As we continue to progress through the season, big names find themselves on their team’s injury reports. Stay up to date with the reports on these names below.
Baltimore Orioles
John Means (SP) – Elbow
On his personal Instagram account, John Means announced that he would be undergoing Tommy John surgery after multiple MRIs on his injured left elbow. Means looks to now miss the rest of 2022 and most of 2023.
Chicago Cubs
Clint Frazier (OF) – Appendicitis
The Cubs officially placed Frazier on the IL on Friday after undergoing an appendectomy. He will miss more than the minimum 10 days and does not have a timetable set for his return to the Cubs lineup.
Chicago White Sox
Eloy Jimenez (OF) – Hamstring
On Sunday, Jimenez was placed on the 10-day IL after being diagnosed with a right hamstring strain. This injury is expected to sideline him for 6-to-8 weeks. Adam Engel and Gavin Sheets will now see more playing time with Jimenez on the IL.
Luis Robert (OF) – Groin
After suffering a minor groin strain, Robert was removed from Thursday’s game against the Guardians. The White Sox have not placed Robert on the IL, but this is an injury worth monitoring. AJ Pollock was removed from the IL and should take over for Robert until he is ready to return to game action.
Cincinnati Reds
Mike Moustakas (1B/3B) – Bicep
Moustakas was placed on the 10-day IL with a right bicep strain. Although he was expected to return to the lineup last week, the Reds decided not to force him back and place him on the IL. Colin Moran will now see more playing time at third for the Reds.
Detroit Tigers
Matt Manning (SP) – Shoulder
Despite the optimism around this injury, the Tigers decided to place Manning on the IL as they erred on the side of caution with their young right-hander. Manning was able to throw a bullpen session on Saturday but is still without a timetable to return. Michael Pineda made his debut for the Tigers last week, and Tyler Alexander should continue to stay in the rotation until Manning is ready to return.
Victor Reyes (OF) – Quad
After finding his way into more playing time, Reyes was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday with a strained right quad. For now, he is set only to miss the minimum amount of time. The Tigers recalled Derek Hill from Triple-A to take his place on the roster.
Houston Astros
Jose Altuve (2B) – Hamstring
Altuve suffered a hamstring injury after pulling up lame trying to run out an infield ground ball in last Monday’s game. He was placed on the 10-day IL on Wednesday but was already seen taking ground balls on the field before the Astros played on Saturday. He looks to be ready to return on Friday after missing the minimum amount of time.
Kansas City Royals
Salvador Perez (C) – Hand
Salvy was hit by a pitch on his hand during Saturday’s game against the Mariners and was immediately removed. X-rays on his hand were negative, but the Royals will conduct more tests before determining the extent of his injury.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Andrew Heaney (SP) – Shoulder
After a solid start to the season, Heaney was surprisingly placed on the 10-day IL with left shoulder discomfort. There hasn’t been any other information released as of now. Tyler Anderson is set to take his spot in the rotation should Heaney not be able to go when his turn comes around.
Blake Treinen (SP) – Shoulder
Treinen was placed on the IL due to right shoulder discomfort. Before being placed on the injured list, Treinen hadn’t pitched in about a week after reporting that his shoulder was “barking” during his last outing. Daniel Hudson looks to be the one to step into the eighth inning role until he is ready to return.
Miami Marlins
Anthony Bender (SP) – Hip
The Marlins revealed that Bender is dealing with a right hip injury after not entering the game for the save opportunity in Saturday’s game against the Braves. He is said to be feeling better, but the Marlins are being cautious with him. Dylan Florois working his way back from his pre-season injury, and Cole Sulser could be the first man up for saves in the Marlins bullpen.
Minnesota Twins
Gary Sanchez (C) – Abdomen
Sanchez has been held out of the lineup the past few games for the Twins as he deals with an abdomen injury. MRI results have all come back clean, and he has looked to avoid a trip to the IL for now. Ryan Jeffers looks to get more playing time for the Twins going forward.
San Diego Padres
Luke Voit (1B/DH) – Bicep
Voit has been bothered by sore biceps in recent days. After the Padres decided to recall Luis Campusano from Triple-A, Voit being moved onto the IL looks to be the corresponding move. He does not have a timetable set for his return.
San Francisco Giants
Alex Cobb (SP) – Groin
Cobb was diagnosed with a Grade 1 groin strain after being removed from his last start against the Mets. Since being placed on the IL, Cobb resumed playing catch on Friday, and it is not clear when he will be ready to be activated.
Anthony DeSclafani (SP) – Ankle
DeSclafani was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday after dealing with right ankle inflammation. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. A timetable for his return should be clearer when the MRI results come back.
Texas Rangers
Jon Gray (SP) – Knee
Gray had been dealing with an MCL sprain when the Rangers decided to place him on the Injured List on Friday. Glenn Otto has taken his spot in the rotation, and the Rangers are optimistic that Gray shouldn’t miss more than one turn in the rotation.
