Deshaun Watson to begin disciplinary hearing Tuesday

Fantasy Impact: Watson has been fighting a legal battle with over 20 women that have accused him of sexual harassment or misconduct, and the NFL will begin the hearing process soon to decide what Watson’s repercussions will be. He settled most of his cases, and he hasn’t been found guilty in the remaining ones yet, but that doesn’t matter for the NFL. It seems likely that he will receive a suspension of some kind, but to what degree will be up in the air and will be decided soon.
Dalton Schultz and Cowboys “far apart” on contract extension
According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Cowboys and TE Dalton Schultz “currently stand far apart” in regards to a contract extension. Gehlken writes that “talks would need to take on a new life to culminate in a contract.” (Source: Yahoo Sports)
Fantasy Impact: Shultz broke out last season to the tune of 78 receptions, 808 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns. Those numbers were good enough for Schultz to finish the 2021 season as the TE3 in standard, half PPR, and PPR formats. The Cowboys placed a franchise tag on Schultz earlier this offseason, but the fourth-year TE has made it clear that he wants a long-term contract. Schultz skipped the team’s voluntary OTAs due to frustrations about the contract negotiation process, but he showed up to June’s mandatory minicamp, a sign that he won’t hold out if a contract extension isn’t reached. Schultz is currently ranked as the TE6 according to FantasyPros ECR and is being drafted as a fifth-round pick according to Underdog ADP. The Cowboys’ offense has a sizable amount of vacated targets with Amari Cooper’s departure and Schultz could be the main beneficiary with defenses likely to key in on WR CeeDee Lamb.
Jimmy Garoppolo recovery ‘on schedule’, expected to begin throwing soon
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s recovery from offseason shoulder surgery is on schedule and he is expected to begin throwing within a few weeks. (Source: ESPN)
Fantasy Impact: It’s no secret that the 49ers are expected to trade away Garoppolo and hand the keys to the offense over to 2nd-year QB Trey Lance in 2022. However, Garoppolo’s offseason surgery has been reported to have frozen his trade market as teams don’t want to trade for a QB who is recovering from surgery and it’s unknown if the injury could have lingering effects. Once Garoppolo begins throwing and passes a physical it is likely that his trade market will pick up. The Seahawks and Panthers are two teams that have been rumored to be in the QB market, but it’s unlikely that the 49ers would trade Garoppolo within the division and send him to Seattle, making the Panthers the most likely destination for the veteran QB. Another dark horse trade partner could be the Cleveland Browns if Deshaun Watson is suspended for the 2022 season. The Browns have a playoff-caliber roster, so if they feel as if Garoppolo is a better option than Jacoby Brissett, then it’s possible they make a move for Garoppolo as a one-year rental. Garoppolo has functioned as a QB2 in fantasy when healthy, but his fantasy value for 2022 will be dependent on his recovery and where he’s playing.
