Dog days of summer are approaching. The season is starting to affect players, and the injuries continue to pile up. Here are the updates.

Boston Red Sox

Nathan Eovaldi (RHP) – Back

The Red Sox placed Eovaldi on the IL with lower back inflammation. During his last start, he was reportedly dealing with hip tightness. He will miss two turns in the rotation before Boston re-evaluates him.

Garrett Whitlock (RHP) – Hip

Initial thoughts were that Whitlock wouldn’t miss any time, but the Red Sox decided to place their starter on the IL. Alex Cora noticed him favoring one leg during his last start, which led to the placement.

Chicago Cubs

Marcus Stroman (RHP) – Shoulder

Stroman will be out for the foreseeable future as he deals with right shoulder inflammation. The move to the IL is retroactive to June 7th and will be re-evaluated.

Detroit Tigers

Casey Mize (RHP) – Elbow

In an attempt to make a return this season, Mize and the Tigers concluded that Tommy John surgery was the only option left to help with his elbow injury. Mize will miss the remainder of this season, and the majority of 2023 as he works his way back.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Walker Buehler (RHP) – Forearm

Buehler left his last outing on Saturday with discomfort in his throwing arm. After further tests, the Dodgers starter is set to miss the next six-to-eight weeks as he recovers from the injury.

Minnesota Twins

Royce Lewis (SS, OF) – Knee

After rehabbing himself back to playing shape, and making his major league debut this season, Lewis re-tore the same ACL he tore last season and now looks to miss the remainder of this season. He hopes to be ready for the start of 2023.

San Francisco Giants

Alex Cobb (RHP) – Neck

Cobb was moved to the IL as he was dealing with a hamstring injury that has lingered from the previous groin injury he suffered. Since his placement, he has resumed playing catch and will continue to be evaluated by the Giants.

Tampa Bay Rays

Andrew Kittredge (RHP) – Elbow 

After making a return from the IL, Kittredge was put back on the list and decided to undergo Tommy John surgery. The reliever is now set to miss 2022 and the majority of 2023.

Mike Zunino (C) – Shoulder

Zunino was placed on the 10-day IL as he deals with an unknown shoulder injury. His timetable to return is still unclear to this point.

Toronto Blue Jays

Danny Jansen (C) – Hand

The Jays officially placed Jansen on the IL last Tuesday as he deals with a broken hand. A more precise timetable will be established once they reach the 10-day mark.
