FanDuel DFS NHL Strategy Advice: Thursday (2/18)

As we roll through February, we have another exciting nine-game Thursday slate to watch. Can the Senators continue their strong play against the Leafs? Can the Rangers get right with Panarin back? It is early in the season, but it can get away from teams quickly in a shortened year.

Center

Jaret Anderson-Dolan (LAK): $3,200 at ARI
This is more of a price play than anything else. Anderson-Dolan first cracked the Kings’ lineup on February 5th. In the five games that he has played since, he has five points, including consecutive multi-point games. The former second-round pick plays between Carl Grundstrom and Trevor Moore, and he is getting time on the second power-play unit. For the price, I will take a shot here. Granted, Darcy Kuemper and the Coyotes are quite stingy.

Wing

Evgenii Dadonov (OTT): $5,200 at TOR
Evgenii Dadonov scored 25 goals last year in a shortened season. That’s why it was so surprising when he only had one goal through 12 games this season. Sometimes, it just takes a little time to get used to new surroundings. Dadonov has ripped home five goals in his last six games, and he looks more like the player Ottawa thought they were getting this offseason. Dadonov will continue to skate on the second line and the first power-play unit. Tonight, the Senators will stay in Toronto for the second half of a back-to-back against the Maple Leafs. That means they will likely be facing third-string goaltender Michael Hutchinson.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau (NYI): $4,500 at PIT
J-G Pageau is on fire lately. He has goals in four consecutive games and six points over that span. He shot the puck 15 times in those games as well. The return of Anthony Beauvillier to Pageau’s left side will only help his production, too. Pageau will remain between Beauvillier and Oliver Wahlstrom tonight, and he’ll stick on the second power-play unit. The Islanders will head to Pittsburgh to take on a Penguins team that has conceded the third-most goals per game in the league this season.

Defense

Jake Muzzin (TOR): $4,400 vs. OTT
Jake Muzzin has been a big reason why the Maple Leafs appear improved on the back-end this season. He has been checking every box in fantasy and DFS, too. Muzzin has a goal and 10 assists for 11 points. He has added a +8 rating with 31 shots on goal and 31 blocks.  He can always be relied on to chip in with shots and blocks and a plus rating, which is a great thing to have from a player who also has 11 points in 17 games. He should continue to skate with his partner Justin Holl this evening. The Senators have done a great job against the Maple Leafs this week, but I suspect that we could see plenty of goals in this back-to-back scenario.

Goalie

Mackenzie Blackwood (NJD): $7,200 @ BOS
There are a lot of good options in goal tonight. Kaapo Kahkonen, John Gibson, and Semyon Varlamov all come to mind — but you have to pay up for them. Mackenzie Blackwood has been sparkling this season, with a 1.92 GAA and .948 save percentage. Of course, the Devils are in a tough matchup on the road against a very strong Bruins team, but I think New Jersey will hang in. The goal line in this game is 5.5 with juice on the under, so the odds suggest that this will be a low-scoring affair. I’ll take my shot with one of the cheapest goalies available, who also has the best save percentage amongst starters in the NHL.
