Jack Flaherty experiencing dead arm

St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told members of the media that starting pitcher Jack Flaherty is dealing with a “dead arm sensation.” He experienced tightness but no pain following Sunday’s outing. (Source: Jeff Jones on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Interestingly, although dead arm is a common symptom associated with the labrum tear that he suffered last season, Marmol says that the latest sensation isn’t in the same place as his previous injury. It’s been a tough couple of years for Flaherty, who has tossed just eight innings over three starts since making his 2022 debut on June 15. It seems quite likely that he’ll be back on the injured list before his next scheduled start.

Fantasy Impact: Sale is first set to throw a bullpen session in Boston on Monday. He made a rehab start on Saturday for the Florida Complex League Red Sox where he threw 36 pitches over 2.2 innings allowing three hits with six strikeouts. He’ll continue to slowly make progress within these rehab starts before he’ll be able to join the Red Sox rotation.

Gleyber Torres (ankle) out of lineup Monday

Fantasy Impact: Torres suffered an ankle sprain Sunday and will take a seat tonight. It is unknown how long he will be out, but the Yankees seem confident he will avoid a trip to the IL. Torres struggled this past week, hitting .185 with a .267 OBP, so maybe a few days off can also help him clear his head.

Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) expected to be activated this week

The Yankees anticipate activating Aroldis Chapman off the injured list this week. (Source: MLB.com)

Fantasy Impact: Chapman tossed a hitless inning with one strikeout on Sunday with Double-A Somerset in what was his second rehab appearance. He is expected to remain the Yankees closer when activated, though Clay Holmes is also expected to maintain a late-inning role out of the Yankees bullpen.
