Dynasty Rookie Sleeper: Daniel Bellinger (2022 Fantasy Football)

Daniel Bellinger

This time of year, it’s important to identify value in all fantasy football formats. Whether you’re trading for assets in dynasty leagues or planning your fantasy football redraft strategy, finding players that provide value compared to their average draft position is a great way to build a championship roster.

One name that has continued to surface is Daniel Bellinger. Selected in the fourth round by the New York Giants, Bellinger is one of the few tight end options New York carries on its roster. As such, there is some early buzz that he could be a dynasty rookie draft sleeper.

Fantasy Impact: Bellinger, who the Giants took in the fourth round, will be expected to see playing time with the lack of depth New York has. He didn’t put up big time numbers at San Diego State, but he has shown flashes of potential in both blocking and receiving. For fantasy purposes, he will stay worthless in redraft leagues, but he is an interesting bench stash in dynasty leagues.

Daniel Bellinger 2022 Fantasy Football Ranking

Currently, Bellinger has an expert consensus dynasty rookie ranking of TE7 and No. 53 overall.

Derek Brown is higher than the consensus (No. 36 overall) on Bellinger and thinks he’s worth a late-round rookie draft flier:

Daniel Bellinger‘s collegiate 1.19 yards per route run won’t blow you away, but he did show promise in his final season, increasing it to 1.66 (per PFF). Bellinger walks into a situation where he’ll face off against journeymen Ricky Seals-Jones and Jordan Akins for immediate playing time. He surprised many, including me, at the combine with his 4.63 40-yard dash (86th percentile) and 82nd percentile burst score. As a former linebacker recruit that transitioned to tight end upon arriving at San Diego State, he’s still finding his way at the position. The athleticism, draft capital, and lack of an entrenched starter should allow him to stake a claim as the team’s short (and maybe long-term) answer at the position should he perform well.
