Sweating MNF on TopProp: Week 2 Edition

Sunday is in the books, and the sweats have begun at TopProp Fantasy Sports. The best way to challenge your friends (or rivals) and add a new layer of competition, TopProp adds another dimension to traditional season-long fantasy leagues. Let’s take a look at our plans for Week 2.

The Challenge

In our FantasyPros Insider league, there are some interesting contests we can create at TopProp Fantasy Sports. With Sunday’s action wrapped up, there are still a few sweats going on in our FantasyPros Insider league.

Week 2 in the FantasyPros Insiders league was full of ups and downs. Injuries rained on the parade once again, but that did not stop the explosive performances. There are a few interesting matchup options to choose from, but for this week, we will focus on teams with similar projected final scores and who both have players left to play on Monday night.

The Strategy

The bonus points don’t really factor much into the strategy this week, as the 0.5 bonus points essentially make it a win or lose proposition. The thought process behind initiating this particular challenge relies on Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers offense. There is no doubt that they are going to come into this contest angry after being embarrassed by Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. Detroit is, and will continue to be, a team to target with running backs, making Aaron Jones a premium play.

T.J. Hockenson is a top-tier play in his own right. He saw 10 targets in Week 1 and could see a similar amount of looks this week, with the Lions expected to be playing from behind. He is expected to have a big enough game that there was some trepidation over which team I should choose as my challenge team.

The crux of the strategy in choosing Fuentes’ Team over The A-Team is that Hockenson may not actually be as productive on his targets this week. We do not know if he will see 10 or more targets this week, and any reduction in volume will lower his floor. Hockenson saw a very healthy 20 percent target share in Week 1 but was second on the team behind D’Andre Swift at 22.4. Swift saw 11 targets, Hockenson 10, Jamaal Williams 9, and Quintez Cephus saw 7. All in all, seven different players saw three or more targets.

Secondary options like Cephus, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Kalif Raymond may see larger roles in Week 2, as we can be sure that Hockenson will be drawing extra attention all throughout the game. If this happens and Aaron Jones has as big of a game as he should have against the Lions, we should win our challenge. Jones was pitiful in Week 1 but is in a prime bounce-back spot against a Lions team that he averaged 118.5 rushing yards, one touchdown, three receptions, and 37 receiving yards against last season. This season, Detroit looks vulnerable again and allowed 131 rushing yards in Week 1. 104 came from sixth-round pick Elijah Mitchell

The Play: Expect Aaron Jones to exceed expectations and create contests with him on TopProp.

The Fade: Jared Goff features his talented tight end but spreads the ball around enough to cap T.J. Hockenson’s production.

The Prediction: Aaron Jones outscores T.J. Hockenson by at least 6.8 points – bringing Fuentes’ Team into the winner’s circle this Monday Night.
