Injury Roundup: Rafael Devers, Luis Robert, Julio Rodriguez (2022 Fantasy Baseball)

Jul 26, 2022

Crunch time for many teams on the fringe. Here are the updates you need to know to prepare you for your push.

Atlanta Braves

Adam Duvall (OF) – Wrist
Duval is now slated to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing wrist surgery shortly after Atlanta decided to place him on the IL with wrist soreness. After first diagnosing it with a sprain, it was revealed he had a torn tendon that required the procedure.

Boston Red Sox

Rafael Devers (3B) – Hamstring
Devers was placed on the IL with right hamstring inflammation. The news comes after it was revealed that he tweaked his hamstring during Friday’s game. The Red Sox decided to make the move quickly to ensure their third baseman gets the time needed.

J.D. Martinez (OF/DH) – Back
Although he has not been placed on the IL, Martinez has been held out of the lineup the last few games with lower back soreness. This is something worth monitoring due to his history with this ailment.

Chicago White Sox

Luis Robert (OF) – Head
The White Sox placed Robert on the IL after experiencing lightheadedness since July 15th. The move came after he was held out of the lineup for the third consecutive game. There isn’t a timetable for him to return.

Cincinnati Reds

Tyler Stephenson (C/1B) – Shoulder
Stephenson suffered a broken right clavicle after being hit by a foul ball. He does not have a timetable for a return, but he will likely miss a majority of the remainder of this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Justin Turner (3B) – Abdomen
Turner has been held out of the lineup for the Dodgers as he deals with abdomen soreness. While an IL stint is possible, the move hasn’t been made yet. He has been seen taking part in pregame activities and could return to the lineup in the next couple of days.

Miami Marlins

Garrett Cooper (1B/OF/DH) – Arm
Cooper was hit by a pitch during a pinch-hit appearance on Saturday and has been held out of the lineup since. There hasn’t been an indication of an IL stint yet, but it is something to monitor as the trade deadline approaches.

Max Meyer (SP) – Elbow
Meyer was removed from his last start as he was dealing with right elbow soreness. This is the second time this year that he has been shut down with an elbow injury, and one could assume the Marlins decided to hold him back the rest of the year to preserve their young pitcher.

Jorge Soler (OF) – Back
Soler returned to the IL while still dealing with the same back injury that landed him on it earlier this season. While still experiencing the soreness, Miami decided to give him the allotted time to heal properly.

San Diego Padres

MacKenzie Gore (SP) – Elbow
Gore was removed from his relief appearance on Monday after experiencing left elbow soreness. After jumping between the rotation and the bullpen, Gore’s workload could have something to do with the soreness, and the Padres could look to ease off of him for a bit to prepare themselves for a push later in the year.

San Francisco Giants

Evan Longoria (3B) – Hamstring
Longo is dealing with a Grade 1 lat strain and was placed on the IL by the Giants. He is expected to miss the next few weeks with this injury.

Seattle Mariners

Julio Rodriguez (OF) – Wrist
J-Rod hasn’t been placed on the IL, but he has not been able to return to the Mariners lineup since the start of the second half. He was a late scratch in the first game, and the Mariners have decided to be cautious with their young star. An IL stint is still possible.

St. Louis Cardinals

Steven Matz (SP) – Knee
Matz was placed on the IL with a left knee sprain he suffered on Saturday. As of right now, the Cardinals do not expect him to be ready when he is first available to return on August 9th.

Tampa Bay Rays

Kevin Kiermaier (OF) – Hip
Kiermaier has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing hip surgery to repair a torn labrum. He had been on the IL since July 10th with the injury and was not able to return from the injury.

Mike Zunino (C) – Shoulder
Like Kiermaier, Zunino’s season ended after undergoing thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. This comes after the Rays transferred him to the 60-day IL on July 15th.
