Elijah Moore establishing himself as Jets’ No. 1 WR
According to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, New York Jets’ WR Elijah Moore has firmly established himself as the team’s No. 1 WR through the first week of training camp. (Source: The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact: According to numerous reports, Moore has been one of if not the biggest star at the Jets’ training camp. Moore only appeared in 11 games as a rookie due to a quadricep injury and an appearance on the COVID-19 list, but he flashed huge upside prior to missing the last five weeks of the season. Between weeks 9 through 13, Moore produced like a WR1 in fantasy football as he averaged over 20 fantasy points per game in PPR formats during this five-game stretch. Moore missed the remainder of the season, but he appears to be picking up where he left of this offseason and may be primed for a true breakout sophomore campaign. Moore is currently ranked as the WR32 according to FantasyPros ECR.
Carson Wentz shows inconsistency in practice
According to Mike Kaye of ProFootballTalk, Carson Wentz and the other QBs for the Washington Commanders struggled during team drills in training camp. (Source: Mike Kaye, ProFootballNetwork)
Fantasy Impact: Kaye writes that Wentz struggled with accuracy during the team’s drills, mixing in big throws with bouts of missing receivers. However, Kaye does mention the adage that strong defenses tend to outperform offenses early in training camp. Wentz is new to the team and was missing WR Terry McLaurin for much of the offseason. While the prospect of Wentz in fantasy may seem unattractive, he has finished no worse than QB24 in his career with recent finishes of QB10 in 2019 and QB13 in 2021. He should be on the radar as a QB2 in superflex leagues with weapons like McLaurin and rookie WR Jahan Dotson at his disposal, and he’s only going on average as QB26.
Diontae Johnson’s hold-in trending in right direction
According to Brooke Pryor of ESPN, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan says the front office has been in touch with WR Diontae Johnson’s team and wants him to stay in Pittsburgh. (Source: Brooke Pryor on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Johnson finished last season as the WR12 in fantasy, made the Pro Bowl and cleared both 100 catches and 1,000 yards. Now, his next goal is a second contract. With the chaos that has been the 2022 NFL offseason WR market, Johnson is waiting for his turn to sign a big deal. The Steelers haven’t handed out a multi-year second contract to a WR since Antonio Brown, and the team already expressed disinterest in giving him $20 million or more a year, seemingly the new going price for a top-tier wideout. A lot can change quickly in the NFL, though, and Johnson’s dynasty managers should monitor the situation closely.
Kenny Golladay has ‘lack of chemistry’ with Jones
According to Mike Kaye of ProFootballNetwork, WR Kenny Golladay still has no connection with New York Giants QB Daniel Jones. (Source: Mike Kaye, ProFootballNetwork)
Fantasy Impact: Golladay was brought in to be Jones’ new weapon during the 2021 NFL offseason, but despite making WR1 money, Golladay was unable to deliver all season. He finished the year with no touchdowns and just 37 catches for 521 yards. Golladay looked like a high-level fantasy WR in Detroit alongside QB Matthew Stafford over a three-year stretch, but with Jones, there “clearly isn’t a connection.” It goes both ways, Golladay with drops and Jones with inaccuracy. Both players have their backs against the wall in New York in 2022 and could find themselves in new situations next season if things don’t improve. Golladay goes on average as the WR60 in PPR formats, according to FantasyPros, likely too low if he pans out but likely too high if he doesn’t.
