Running Diary: Week 10 (2021 Fantasy Football)

(The Fantasy Football Running Diary is an ongoing series by Tim Metzler, in which Tim records and shares what is happening in the NFL every Sunday. It may also include updates on his personal life.)

Paying attention to everything that’s happening in the NFL is a challenge. You’re busy. Don’t sweat it. You keep doing you and let me do the work for you. This Running Diary will recap as many events as I can keep track of on Sunday, November 14th. Let’s do this!

12:05 – Kickoffs begin!

12:09Dak Prescott to CeeDee Lamb! First TD of the day. Dak was pedestrian last week. Let’s see if he can return to his top-tier form this week.

12:12 – Okay!! We’ve got some early action this week! Color me excited. In for Big Ben (out with COVID), Mason Rudolph has a TD to James Washington. Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield hits Austin Hooper for a short TD.

12:23 – Colts block a punt! Up on the Jags. Now, I don’t want you to interpret this as being a pro-DST and Kicker guy, but I was telling anyone who would listen to this off-season to grab the Colts defense. I feel vindicated today. Also, we should all stop playing in leagues with DST and Kickers.

12:25 – Missed this from before. Bills update: after only hitting two field goals in last week’s loss to the Jaguars, the Bills are up 10-0 against the Jets. Matt Breida‘s career is still breathing, and he has a TD from Josh Allen today.

12:30Mac Jones hits Hunter Henry for a TD to tie things up against the Browns. 7-7. The Rookie looks like the steal of the 2021 draft. As a Pats hater, it’s truly disgusting.

12:52 – Got distracted! I have some friends coming over this evening, so I’m prepping.

12:53Rhamondre Stevenson Targaryen put the Pats up on the Browns. 14-7. This Patriots backfield is possibly more stacked than this Browns backfield. Bad news for all of us who are sick of the Pats winning all the time.

12:55Ezekiel Elliott finds pay-dirt to add 7 to the Cowboys lead. 14-3 against the Falcons. Mattie Ice’s blood may be the only thing colder than this Falcons offense today.

12:57Jonathan Taylor has ten carries for 97 yards and a TD. Ladies and germs may I present the new top overall dynasty player.

12:58 – In other news, the Buccaneers are losing 13-0 against the Washington Football Team. Yikes. This is like watching Road Runner get smashed by an anvil. It’s just not supposed to happen.

1:15 – Half-time for the early games is approaching. So far, the Lions and Steelers feel like the most interesting matchup. Detroit is still in it, and Pittsburgh feels vulnerable right now.

1:16 – Mac Jones has 2 TDs today. The Rook is taking no prisoners.

1:17 – Zeke has 2 TDs. He hasn’t been flashy, but he’s been consistently good. Zeke is the best early first-round pick this season, aside from those who took a shot on Jonathan Taylor. At worst, he’s been the healthiest-McCaffrey, Kamara, Barkley, Henry, Chubb… all injury-riddled this year. Most value players were waiting in the back end of the 1st round, the 2nd round, and most of the 5th round. Cooper Kupp, CeeDee Lamb, Najee Harris, Joe Mixon, Austin Ekelar, Amari Cooper, Mark Andrews, Kyle Pitts. It makes you wonder why anyone takes a shot on injury-prone guys in the early first round.

1:23 – While I was typing that last thought, CeeDee Lamb caught another TD. America’s Team is killing the Falcons so severely that we may need to bring in PETA. This is ugly.

1:26 – STOP IT! While I was typing THAT last thought, the Cowboys blocked a kick and turned it into 8 points. Zeke hit the 2-point conversion. The only question left is: does either team put their starters on the field in the second half? I wouldn’t, but that’s probably why I’m not coaching in the NFL and instead am just a guy cutting apples right now.

1:30 – Josh Allen hits Stefan Diggs for a TD. Diggs has been okay this year, but not what he was hoped to be. With his TD today, he’s only got four total scores in 9 games played this season. Second-half surge? His managers hope so.

2:30 – Had to do some chores. They are quickly catching up here. Bills are annihilating the Jets. 38-3. Patriots over Browns, 38-7. Case Keenum is in for the struggling Baker Mayfield. Bad day in The Land. Cowboys and Falcons are already finished playing, but there’s time on the clock. You get it. 43-3. Garbage time started in the 3rd quarter. The Lions and the Steelers are locked at 16-16. It gets scarier than that because Jared Goff has only 40 yards passing on the day. 40. It’s the 4th quarter. Goodness. The other interesting matchup is the Titans vs. Saints. The Saints are mounting a comeback but are still down 12-23. Both teams need this win. Lastly, Brady’s Bucs are coming back against a suddenly super injured WFT. 23-19, WFT on top, but there’s no chance the Bucs lose. No chance.

