MLB Daily Fantasy Primer: Friday (5/7)

We’re blessed with an absolutely massive Friday night slate this week. 14 games to be exact. This means there will be a lot of differentiation in contests. Luckily I think the starting pitcher decisions come rather easily, so I definitely want to begin roster construction with the arms listed below. From there, the goal will be to use cheap bats (preferably hitting high in the order) to help us get a few stud hitters into our lineups. Let’s dive in.

Friday’s Starting Pitcher Strategy

My core philosophy when it comes to playing DFS is to build my lineups around high-end starting pitchers. It’s the most important position to get right when it comes to daily fantasy, and it’s nearly impossible to overcome a situation where your SP falls short of expectations. Innings pitched and strikeouts are just worth too many points, which is why I only consider aces when they’re available on a given slate.

Cash Game Recommendations:

Jack Flaherty (STL) vs COL
There are only two arms that I’d consider using in cash games tonight, and I feel strongly about both of them. Flaherty hasn’t been dominant this season, but he’s been pitching very well since his Opening Day clunker. The best thing he has going for him, though, is this matchup. We always want to target the Rockies on the road, especially when they’re coming directly from Coors Field. The Cardinals are heavily favored to win this game, which gives Flaherty a good shot at improving to 6-0 in 2021.
