cheap, and he appears to be turning things around. In fact, he’s averaging 32 DraftKings points per game across his last four fixtures.
  • Dort is a defensive stud and it seems likely that he’ll play 30-plus minutes to try to slow down this strong Lakers offense.

Small Forward

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Caris LeVert (BKN) at NYK $8,000 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low
Harrison Barnes (SAC) vs. POR $6,700 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Mikal Bridges (PHO) vs. ATL $5,700 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium

  • With Kyrie Irving already out and Kevin Durant seeming likely to sit in the second half of a B2B, LeVert should run the show for the Nets.
  • Barnes has quietly had a great year for the Kings, averaging 33 DraftKings points per game.
  • Bridges has been too good to be sitting below $6,000. Not only is he averaging over 28 DK points per game, but he is also in a fantastic matchup.

Power Forward

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) at DET $10,600 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low
Robert Covington (POR) at SAC $5,000 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium
James Johnson (DAL) at CHA $3,900 ⭐⭐⭐ High

  • Giannis is one of the best plays out there, and he’ll obviously be in the studs section.
  • It’s just weird to see Covington this cheap. He’ll eventually see a price increase, and we’ll keep using him until then despite his struggles.
  • Johnson could play 25 minutes with half of the Mavericks roster dealing with COVID protocols.

Center

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Jarrett Allen (BKN) at NYK $6,700 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Mitchell Robinson (NYK) vs. BKN $5,800 ⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Willie Cauley-Stein (DAL) at CHA $4,100 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ High

  • Allen is averaging nearly 40 fantasy points per game since taking over starting center duties.
  • Robinson can be a $7,000 player if he continues to play 35 minutes each night.
  • WCS also benefits from Dallas missing so many players due to COVID protocols.

5 Studs Worth Their Salary

  • Luka Doncic (DAL) $10,800: Doncic got off to a slow start, but he’s an easy pick with Dallas missing Josh Richardson, Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, and Jalen Brunson. We’re already talking about a dude who’s scored at least 56 DK points in four-straight, and that’s likely his floor here with so much usage headed his way.
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) $10,600: Giannis is in the same boat as Doncic. He’s scored at least 57 DK points in six of 10 games this season and is always worth it no matter the price.
  • Damian Lillard (POR) $9,500: Lillard is averaging nearly 50 DK points per game since the opener, and he should be able to duplicate that against a Kings team that surrenders the most fantasy points to opposing point guards.
  • Trae Young (ATL) $8,900: It’s crazy to see Young’s price below $9,000. He dropped 45 DK points across just 25 minutes in his last game, and he should never be this cheap.
  • De’Aaron Fox (SAC) $7,400: This is another price that’s way too cheap. Fox is an $8,500 player when he’s right and an injury has limited him recently. The good news is that he’s over that now, and he should thrive against a 25th-ranked Portland defense.

5 Notable Players to Fade

  • Kevin Durant (BKN) $9,400: With this being the second half of a back-to-back set, we anticipate KD sitting. That obviously makes him impossible to use, and we don’t necessarily like him against one of the best defenses in the NBA, either.
  • Anthony Davis (LAL) $9,000: The same goes for AD. We expect him to sit in the second half of this B2B. With that said, his price is actually at a decent number, and he’s in play if he does end up playing.
  • Kristaps Porzingis (DAL) $8,400: This marks KP’s first game back! While that’s exciting, one has to believe he’ll be limited, and it’s always tough for a guy to play his first game in a year.
  • Jerami Grant (DET) $7,900: How weird is it to see Grant at this price? While he’s earned it, I just can’t pay it, especially facing an elite Milwaukee defense in a game that has blowout written all over it.
  • John Collins (ATL) $7,000: Collins has had a very disappointing season, and he’s averaging just 31 fantasy points per game. That’s even more concerning against a top-five Suns defense.