2:41 – Are you a rebuilding dynasty manager? Trade deadlines have already passed in some leagues, so make these moves while you can. Here are some names to target to boost your squad for next year: Calvin Ridley, Michael Thomas, Travis Etienne, Cam Akers, JK Dobbins, Robert Woods, Allen Robinson. Most of these players are sitting on someone’s bench or IR spots, but all should have value next year. Try to sell any aging players that are having a decent season, but I’m also willing to sell later draft picks for them too. Darnell Mooney is also still rising and can be bought cheaper than he’ll cost next year. Make it happen, legends! I also think Saquon Barkley could be a target, but his managers may not be willing to sell.

2:57 – As usual, I was wrong. The Football Team scored a short rushing TD, with Antonio Gibson, who’s been falling short of early-season expectations, is having a solid day. Low YPC at 2.7 over 24 carries, but 2 TDs to bolster the bottom line. WFT over the Buccaneers 29-19.

2:59 – Side note to previous note: Vita Vea was just carted off the field. That hurts. The Bucs could be in trouble this season.

3:01 – The Lions are so close to upsetting the Steelers. They need to go about 25 yards in 45 seconds. They have two timeouts. Naturally, this will not happen. Overtime is looming.

3:03 – This is why the Bills won’t win the Super Bowl. Ever. They’re up 38-10, and they’ve kept their starters in the game. Give your bench players some reps and protect your big names. Diggs has 13 targets, and many of them have come in the second half. They lost to the Jaguars last week, pull this ridiculousness this week when the W is already in the bag. It screams one thing: Lack of foresight.

3:05 – Case in point: Isaiah McKenzie, Bills electrifying special teams/return man/WR/RB/Swiss army knife, is down with an injury. It should never have been out there at this point in the game. Do better, Buffalo.

3:09 – What did I say? Lions and Steelers are going to overtime. Boring is as boring does.

3:10 – The second round of games is starting. I have to go grocery shopping. I’ll catch you later.

4:25 – Well, well! Things got interesting! Dan Campbell’s tenure as the Lions head coach finally saw a non-losing day. Granted, it was a non-winning day, either. The Steelers and Lions ended in a tie 16-16. It feels like the Lions came out on top, though.

4:26 – The Packers and the Seahawks are both underwhelming us all. 3-0, Packers on top. The Panthers lead the Kyler Murray-less Cardinals. Christian McCaffrey has 90 rushing yards. Times are good. Eagles and Broncos are tied 10-10. The Vikings lead the Chargers 10-3, but I think the Vikings season is over. They lose by a one-score margin nearly every week. This is another one of those weeks. I’m calling it.

4:45 – Half-time is approaching. The Packers vs. Seahawks is a defensive showcase. The Eagles are getting hot, up 17-10 on the Broncos. The Vikings lead the Chargers 13-10. I’m about to make Buffalo chicken dip and a honey lemon arugula salad for dinner.

7:25 – My friend Bobby and his wife Kelly came over for dinner. The salad hit the spot, and my wife made chili to accompany the buffalo chicken dip. We’re all stuffed. I ran off for a moment to catch up on things.

7:26 – The Packers downed the Seahawks, shutting out Russell Wilson in his return from injured reserved. The Vikings, inexplicably, took down the Chargers. If the Chiefs win tonight, then they’ll take back control of the hyper-competitive AFC West. The Eagles de-hooved the Broncos, 30-13. Lastly, Cam Newton is back with the Panthers. They dismantled the Cardinals, 34-10. Arizona needs Kyler Murray back.

7:28 – We’re moving on to dessert and discussing life around the fireplace. We’ll tune in to the Chiefs game as much as we can. Mahomes has been so off lately, however, that my expectations are pretty low for this game.

10:30 – I was wrong. My expectations were ridiculous. The champ was back at it today, looking like his MVP self. 5 TDs for Mahomes. The Chiefs beat the Raiders, 41-14-some things to consider. Byron Pringle is a weapon that Andy Reid wants to utilize. Pick him up in deeper leagues. For the Raiders, Bryan Edwards finally made some plays. DeSean Jackson made a nice deep catch later in the game. He coughed it up on the same play, and the matchup was effectively sealed after that. He looks good. Consider both to be potential waiver adds, but only if you’re very desperate.

10:35 – Well, that’s it! Party’s over, and so is the Sunday lineup of games. If we learned anything, it’s that no team is safe, and it’s never too late to turn the season around. The same goes for fantasy football. Make moves, push through trades, let’s go! The playoffs are almost in sight. Catch you next week!
