RealTime Sports Fantasy Baseball DFS Picks: Thursday, April 22nd

RealTime Sports Fantasy Baseball DFS Picks: Thursday, April 22nd

One of the best parts about playing fantasy baseball is that we aren’t limited to just season-long leagues anymore. Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) seemingly grows in popularity every year, and they’re a great way to enjoy the fun without committing to a six-month grind.

Below is are some of our staff’s favorite picks for the Thursday, April 22nd slate of RT Sports’ daily contests, which you can sign up for by clicking here. Additionally, the full rules and scoring system of the contests are further down in this article.

Pitchers

The advice in this article is specifically for the 6:10 PM EST slate tonight, which means there are only a few pitchers that I’m considering.

Walker Buehler (vs SD, $9600)
Perhaps this comes down to your DFS philosophy, but I always build my lineups around high-end starting pitchers. Buehler is the best option on tonight’s slate. In fact, he’s probably the only true “ace” who’s starting tonight. The Padres aren’t a good matchup by any means, but Buehler has the strikeout upside to offset some earned runs allowed.

Aaron Civale against the White Sox is the other pitcher I’m looking at, but if you want to save some money than Alex Cobb versus the Astros is my official sleeper for tonight. Cobb changed his pitch mix this year and so far it has led to the best strikeout rate of his career.

Hitters

Of course, we’ll be looking for low-end starting pitchers to attack while rounding out our team on offense. The Red Sox, Cubs, and Dodgers seemingly have the strongest matchups on the slate.

Xander Bogaerts (vs SEA, $4000)
He’s pricey, but not as pricey as some of the other star shortstops playing tonight. Additionally, Boston’s unofficial captain is just on a tear at the moment. He has homered in two straight games and currently leads the league with a .385 batting average. Hitting in the cozy confines of Fenway Park only adds to his value. A lot of Boston bats are expensive, but they’ve been as reliable of a team hitting stack as we could hope for this year.

Willson Contreras (vs NYM, $3600)
A quick look at Contreras’ Baseball Savant page suggests that he’s playing a bit above his head right now, but for DFS purposes we’ll gladly ride the hot streak. Chicago’s offense finally broke out in a big way on Tuesday night, which means I’m looking to get some of their right-handed bats in my lineup opposite Joey Lucchesi of the Mets. Catcher can always be a tough spot to get production from, but Contreras is worth paying up for tonight.

Chris Taylor (vs SD, $3700)
We’re going back to the well when it comes to Taylor, who once again has the platoon advantage opposite lefty Ryan Weathers. The Dodgers continue to give Taylor a prime spot in the batting order with Cody Bellinger sidelined, so it makes sense to get exposure to LA’s lineup (especially when that exposure is relatively cheap).

The Contest

RealTime Daily (“the Contest”) is a fantasy sports game by RealTime Fantasy Sports (“RTFS”). The Contest allows single day or several day (Thursday – Monday in the NFL) fantasy leagues. The Contest offers fantasy leagues with two styles of play (draft or salary cap), multiple price points, and varying league sizes. For all combinations of league sizes and price points the league prizes shall be clearly defined upfront prior to commencement of the league. The Contest is open to all players of all skill levels in the States where such contests are not prohibited. The rules for this Contest can be viewed in full by clicking here.
