Rhamondre Stevenson receiving reps as third-down back

According to Henry McKenna of USA Today, New England Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson has been receiving practice reps as the team’s third-down back while RB James White remains on the PUP list. (Source: USA Today)

Fantasy Impact: Stevenson has become a popular sleeper RB among fantasy experts after an impressive rookie season where he finished as PFF’s 10th highest graded RB. In his rookie season, Stevenson was used as an early down rusher and received limited opportunities in the passing game even though he has demonstrated the ability to be a capable receiving threat. With RB James White starting camp on the PUP list and reportedly still walking with a noticeable limp, there’s a potential opening for a Patriot’s RB to grab ahold of a third-down role. Stevenson is expected to split early down carries with Damien Harris, but if he earns third down duties as well then he would offer stand-alone value and flex appeal, similar to how Kareem Hunt has contributed in Cleveland. In dynasty leagues, Stevenson is a buy-now candidate given the potential he has shown and the fact that Harris will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, potentially leaving Stevenson with an even larger role in 2023.

Jalen Hurts praised for improved accuracy, timing, and communication

Multiple Philadelphia Eagles players and coaches, including WR DeVonta Smith and HC Nick Sirianni have indicated that QB Jalen Hurts has shown significant growth in his second offseason as the team’s signal caller. Fantasy Impact: In his first season as the Eagles’ starting QB, Hurts was a reliable fantasy option and finished the season as a low-end QB1. However, Hurts’ real-life NFL value hasn’t matched his fantasy value, as he’s struggled as a passer at times while leading the most run-heavy offense in the league. The Eagles have done an excellent job of surrounding Hurts with blue-chip talent. Behind one of the best offensive lines in the league and A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert as his primary receiving options, Hurts will have every opportunity to run an explosive offense in 2022. The Eagles have two 2023 first-round picks, so if Hurts doesn’t live up to expectations, the team could look to draft his replacement in what is expected to be an excellent 2023 rookie QB class.

D.J. Moore building red-zone chemistry with Baker Mayfield

According to NFL.com’s Bridget Condon, Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore was on the receiving end of three Baker Mayfield touchdown passes during Thursday’s practice. (Source: NFL.com)

Fantasy Impact: Moore has been on the verge of fantasy stardom over the course of the past three seasons, but his lack of TDs has prevented him from jumping into WR1 territory. Moore has finished as a WR2 in three consecutive seasons, and although he has surpassed 1,100 receiving yards each year, he hasn’t scored more than four TDs in any season. Moore is a big target who has the skill set to produce in the red zone, but he has suffered from poor QB play throughout his career which has likely contributed to his lack of TDs. Moore’s early chemistry with Mayfield is a positive sign for a player who is among the most talented WRs in the league.

Daniel Jones showing ‘inconsistency’ in training camp

Fantasy Impact: Jones has had a very inconsistent career up to this point, and it seems that the QB, entering his 4th season, has not overcome those inconsistent tendencies. This may be the last chance for Jones to prove he belongs as a starting QB on an NFL roster, and a viable fantasy QB as well. His rushing upside is arguably his greatest fantasy asset, and with a new offense in place there is some hope that Jones could carry some fantasy relevance in 2022. Perhaps a bye-week stream option in most formats, Jones is only truly deserving of a roster spot in superflex leagues.
