According to head coach Sean McVay, Cam Akers is being held out of practice while he deals with a “soft tissue” injury. (Source: Jourdan Rodrigue on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: The Rams are being cautious with the third-year back after he missed almost the entirety of the 2021 season with an Achilles injury. McVay stated Akers would not practice until he could participate fully in a team setting. While this is not a devastating development, it certainly is discouraging for fantasy managers currently drafting him at No. 28, expecting a bounce-back season. The Rams’ offense remains enticing, and Akers is still a Tier 2 running back in fantasy; it’s just prudent to keep an eye on his progress.
According to Sean McVay, Darrell Henderson Jr. is being held out of practice while dealing with a soft tissue injury. (Source: Jourdan Rodrigue on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: The announcement came in conjunction with the news that Cam Akers is also dealing with a soft tissue injury. Henderson played 12 games last season in Akers’ absence, rushing 149 times for 688 yards and five touchdowns. Jake Funk and rookie Kyren Williams line up in the depth chart behind them. Of the two, Williams is the preferred back in fantasy, though nothing should be decided based on this announcement.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Jimmie Ward suffered a “pretty bad hamstring injury” during Sunday’s training camp session. (Source: David Lombardi on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Ward’s status for Week 1 of the NFL season is now in question. The ninth-year pro will have less than a month to try to rehab and recover, or the 49ers will be without a vital piece of their defense. Ward finished the 2021 season with 77 tackles, six passes defended, and two interceptions.
The Cleveland Browns announced Monday that cornerback Denzel Ward has been activated from the active/physically unable to perform list. (Source: Cleveland Browns on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Ward has been nursing a foot injury from veteran minicamp and missed practice for the first 12 days of training camp. Ward is coming off his second Pro Bowl season where he nabbed three interceptions, including one for a touchdown, and broke up 10 passes. Ward signed a five-year extension for this off-season worth $100.5 million including $71.25 million guaranteed. Ward will lead the Browns cornerbacks, namely Greg Newsome II and Greedy Williams, as well as rookie third-round pick Martin Emerson, Jr who has been impressing so far in training camp.
